  • 1988 - (to November 6) In Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, the first World of Commodore trade show is held.
  • 1997 - Umax Computer introduces the C500/240 Macintosh-compatible computer. It features 240 MHz PowerPC 603e, 3 GB hard drive, 24 MB RAM, CD-ROM. Price is US$1295.
  • 2000 - Columbia Pictures releases the film Charlie's Angels to theaters in the USA and Canada. The motherboard of an Apple PowerMac G3 can be seen as part of a mainframe computer.
  • 2003 - Intel releases the 3.2 GHz Pentium 4 Extreme Edition processor, with 2 MB cache. Price is US$925 in 1000-unit quantities.

Walt Disney Company history:

  • 1925 - Animation work begins on the Alice Comedy film Alice's Balloon Race.
  • 1934 - The Silly Symphony film The Goddess of Spring is released to theaters.
  • 1950 - The Goofy film Hold that Pose is released.
  • 1954 - The ABC TV network airs the Disneyland TV show, featuring the film Alice in Wonderland.
  • 1963 - The NBC TV network airs the Walt Disney's Wonderful World of Color show, featuring The Waltz King, part one.
  • 1965 - Walt Disney appears on The Jack Benny Hour TV show.
  • 1974 - The NBC TV network airs The Wonderful World of Disney show, entitled Adventure in Satan's Canyon.
  • 1977 - Buena Vista premieres the animated and live-action feature film Pete's Dragon in selected theaters.
  • 1978 - Mickey Mouse is given a gold star on Hollywood Boulevard's Walk of Fame, the first cartoon character to be so honored.
  • 1986 - Grenada issues ten postage stamps depicting various Disney characters at Christmas.

  • 1991 - The stage show Hollywood's Pretty Woman ends.
  • 1992 - The Rainbow Fruit Market restaurant opens in Tokyo Disneyland.
  • 1992 - The Fox Broadcasting Company airs The Simpsons TV show in the US.
    • A short film is shown, a black and white cartoon titled Steamboat Itchy, a parody of Disney's Steamboat Willie.
    • In a scene forty years in the future, a movie theater is playing "Classics of Animation" with Beauty and the Beast as second billing.

  • 1993 - Disney releases the laserdisc Disney's The Little Mermaid: Ariel's Undersea Adventures Volume 2 - In Harmony / Ariel's Gift for US$30. It includes In Harmony, Charmed, Red, Trident True.
  • 1993 - Disney releases the Disney Sing Along Songs film compilation The Twelve Days of Christmas / Very Merry Christmas Songs on laserdisc in the US, for US$25.
  • 1996 - The Fox Broadcasting Company airs The Simpsons TV show in the US. A child reads a pamphlet "one of these giant redwood trees can provide enough sawdust to cover an entire day's worth of vomit at Disneyland".
  • 2006 - Disney releases the film The Santa Clause 3: The Escape Clause to theaters in the USA.
  • 2009 - Disney world premieres the film Disney's A Christmas Carol in London, England.

Chevrolet Corvette history:

  • 1956 - At the Palm Springs raceway, the last SCCA race of the season is held. Finishing 1st is the #106 1956 Corvette driven by Richard Thompson. The second place car was behind by only one second.
  • 1957 - In Palm Springs, the SCCA holds National car races.
    • Finishing 1st overall is Jerry Austin in the B-Production class #58 Corvette.
    • Finishing 2nd overall is Andy Porterfield in the B-Production class #283 Corvette.

  • 2001 - At the Daytona International Raceway in Daytona Beach, Florida, the Grand American Rolex Series Finale - Round 10 race is held.
    • Finishing 1st in AGT class and 10th overall is the Team X-1R #28 Corvette, driven by Craig Conway and Doug Goad.
    • Finishing 2nd in AGT class and 22nd overall is the Dick Greer Racing / Wendy's #82 Corvette, driven by Dick Greer and John Finger.
    • Finishing 4th in AGT class and 35th overall is the Comer Racing #84 Corvette, driven by Jack Willes and Jean-Luc Liverato.
    • Finishing 7th in AGT class and 40th overall is the ACP Motorsports #46 Corvette, driven by Kerry Hitt.
    • Finishing 8th in AGT class and 42nd overall is the Hi-Tech / Ferrea Racing #13 Corvette, driven by Luis Sereix and Daniel Urrutia.

World War II history:

  • 1940 - Elders & Fyffes cargo ship Casanare, carrying bananas from Nigeria to England, is torpedoed and sunk by German submarine U-99, with loss of 9 crewmembers. Armed merchant cruiser HMS Laurentic (former Cunard - White Star Line passenger liner) attempts to help but is struck by three torpedoes from U-99, but does not sink. Armed merchant cruiser HMS Patroclus (former Blue Funnel Line cargo ship) also attempts to help but is also struck by three torpedoes, without sinking. U-99 then surfaces and exchanges fire with Patroclus and puts a fourth torpedo in the ship, which remains afloat. A RAF Sunderland aircraft and destroyers HMS Achates and HMS Hesperus arrive, but U-99 evades hits, and manages to further torpedo and finally sink both Laurentic and Patroclus.
  • 1942 - British Bomber Command makes its first operational use of the Ventura bomber.
  • 1942 - German 13th Panzer Division reaches 2km from objective Ordzhonikidze, Russia.
  • 1943 - Adolf Hitler issues Directive 51, in which he warns of an Allied landing in western Europe, by spring of 1944. He orders the strengthening of the western defences near England and in Denmark, noting that an Allied landing would be more troublesome than Russian advances in the East.
  • 1943 - Air Chief Marshal Arthur Harris proposes to British Prime Minister Winston Churchill that sustained aerial bombing of Berlin would cost 400-500 aircraft, and cost Germany the war. Churchill authorizes commencing the Battle of Berlin.
  • 1943 - In Italy, British 5th Corps forces Germans from Trigno, who withdraw to the Sangro River.
  • 1943 - Monks at Monte Cassino in Italy complete removing the archive and library. Most of the monks also leave.
  • 1943 - (evening) British Bomber Command sends a force of Lancaster bombers to attack Düsseldorf, Germany, blind-bombing using "GH" guidance technology.
  • 1944 - The south shore of the Scheldt River is freed of German forces.
  • 1944 - (0950 hours) Operation Switchback is completed.
  • 1944 - (evening) British bombers attack Düsseldorf, Germany. A special group of 38 bombers equipped with GH radar navigation attack a tubular steel factory. They score several hits, and use of this technology is considered encouraging.
  • 1945 - In Budapest, a People's Court sentences former Premier Laszlo Bardossy to be hanged for collaboration with Germany.

Video game history:

  • 1999 - Comedy Central airs the South Park TV show in the USA. A "Chinpokomon" video game system appears, which gives one of the kids a seizure.
  • 2000 - Columbia Pictures releases the film Charlie's Angels to theaters in the USA and Canada. A video game system running Final Fantasy VIII is played by kids on a TV.
  • 2003 - Microsoft announces it has licensed processor technology from IBM, and chipset technology from Silicon Integrated Systems, for use in its next video game system.
  • 2004 - Nintendo begins taking orders for the Nintendo DS on Internet shopping sites. After receiving two million orders during the day, most sites are closed to taking any further orders.
  • 2004 - Sony releases the new smaller PlayStation 2 video game system in Japan.
  • 2014 - Activision Blizzard releases the Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare video game for the PlayStation 4, PlayStation 3, Xbox One, and Xbox 360 in the USA.
  • 2017 - Activision Blizzard releases the Call of Duty: World War II video game for the PlayStation 4 and Xbox One in the USA.

Swedish history:

  • 1655 - At Innsbruck, former Queen Kristina publicly proclaims her conversion to Catholicism.
  • 1923 - Crown Prince Gustav Adolf marries Lady Louise Mountbatten in the Chapel Royal at St. James' Palace in England, hosted by King George V.

Canadian coin history:

  • 1911 - Deputy Master of the Ottawa Mint acknowledges receipt of the matrices and punches for dies for the one dollar coin.
  • 1986 - Master dies for the new dollar coin, featuring the voyageur and canoe reverse, are picked up from the Royal Canadian Mint in Ottawa, by Mouland Express Incorporated, a courier company.

USA coin history:

  • 2005 - Heritage Auction Galleries auctions the Philip Morse collection of Saint-Gaudens double eagles. A 1907 Saint-Gaudens gold $20 coin, Ultra High Relief, Lettered Edge, Roman Numerals, graded PR-69 by NGC and PCGS, sells for US$2,990,000. A 1802 dollar, Proof 64 PCGS, sells for US$316,250.
  • 2008 - The US Mint releases the 2008 Hawaii State quarter dollar to circulation.

Sports history:

  • 1899 - Jim Jeffries retains heavyweight boxing title over Sailor Tom Sharkey.
  • 1953 - "Sacrifice fly" reactivated in baseball (dropped in 1939).
  • 1962 - Wilt Chamberlain of NBA San Francisco Warriors scores 72 points vs Los Angeles Lakers.
  • 1965 - In an unanimous vote, Dodger southpaw Sandy Koufax (26-8, 2.04, 382) is named the Cy Young Award winner.
  • 1968 - New York Jets' Jim Turner kicks six field goals to beat Buffalo Bills 25-21.
  • 1982 - Detroit Pistons block 20 Cleveland Cavalier shots tying NBA regulation game record.
  • 1989 - Minnesota Timberwolves' first NBA game, lose to Seattle SuperSonics, 106-94.
  • 1991 - New York City Marathon winners are Salvador Garcia (Mexico) and Liz McColgan (Scotland).
  • 2006 - Major League Baseball officials announce an office will be opened in China to help promote the game.
  • 2021 - At crypto.com Arena in Los Angeles, California, USA, NHL regular season game: Los Angeles Kings beats Saint Louis Blues by score 3-2.
  • 2021 - At Ball Arena in Denver, Colorado, USA, NHL regular season game: Columbus Blue Jackets beats Colorado Avalanche by score 5-4.
  • 2021 - At Rogers Place in Edmonton, Alberta, Canada, NHL regular season game: Edmonton Oilers beats Nashville Predators by score 5-2.
  • 2021 - At United Center in Chicago, Illinois, USA, NHL regular season game: Carolina Hurricanes beats Chicago Blackhawks by score 4-3.

Space exploration history:

  • 1679 - Great panic occurs in Europe over the close approach of a comet.
  • 1957 - USSR launches Sputnik 2 with a dog (Laika), first animal in orbit.
  • 1973 - Mariner 10 launched; will make first Venus pictures, first mission to Mercury.

Extreme weather history:

  • 1927 - Tropical storm flooding kills 84 in Winooski River Valley (Vermont, USA).
  • 2000 - Widespread flooding occurs throughout England and Wales after days of heavy rain.
  • 2020 - Hurricane Eta makes landfall in Nicaragua as category 4 strength, killing over 100 people in Central America.

USA history:

  • 1783 - Washington orders the Continental Army disbanded.
  • 1868 - Ulysses Grant (Republican) wins presidential election over Horatio Seymour (Democrat).
  • 1883 - Race riots in Danville, Virginia (four blacks killed).
  • 1885 - Tacoma (Washington, USA) vigilantes drive out Chinese, burn their homes and businesses.
  • 1896 - William McKinley (Republican) defeats William Jennings Bryan (Democrat) for US President.
  • 1900 - First US national automobile show opens at Madison Square Garden (New York City).
  • 1908 - William Howard Taft (Republican) elected 27th President over William Jennings Bryan.

  • 1930 - First US vehicular tunnel to a foreign country (Detroit-to-Windsor, Canada) opens.

  • 1953 - First live color coast-to-coast telecast, from Colonial Theatre in New York City broadcast to Burbank, California, via WNBT.
  • 1964 - Residents of the District of Columbia (USA) cast their ballots in a presidential election for the first time.
  • 1964 - Lyndon Johnson (Democrat) soundly defeats Barry Goldwater (Republican) for US President.

  • 1983 - Reverend Jesse Jackson announces his candidacy for the 1984 Democratic Party US presidential nomination.
  • 1986 - The Lebanese magazine Ash-Shiraa reports that the United States has been selling weapons to Iran in secret in order to secure the release of 7 American hostages held by pro-Iranian groups in Lebanon.
  • 1986 - The Compact of Free Association between the USA and the Federated States of Micronesia takes effect.
  • 1988 - US President Ronald Reagan signs credit-card disclosure-bill.
  • 1992 - U.S. presidential election: Bill Clinton defeats incumbent U.S. President George H.W. Bush and businessman H. Ross Perot.
  • 1995 - At Arlington National Cemetery, U.S. President Bill Clinton dedicates a memorial to the victims of the Pan Am Flight 103 bombing.
  • 1998 - Jesse Ventura, former professional wrestler, is elected Governor of Minnesota.
  • 2002 - In Central Alaska, a magnitude 7.9 earthquake occurs, the world's largest earthquake in 2002. No deaths, few injuries, but extensive damage to roads. Felt as far away as Seattle, Washington.
  • 2007 - In California, the Urban Challenge is held, a competition sponsored by the Defence Advanced Research Projects Agency to design a robot car capable of negotiating urban streets and normal traffic. The US$2 million first prize is won by engineers from Carnegie Mellon University for a pilotless Chevrolet Tahoe.
  • 2008 - U.S. electronics retailer Circuit City Stores begins liquidation sales at 155 of its stores, to leave it with 566 U.S. stores.
  • 2010 - The US Federal Reserve announces it will start a second round of Quantitative Easing, buying US$600 bilion of Treasury debt over eight months.
  • 2020 - Joe Biden is elected as the 46th President of the United States.

  • 1903 - Colombia grants Panama independence.
  • 1918 - Austro-Hungarian Empire dissolves.
  • 1918 - Poland proclaims independence from Russia after World War.
  • 1931 - First commercially produced synthetic rubber is manufactured.
  • 1957 - USSR launches Sputnik 2 satellite with a dog (Laika), first animal in orbit.
  • 2008 - In Brazil, Itaú and Unibanco banks announce a merger, making it the largest bank in Latin America, with assets worth 575 billion reais (US$263 billion).
