- 1998 - WinBook introduces the WinBook XL computer. - 2005 - Palm releases the Palm TX handheld computer in the US, dropping the "Tungsten" name. It features 128 MB memory, 320x480 color display, 312 MHz Intel XScale processor, MMX/SD/SDIO slot, Wi-Fi and Bluetooth connectivity, audio/video player, Web browser. Price is US$299; weight is 5.25 ounces.
- 2005 - Apple Computer announces an updated iMac G5 computer. It features 20-inch wide-screen LCD, iSight camera, multibutton mouse, 2.1 GHz PowerPC G5 processor, 512 MB RAM, 250 GB hard drive, ATI Radeon X600 XT graphics, dual-layer DVD+/-RW drive, Max OS X 10.4. Price is US$1699. Price for a version with 17-inch screen and 1.9 GHz processor is US$1299.
- 1940 - Walt shows Igor Stravinsky the finished film of Fantasia.
- 1955 - The ABC TV network airs the Disneyland TV show, featuring "Adventures of Mickey Mouse".
- 1975 - The NBC TV network airs The Wonderful World of Disney show, featuring The Secret of the Pond, part two.
- 1986 - The Golden Horseshoe Revue show closes in Disneyland. It is the longest running show in history, at nearly 50,000 performances.
- 1987 - Mattel signs a licensing agreement with Disney, to design and make a line of infant and preschool toys featuring Disney characters.
- 1987 - ABC-TV airs the Disney TV special Funny, You Don't Look 200.
- 1988 - A Los Angeles Superior Court judge rules that the Walt Disney Company can use the MGM/UA name and company's logotype on a Florida studio tour.
- 1990 - Disney releases the Touchstone Pictures live-action feature film Mr. Destiny to theaters in the USA.
- 1993 - Disney releases the Touchstone Pictures stop-motion animated feature film Tim Burton's The Nightmare Before Christmas to three theaters in New York, San Francisco, and Los Angeles.

- Finishing 4th in GT Le Mans class and 13th overall is the Corvette Racing #3 Corvette C7.R driven by Mike Rockenfeller, Jan Magnussen, and Antonio Garcia.
- Finishing 7th in GT Le Mans class and 16th overall is the Corvette Racing #4 Corvette C7.R driven by Tommy Milner, Oliver Gavin, and Marcel Fassler.
- 1940 - In a convoy in the North Atlantic, submarine U-101 torpedoes and sinks the merchant ship Saint-Malo south of Iceland. The ship was a former French vessel requisitioned by the Canadian government. 28 are killed.
- 1940 - Adolf Hitler postpones invasion plans on Britain until spring 1941.
- 1941 - British Prime Minister Winston Churchill sends a message to Soviet leader Josef Stalin, suggesting Britain assume responsibility for all of Persia, releasing the six Soviet divisions guarding it.
- 1943 - Allied forces in Italy attack the German defensive line at the Volturno River, 20 miles north-west of Naples.
- 1943 - British forces begin landing on the Portuguese Azores islands, to establish airbases.
- 1944 - The Canadian 8th Brigade crosses the Scheldt, landing south-east of Hoofdplaat, then advances south to create a land route for a supply line.
- 1944 - Adolf Hitler orders that London be the sole British target of V-2 rockets.
- 1969 - Greece issues three postage stamps marking the 25th anniversary of liberation.
- 1995 - Christmas Island issues two postage stamps marking the 50th anniversary of the end of World War II.
- 2001 - In Chiba City, Japan, the 11th annual Tokyo Game Show is held, over three days. Microsoft shows the Xbox video game system, for the first time in Japan. Sega shows Virtua Fighter 4 for the PlayStation 2.
- 2002 - Namco releases the Namco Museum video game for the GameCube in the US. It includes classic arcade games Pac-Man, Ms. Pac-Man, Galaga, Pole Position, Pole Position II, Galaxian.
- 2004 - Nintendo releases the Paper Mario: The Thousand-Year Door video game for the GameCube in the US.

- 1968 - (to October 27) The 19th Olympic Games are held in Mexico City, Mexico. Sweden wins 2 gold, 1 silver, and 1 bronze medals.
- 1984 - In Toronto, the Torex show is held, over three days. At auction, a 1921 50c coin graded VF-35 sells for $20,000.
- 1993 - (to October 14) Stack's auctions part of the Reed Hawn Collection. The Mickley specimen of the 1804 Draped Bust Class I silver dollar coin sells for US$522,500 to David Queller. Dwight Manley buys at auction the Reed Hawn 1913 Liberty Head 5-cent coin (Proof 63) for $962,500.
- 1999 - The US Mint releases the 1999 Connecticut quarter dollar to circulation.
- 2004 - Stack's conducts the Part V auction of the John J. Ford Jr. Collection, selling a Massachusetts 1787 cent with arrows in right eagle talons for US$260,000.
- 1853 - John Morrissey wins boxing title, when Yankee Sullivan leaves ring after 36th round to slug Morrissey's fans.
- 1907 - Chicago Cubs beat Detroit Tigers four games to 0 with one tie in fourth World Series.
- 1916 - Boston Red Sox beat Brooklyn Dodgers, four games to one in 13th World Series.
- 1920 - Cleveland Indians beat Brooklyn Dodgers, five games to two in 17th World Series.
- 1920 - Man O' War's last horse race and win.

- 2005 - The second Chinese spacecraft, Shenzhou 6, is launched, carrying Fei Junlong and Nie Haisheng for five days in orbit.
- 2008 - The Soyuz TMA-13 spacecraft launches from Baikonur Cosmodrome, Kazakhstan. On board is US space tourist Richard Garriott, who paid about USS%15 million for the 10-day trip to the International Space Station. Richard's father, Owen Garriott, spent 60 days on a US space station in 1973.
