  • 1993 - U.S. President Bill Clinton orders a cruise missile attack on Iraqi intelligence headquarters in the Al-Mansur District of Baghdad, in response to the attempted assassination of former U.S. President George H. W. Bush during his visit to Kuwait in mid-April.
  • 1995 - American space shuttle Atlantis blasts off from NASA's Kennedy Space Center in Florida. This is the 100th human space mission in American history.

  • 1999 - Death of Jorgos Papadopoulos, military ruler of Greece (born 1919).
  • 2001 - Death of Jack Lemmon at age 76 of complications from bladder cancer; actor, director (Morrie - Tuesdays with Morrie).
  • 2002 - Death of John Entwistle at age 57 from a heart attack induced by cocaine in Las Vegas, Nevada, USA; bassist (The Who).
  • 2003 - In Nashville, Tennessee, General Motors holds the Official Corvette 50th Anniversary Celebration, over two days. About 10,000 Corvettes and 18,000 people attend. Special cars on hand include the Tiger Shark, XP-880 Astro II, 1963 Monza SS, Astro I, 1969 aluminum Reynolds Corvette EXP 040, 1973 Aerovette, CERV III, CERV IV, C5-R #50 Le Mans race car, LT1 Spyder Concept, ASC Sting Ray III, and Corvette SS. Two raffle draws raise US$700,000 for the National Corvette Museum.
  • 2003 - The United States National "Do Not Call Registry" is formed to combat unwanted telemarketing calls and administered by the Federal Trade Commission, enrolling almost three-quarters of a million phone numbers on its first day.
  • 2004 - Death of George Patton IV, American general (born 1923).
  • 2005 - AMD files a broad antitrust complaint against Intel Corporation in U.S. Federal District Court, alleging abuse of monopoly powers and antitrust violations.

  • 2009 - In Assen, Netherlands, round 7 of the FIM MotoGP Championship is won by Valentino Rossi.
