  • 1995 - The Supreme Court of Argentina orders the extradition of Erich Priebke, ex-German SS captain.
  • 1999 - The National Basketball Association launches NBA.com TV, a 24-hour TV network.
  • 1999 - Hong Kong International Theme Parks announces an agreement has been reached with the Walt Disney Company on building a Disneyland park in Hong Kong. Hong Kong Disneyland will be 126 hectares (299 acres) in size, built on Lantau Island. The park is scheduled to open in 2005.
  • 1999 - NBC airs the 100th episode of TV show 3rd Rock from the Sun.
  • 2000 - The first crew arrives at the International Space Station.
  • 2001 - The Glocal Forum, leading international organization in the field of city-to-city cooperation, is established by Ambassador Uri Savir.
  • 2001 - Microsoft and the US Department of Justice and nine US states reach a settlement in their antitrust case. Microsoft is to license Windows uniformly, and cannot make exclusive contracts that compel companies to use to not use certain competing software products.
  • 2001 - Buena Vista releases the film Monsters, Inc. to theaters.
  • 2004 - Death of H.H. Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan-al Nahyan, ruler of Abu Dhabi and President of the United Arab Emirates (born 1918).
  • 2004 - U.S. presidential election: U.S. President George W. Bush defeats Senator John Kerry. Republicans make gains in the House and Senate.
  • 2004 - Dutch film maker Theo van Gogh is assassinated in Amsterdam, Netherlands by Mohammed Bouyeri.
  • 2005 - The Spanish Congress of Deputies approves the admission to formality of the new Catalan Statute of Autonomy with the support of all the groups except the People's Party (PP), which the same day files an objection of unconstitutionality.
  • 2007 - Death of S. P. Thamilselvan, Sri Lankan Tamil political leader (born 1967), in an air raid.
  • 2010 - A series of bomb attacks take place in Iraq; 40 are killed in Baghdad.
  • 2014 - The Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) releases the final part of its Fifth Assessment Report, warning that the world faces "severe, pervasive and irreversible" damage from global emissions of CO2.
