  • 1994 - Jim Clark announces to Mosaic Communications employees the new company name: Netscape Communications Corporation.
  • 1996 - Adobe Systems releases the Photoshop 4.0 image editing software for Windows 95, 3.1, NT, Macintosh, and PowerMacintosh systems. Price is US$895.
  • 2002 - Microsoft and Samsung announce they will develop a design for a low-cost handheld computer, to feature Microsoft Pocket PC operating system, Samsung 200 MHz ARM9-based S3C2410 processor, 32 MB memory, 3.5-inch display, Secure Digital card support, and size of 4.1 x 2.8 inches.
  • 2007 - Intel unveils new processors using a 45-nanometer processor. Code name during development was Penryn.
  • 2007 - The Fox Broadcasting Company airs The Simpsons TV show in the US. A personal computer appears.

Walt Disney Company history:

  • 1925 - Bard's Glendale Theater in Los Angeles previews the Alice Comedy film Alice on the Farm.
  • 1929 - Disney completes the Silly Symphony film Hell's Bells.
  • 1937 - Final animation work on Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs is completed.
  • 1940 - Disney completes work on Fantasia.
  • 1953 - Disney releases the Donald Duck film Working for Peanuts to theaters. Delores and Chip 'n' Dale also appear. It was filmed in 3-D.
  • 1956 - Walt Disney appears as a guest of the TV show, What's My Line?.
  • 1985 - Antigua & Barbuda issues six postage stamps depicting various Disney characters in The Brothers Grimm story Spindle, Shuttle and Needle.
  • 1985 - Anguilla issues five postage stamps depicting various Disney characters in Hansel and Gretel.
  • 1985 - Dominica issues six postage stamps depicting various Disney characters in Tom Sawyer.
  • 1985 - Dominica issues six postage stamps featuring Disney character versions of the Brothers Grimm story Little Red Cap.
  • 1985 - Anguilla issues five postage stamps depicting various Disney characters in Huckleberry Finn.
  • 1988 - The Disney Channel airs the Disney Channel Premiere Film Good Old Boy.
  • 1988 - Buena Vista Pictures releases the Touchstone Pictures live-action feature film Ernest Saves Christmas to theaters in the US.
  • 1991 - The Walt Disney Company and Mattel announce an agreement to extend their 1987 agreement for Mattel to develop and sell toys based on Disney characters. The extension includes Pinocchio, Bambi, Dumbo, It's a Small World, and the Autopia.
  • 1991 - Disney releases the Touchstone Pictures live-action feature film Billy Bathgate to theatres. The film cost almost US$60 million to make.
  • 1992 - Dominica issues ten postage stamps marking the 60th anniversary of Goofy.
  • 1992 - Disney pre-releases the Walt Disney Pictures animated feature film Aladdin in certain theaters.
  • 1993 - Grenada issues ten postage stamps marking the 65th anniversary of Mickey Mouse.
  • 1993 - Grenada Grenadines issues ten postage stamps marking the 65th anniversary of Mickey Mouse, depicting scenes from Mickey Mouse films.
  • 1993 - Disney announces plans to build a 150-acre amusement park called Disney's America with a history theme in Piedmont, Virginia. The 3,000 acre, US$650 million development would also include a campground, golf course, 2500 homes, and 2 million square feet of office/commercial space.
  • 1994 - Buena Vista Pictures releases the Walt Disney Pictures live-action feature film The Santa Clause to theaters.
  • 1995 - The ABC TV network airs the two-hour movie The Barefoot Executive.
  • 1997 - Disney releases the animated film Beauty and the Beast - The Enchanted Christmas on videocassette.
  • 1999 - Walt Disney Home Video releases the film 101 Dalmatians on DVD.
  • 1999 - Disney releases the film Hercules on DVD.
  • 1999 - Disney releases the film Mulan on DVD.
  • 2001 - The Fox Broadcasting Company airs The Simpsons TV show in the US. The episode title The Parent Rap is a reference to the Disney film The Parent Trap.

Chevrolet Corvette history:

  • 1962 - In Caguas, Puerto Rico, the Puerto Rican Grand Prix car race is held.
    • Finishing 1st overall is the Grady Davis #41 Corvette Sting Ray Z06 driven by Richard Thompson.
    • Finishing 2nd overall is the #49 Corvette driven by Don Yenko.

  • 1984 - At Las Vegas, Nevada, the Caesars Palace Grand Prix / SCCA Budweiser Trans-Am Championship - Round 16 race is held.
    • Finishing 3rd is the DeAtley Budweiser #1 Corvette, driven by David Hobbs.
    • Finishing 9th is the DeAtley Budweiser #6 Corvette, driven by Jerry Brassfield.
    • Finishing 10th is the Brandt Racing #60 Corvette, driven by John Brandt.
    • In 16th place, but not finishing the race, is the DeAtley Budweiser #9 Corvette, driven by Jimmy Insolo.
    • In 18th place, but not finishing the race, is the Automotive Enterprise #27 Corvette, driven by Rich Sloma.
    • In 20th place, but not finishing the race, is the DeAtley Budweiser #3 Corvette, driven by Darin Brassfield.

  • 2006 - Ivan and Mary Schrodt announce the donation of a family trust, life insurance policy, and six Corvettes to the National Corvette Museum. Total value is US$1.3 million.

World War II history:

  • 1939 - French Colonel Charles de Gaulle urges general headquarters that French tanks be formed into armored divisions rather than be dispersed as infantry supports. His ideas are rejected.
  • 1939 - In England, Dr. R.V. Jones submits The Hitler Waffe report, listing seven possible secret German weapons, with #5 being long-range guns and rockets.
  • 1939 - The Belgian Army cancels military leaves.
  • 1939 - Belgian police along the French border receive orders to clear roads to allow for French forces entering into Belgium.
  • 1939 - Portuguese Foreign Ministry issues dispatch Number 14 instructing consuls to issue visas (to Portugal) only to those with ticket on ship out of Lisbon, no visas to Czechs, Russians, and Jews.
  • 1940 - German surface raider Atlantis captures British merchant ship MV Automedon en route to Singapore. A bag of sensitive documents on Britain's Far East policy is not destroyed before capture, and is later sent to Japan, aiding their campaign on the Malaya Peninsula and the Dutch East Indies.
  • 1940 - (evening) British aircraft carrier HMS Illustrious launches 21 Swordfish planes, attacking the Italian naval fleet at Taranto. Four major ships are sunk or put out of action. Two attacking aircraft are shot down.
  • 1942 - Admiral François Darlan, senior French officer in North Africa, signs a cease-fire ending French fighting in the area.
  • 1942 - Adolf Hitler launches Operation Anton, with German forces occupying the remainder of France and the island of Corsica.
  • 1942 - Spain mobilizes its army along the French border.
  • 1942 - British General Anderson sends a force to capture Bougie port, 110 miles east of Algiers.
  • 1943 - US Task Group 50.4, with carriers Saratoga and Princeton, launches an air assault on Rabaul, attacking a light cruiser and four destroyers without success.
  • 1943 - (0830 hours) American planes from carriers and New Georgia arrive over Cape St. George en route to Rabaul, met by 68 Japanese Zero fighter planes.
  • 1943 - (0905 hours) American planes attack Japanese ships at Rabaul. Light cruiser Agano is hit by a torpedo. Destroyer Naganami is hit by a torpedo. Destroyer Suzunami is sunk near the harbor entrance. Light cruiser Yubari is slightly damaged. Destroyer Urakaze is slightly damaged. Destroyer Umikaze is slightly damaged.
  • 1943 - (1200 hours) Rabaul naval commander Rear Admiral Jinichi Kusaka launches a counterattack on US Task Group 50.3, sending a large force of fighters and bombers.
  • 1943 - (about 1400 hours) Japanese fighters and bombers reach US Task Force 50.3, battling American fighters before reaching the ships.
  • 1943 - (1412 hours) US Task Force 50.3 commander Rear Admiral Alfred Montgomery cancels preparation of planes for a second strike on Rabaul, to deal with the incoming Japanese planes.
  • 1943 - (1458 hours) US Task Force 50.3 survives the Japanese air attack with no loss of ships, and only injuries to ten sailors.
  • 1978 - France issues a postage stamp depicting a monument to Polish veterans of the war.
  • 1990 - Marshall Islands issues four postage stamps marking the 50th anniversary of the Battle of Taranto.
  • 2001 - Poland issues a postage stamp depicting soldiers at the 1944 Warsaw uprising.

Video game history:

  • 1998 - Capcom releases the Resident Evil 2: Dual Shock Version video game for the PlayStation in the US.
  • 1999 - Electronic Arts releases the Medal of Honor video game for the PlayStation in the US.
  • 2002 - Nintendo releases the Donkey-Kong-e video game for the e-Reader in the US.
  • 2002 - Capcom releases the Resident Evil Zero video game for the GameCube in the US.
  • 2002 - Nintendo releases the Mario Bros.-e video game for the e-Reader in the US.
  • 2002 - Sega releases the Sonic Mega Collection video game for the GameCube in the US.
  • 2003 - Sony CEA releases the Ratchet & Clank: Going Commando video game for the PlayStation 2 in the US.
  • 2005 - France issues ten postage stamps depicting video game characters. On 20-cent stamps: Link, Pac-Man, Prince of Persia, Spyro, and Donkey Kong. On 33-cent stamps: Mario, Adibou, Rayman, Lara Croft, and The Sims.
  • 2005 - Atari releases The Matrix: Path of Neo video game for the PlayStation 2 and Xbox in the US.
  • 2005 - Columbia Pictures releases the film Zathura: A Space Adventure to theaters in the USA. A character holds up PlayStation 2 controllers and asks to play "Smash Brothers".
  • 2006 - Nintendo releases the Elite Beat Agents video game for the Nintendo DS in the USA.
  • 2006 - Sony releases the PlayStation 3 video game system in Japan.
  • 2007 - Sony releases the new PlayStation 3 in Japan. It comes with a 40GB hard drive, no PlayStation 2 compatibility, price 39,980 yen.
  • 2007 - The Fox Broadcasting Company airs The Simpsons TV show in the US. A video game is played on a system like the PlayStation, with similar controllers.
  • 2008 - Microsoft Game Studios releases the Banjo-Kazooie: Nuts & Bolts for the Xbox 360 in the USA.
  • 2008 - Electronic Arts releases the Command & Conquer: Red Alert 3 video game for the Xbox 360 in the USA.
  • 2010 - Bethesda Softworks releases The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim for the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 in the US.
  • 2011 - Bethesda Softworks releases The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim video game for the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 in the US.
  • 2014 - Ubisoft releases the Assassin's Creed Rogue video game for the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 in the USA.

Swedish history:

  • 1918 - The war in Europe ends.

  • 1934 - First penalty shot versus Toronto Maple Leafs, Mondou (Montreal Canadiens) unsuccessful.
  • 1944 - New York Rangers set NHL record of 25 games without a win (0-21-4).
  • 1946 - New York Knicks' first game at Madison Square Garden loses 78-68 to Chicago Stags.
  • 1959 - Seals Stadium in San Francisco is demolished.
  • 1960 - Largest New York Knicks' 49th Steet Madison Square Gardens crowd-18,499.
  • 1968 - Ron Hill sets record 10-mile run (46:44) at Leicester, England.
  • 1980 - New York Islanders' Mike Bossy scores four goals against Minnesota North Stars.
  • 1982 - 30th time New York Islanders shut-out-2-0 versus Minnesota North Stars.
  • 1989 - Canadian swimmer Victor Davis is hit by a car outside a nightclub in Montreal, Quebec. He dies two days later.
  • 2001 - St. Louis Cardinals' first baseman Mark McGwire turns down a two-year, US$30 million extension, retiring from the sport.
  • 2003 - Roy Halladay of the Toronto Blue Jays wins the American League Cy Young Award.
  • 2021 - At Gila River Arena in Glendale, Arizona, USA, NHL regular season game: Minnesota Wild beats Arizona Coyotes by score 5-2.
  • 2021 - At American Airlines Center in Dallas, Texas, USA, NHL regular season game: Nashville Predators beats Dallas Stars by score 4-2.
  • 2021 - At Wells Fargo Center in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, USA, NHL regular season game: Toronto Maple Leafs beats Philadelphia Flyers by score 3-0.

  • 1995 - In New Orleans, Louisiana, USA, the casino venture files for Chapter 11 bankruptcy.
  • 2009 - At the Greensville Correctional Center in In Jarratt, Virginia, USA, John Allen Muhammad is executed by lethal injection. Muhannad was convicted of sniper shootings that killed 10 people and terrified the Washington, D.C., region in 2002.
