One site that will get you started is http://www.tunes.com/tunes-cgi2/tunes/artist_frame/25332/0/ . I am interested in receiving tips as to where I can find live dixieland in western Canada and northern U.S.A. I was once to the Victoria Dixieland Jazz Festival in Victoria, B.C. but havn't found much else without going to southern U.S.A. I play Bb Clarinet and Alto Sax and am always looking for opportunities to jam with others of similar musical interest."

At that time the members were Ward Kimball, Danny Alguire, George Probert, Frank Thomas, Dick Roberts, Don Kinch and Eddie Forrest. I don't know if the group is still together."

"I finally got "a round tuit"! But I guess it's better late than deceased. As you may surmise from my screen name, Jazz Photography is ONE of my bags. Another is the task of writing a history of the MANASSAS JAZZ FESTIVAL. For that little project, I need lots of inputs from musicians, groupies, & other knowledgeable folks, with vignettes, full-fledged stories, photos, etc--everything BUT programs. The MJF was a 24-year festival, which began when "jazz festival" was a largely unknown expression (i.e. a LONG time ago!). It ran from 1966 to 1989, the love child of JOHNSON "FAT CAT" McREE. The festival passed when Johnson passed, in January 1990. If you have any stories or comments, PLEASE e-mail me and "air them out"! Another of my "bags" is the JAZZ PHOTOGRAPHERS ASSOCIATION, which was hatched at the 1985 Manassas festival, between Bob Byler and myself. We contacted Ray Avery, and started spraying ideas around over the next few years, and in 1990 the JPA was born! We published a "Directory" a couple of years ago, which included over 7,000 musicians, identifying who had photographed them (from a list of over 400 photographers). It was well received by the jazz "research community", since it gave them the opportunity to select from more than a dozen of the "same old photos" everyone had seen for years. The Directory is constantly growing, and we would welcome one and all who have taken photos of jazz people to contact us: JPA, P. O. BOX 6575, NEW ORLEANS, LA 70174. Much to the chagrin of SOME photographers, I'm sure, this is NOT a "professional photographers group"--it's not even ABOUT the photographers; it's about the JAZZ MUSICIANS! Remember: MANASSAS JAZZ FESTIVAL & JAZZ PHOTOGRAPHERS ASSN! Red beans & rice-ingly yours, Gene Hyden"

We discovered for ourselves what a kickass band "Hotter Than Six" and what a great vocalist they have in Nina Ferro. We attended the the first gigs this year of the Zydeco bands. Man O Chevitz!! The crowds were unbelievable in their almost visceral response to them. We missed our old favorites, The Hot Frogs, and wish they will be back real soon in any incarnation at all. They were our first Trad band way back when they were playing a gig at the Knights of Columbus Hall in Canoga Park and well, you never forget your first do you? The Nightbloomers were again superbly goofy. Those members of the Hall's Angels they brought up on stage with them at one of their engagements were just simply outstanding. I saw members of the next band up staring IN AWE at the 12-year old pianist and at the other two 13 and 14-year-old musicians. Blue Street JB were at the heighth of their powers as well. "
