  • 1976 - Harry Margolis, Robert Dunnett, and Ondrej Kojnok formally incorporate IMSAI Manufacturing Corporation.
  • 1998 - Italy issues an 800-lira postage stamp for Communications Day, showing a personal computer monitor.
  • 2001 - Apple Computer releases a new iMac computer to retail outlets. It features 64 MB memory, and CD-ROM drive. Price is US$799.
  • 2001 - Advanced Micro Devices releases the 1.1 GHz Duron processor. Price is US$103 in 1000-unit quantity.
  • 2003 - Sony announces the Clie PEG-TJ25 handheld computer. It features 200 MHz processor, Palm OS 5.2.1, Memory Stick Pro slot, 320x320 resolution screen, 16 MB RAM. Price is US$200.

Walt Disney Company history:

  • 1927 - Disney ships the Oswald the Lucky Rabbit film Neck 'n' Neck to Winkler Productions.
  • 1929 - The Mickey Mouse film Mickey's Choo-Choo is completed.
  • 1932 - The Silly Symphony film Bugs in Love is released to theaters.
  • 1960 - The Dixieland at Disneyland evening concert show is first held at Disneyland, at the Rivers of American in Fontierland.
  • 1961 - The NBC TV network airs the Walt Disney's Wonderful World of Color show, featuring The Horsemasters, part one.
  • 1966 - The National Association of Theatre Owners makes their first award presentation, naming Walt Disney "Showman of the World".
  • 1971 - At 10:00 AM, the Magic Kingdom park at Walt Disney World Resort opens in Orlando, Florida. Similar to Disneyland, six themed areas are Main Street, U.S.A; Adventureland; Fantasyland; Frontierland; Liberty Square; and Tomorrowland. Attendance on opening day is 10,422. First guests to enter the park are William Windsor Junior, wife Mary, and sons Jay and Lee. The day, a Friday, was chosen as the likely slowest day of the week and slowest time of the year for tourists in Florida. Organizers did not want a repeat of the mass crowds during the opening day of Disneyland. Cost of creating the theme park was US$400 million.
  • 1971 - The Walt Disney World Railroad attraction opens in the Magic Kingdom at Walt Disney World. It includes three locomotives: the Walter E. Disney (#1), the Lilly Belle (#2), and the Roger E. Broggie (#3).

Chevrolet Corvette history:

  • 1953 - St. Louis Corvette Assembly plant's Body and Paint shop begins producing bodies for Flint Assembly plant, finished in Du Pont's new #253-57758 Polo White paint formulation.
  • 1956 - Edward Cole assigns engineering staff to Zora Arkus-Duntov to construct four sports/racer test cars, the XP-64.
  • 1956 - The first 1957 production Corvette rolls off the assembly line.
  • 1987 - Chevrolet introduces the 1988 model Corvette.
  • 1996 - The first production 1997 model Corvette is completed.
  • 2000 - The 1967 L-88 Corvette that was raced to a 1/4-mile class record of 11.04 seconds in 1969 is bought by Glen Speilberg. The car is taken out of garage storage for the first time in 31 years, with 1851 original miles on the odometer.
  • 2005 - At the Road Atlanta raceway in Braselton, Georgia, the Petit le Mans race is held, round nine of the American Le Mans Series is held.
    • Finishing 1st in GT1 class and 3rd overall is the Corvette Racing #4 Corvette C6-R driven by Oliver Gavin, Jan Magnussen, and Olivier Beretta.
    • In 6th place in GT1 class and 12th overall, but not finishing the race, is the Corvette Racing #3 Corvette C6-R driven by Ron Fellows, Max Papis, and Johnny O'Connell.

  • 2016 - At the Road Atlanta raceway in Braselton, Georgia, USA, the Petit Le Mans race is held, round 12 of the IMSA WeatherTech Sportscar Championship series.
    • Finishing 6th in GT Le Mans class and 15th overall is the Corvette Racing #3 Corvette C7.R driven by Jan Magnussen, Mike Rockenfeller, and Antonio Garcia.
    • Finishing 7th in GT Le Mans class and 16th overall is the Corvette Racing #4 Corvette C7.R driven by Tommy Milner, Marcel Fassler, and Oliver Gavin.

World War II history:

  • 1934 - Adolf Hitler orders army to triple in size to 300,000 men, for the creation of an air force, and for expansion of the navy.
  • 1938 - British Prime Minister Neville Chamberlain returns to London, England, to a hero's welcome. Quote on the Munich Agreement: "This is the second time there has come back from Germany to Downing Street peace with honour. I believe it is peace for our time.".
  • 1938 - German forces occupy the Sudetenland, part of Czechoslovakia.
  • 1938 - Czechoslovakia yields to Polish demand for the Teschen area.
  • 1939 - German Führer der U-Boote Karl Dönitz asks submarine commander Gunther Prien if he would make an attack on the British Royal Navy at Scapa Flow. Prien immediately replies that he will.
  • 1939 - Polish naval commander surrenders.
  • 1939 - (evening) British planes drop leaflets over Berlin for the first time, telling of the private fortunes of the Nazi leaders.
  • 1941 - The U.S. Secretary of War requests that the U.S. National Academy of Sciences begin research on biological warfare.
  • 1943 - In Italy, the United States 5th Army enters Naples.
  • 1943 - British 10th Corps reaches Naples, Italy.
  • 1946 - At the Nuremberg Tribunal, public reading of the findings ends, with verdicts and sentences announced. Those sentenced to hanging: Hermann Göring, Joachim von Ribbentrop, Wilhelm Keitel, Ernst Kaltenbrunner, Alfred Rosenberg, Hans Frank, Wilhelm Frick, Julius Streicher, Fritz Sauckel, Alfred Jodl, Martin Boorman, Arthur Seyss-Inquart. Those sentenced to life imprisonment: Rudolf Hess, Walther Funk, Erich Raeder. Those sentenced to 20 years imprisonment: Baldur von Schirach, Albert Speer.   • 1966 - Albert Speer is released from Spandau prison.

Video game history:

  • 1979 - Alan Miller, David Crane, Bob Whitehead, Jim Levy, and Larry Kaplan found Activision, to produce game cartridges for the Atari 2600 game system.
  • 1992 - The Fox Broadcasting Company airs The Simpsons TV show in the US. A character is playing a handheld video game strongly resembling a Nintendo Game Boy.
  • 1993 - Panasonic releases the FZ-1 REAL 3DO Interactive Multiplayer game system in the US. It features 32-bit processor, 3 MB RAM, 16-million colors, double speed CD-ROM drive, up to eight controllers, audio CD playback. Price is US$699.95, including the game Crash 'n Burn by Crystal Dynamics. The systems are manufactured by Matsushita in Japan.
  • 1995 - Square releases the Secret of Evermore video game for the Super NES in the US. The game is a sequel to Secret of Mana.
  • 1996 - Acclaim Entertainment releases the Ultimate Mortal Kombat 3 video game for the Super NES in the US.
  • 1999 - Nintendo releases the Pokémon Yellow Version: Special Pikachu Edition video game for the Game Boy Color in the US.
  • 1999 - Nintendo releases the Mario Golf video game for the Game Boy Color.
  • 2005 - Electronic Arts releases the Marvel Nemesis: Rise of the Imperfects video game for the PlayStation 2, PlayStation Portable, Xbox, and GameCube in the US.
  • 2007 - Bungie Studies gains independence from Microsoft, with Microsoft retaining rights to Halo.
  • 2007 - Nintendo releases The Legend of Zelda: The Phantom Hourglass video game for the Nintendo DS in the US.
  • 2009 - Nintendo drops the price of the Nintendo Wii system in Japan by 5000 yen to 20,000 yen.
  • 2009 - Sony launches the Minis section of the PlayStation online store, with downloadable games for the PlayStation Portable.

Swedish history:

  • 1954 - The Ministry of Trade abolishes tariffs and restrictions on about half its imports, in order to reduce domestic prices, inflation, and increase the quantity of top-quality consumer goods in the country.
  • 1957 - Lieutenant General Thor Bonde becomes new commander of the Swedish Army. He declares that Sweden must manufacture its own atomic weapons.
  • 1982 - A foreign submarine periscope is spotted near Sweden's Musko Island naval base near Stockholm.

Canadian coin history:

  • 1870 - Government offices officially begin accepting copper bank tokens for use as decimal coins. Half penny tokens are worth one cent, and one penny tokens are worth two cents.
  • 1992 - The tenth 25c issue in the Canada 125 Coin Program is unveiled in Quebec City, Quebec. Romualda Bukauskas created the design.

USA coin history:

  • 1835 - A set of 11 current US coins (including an 1804 Draped Bust dollar) is given to the Sultan of Muscat by US officials.
  • 1866 - A. Louden Snowden begins tenure as chief coiner at Philadelphia Mint.
  • 1980 - (to October 2) In New York City, Bowers and Ruddy Galleries conduct Part III auction of the Garrett collection. Total sales $4.1 million. Some highlights:
    • 1795 $10 gold, BU: $130,000;
    • 1798/7 $10, AU: $120,000;
    • 1776 Continental silver dollar, unique, VG: $95,000;

  • 1903 - First baseball World Series game, Pittsburgh Pirates versus Boston Americans at Huntington Avenue Baseball Grounds in Boston.
  • 1908 - Jack Chesbro's final New York Yankees' victory, beats Walter Johnson 2-1.
  • 1919 - World Series #16 begins as a best of 9 affair, Chicago White Sox intentionally throw this series to satisfy gamblers (The Black Sox Scandal).
  • 1921 - First all New York series to be played entirely in one stadium (the Polo Grounds) and first New York Yankees World Series begins (World Series #18).
  • 1922 - Former Chicago Staleys play first NFL game as Chicago Bears, win 6-0.
  • 1932 - Babe Ruth's points and hits a home run there, off of Chicago Cubs' Charlie Root.
  • 1932 - NHL re-admits Ottawa and drops Pittsburgh.

First guest to enter the park is William Windsor, Junior. Cost of creating the theme park was US$400 million.
  • 1979 - Treaty between Panama and the USA over the Panama Canal goes into effect. Panama assumes jurisdiction over the Canal Zone, with operation of the canal replaced by board of 9 directors, 4 of them Panamanian. Treaty to expire December 31, 1999, when the canal will be turned over to Panama.
  • 1982 - EPCOT Center opens, at Walt Disney World in Florida. It has two main sections, Future World, and World Showcase. It cost more than US$1.2 billion to build.
  • 1984 - Gary Trudeau's Doonesbury comic strip resumes after two-year hiatus.
  • 1985 - Nintendo releases the Super Mario Bros. video game for the Nintendo Entertainment System in the US.
  • 1986 - U.S. President Ronald Reagan signs the Goldwater-Nichols Act into law, making official the largest reorganization of the United States Department of Defense since the Air Force was made a separate branch of service in 1947.
  • 1986 - US President Jimmy Carter's presidential library/museum dedicated in Atlanta, Georgia.
  • 1987 - In Pasadena, California, a magnitude 5.9-6.1 earthquake occurs. Eight people killed, 100+ injured, about 2,200 homeless and more than 10,400 buildings damaged. Felt strongly in much of southern California.
  • 1990 - President George Bush at the United Nations, condemns Iraq's takeover of Kuwait.
  • 1990 - The agreement is signed whereby the Allies of World War II return full sovereignty to Germany as of the agreed-to unification date of October 3.
  • 1992 - H. Ross Perot re-enters the 1992 U.S. presidential campaign.
  • 1992 - Pittsburgh International Airport's new facility is opened in Findlay Township, near Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. The new terminal is built as an expansion for USAir and an upgrade from the older Pittsburgh International Airport facility.
  • 1995 - Ten people are convicted of bombing the World Trade Center in 1993.
  • 1997 - Luke Woodham walks into Pearl High School in Pearl, Mississippi and opens fire, killing two girls, after killing his mother earlier that morning.
  • 2007 - Citigroup and UBS announce writedowns of US$9.3 billion of debt due to the credit crisis.
  • 2010 - Rahm Emanuel resigns as US Chief of Staff.
  • 2017 - Fifty-eight people are killed and 851 injured when Stephen Paddock opens fire on a crowd in Las Vegas as the deadliest mass shooting perpetrated by a lone gunman in U.S. history.
