  • 1982 - Atari signs an agreement with Nintendo for the world-wide license of Donkey Kong and Donkey Kong Junior video games for Atari home computers.
  • 1993 - Apple Computer drops the Apple IIe computer from its product list.
  • 1996 - The Republic of China issues a postage stamp showing a woman in a wheelchair working at a personal computer.
  • 1999 - At the Fall COMDEX show, Corel releases Corel Linux OS 1.0. Price is free as a Web site download, US$59.95 standard edition in box with CD and manuals, US$89.95 deluxe edition with games, and WordPerfect.
  • 1999 - The Marshall Islands issues a postage stamp depicting personal computers, part of a series on events of the 20th century.
  • 1999 - Everex announces it has abandoned plans for the Freestyle 540 handheld computer, and discontinuing its monochrome palm-size computer.
  • 2000 - Comedy Central airs the South Park TV show in the USA. Several personal computers appear.
  • 2001 - Advanced Micro Devices introduces the 1.2 MHz Duron processor. It features 192 kB on-chip cache, 200 MHz front-side bus, superscalar floating-point unit, 3DNow! Professional technology, and hardware data pre-fetch. Price is US$103 in 1,000-unit quantities.
  • 2004 - Intel releases the 3.8 GHz Pentium 4 570J processor. It features 1 MB cache, 800 MHz front-side bus, and 90 nanometer fabrication. Price is US$637 in 1000-unit quantities.
  • 2004 - In San Jose's Tech Museum of Innovation, Sun Microsystems' Chairman and CEO Scott McNealy unveils Solaris 10 operating system. The software is set to ship at the end of January.
  • 2007 - Electronic Arts releases the SimCity Societies game for personal computers in the USA. Price is US$49.95.

Walt Disney Company history:

  • 1924 - M.J. Winkler Productions releases the Alice Comedy film Alice Hunting in Africa to theaters.
  • 1925 - M.J. Winkler Productions releases the Alice Comedy film Alice Rattled by Rats to theaters.
  • 1926 - Film Booking Offices releases the Alice Comedy film Alice Helps the Romance to theaters.
  • 1926 - Disney ships the 43rd Alice Comedy film, Alice's Rodeo, to Winkler Pictures.
  • 1928 - Disney completes the Mickey Mouse film The Barn Dance. Minnie Mouse also appears.
  • 1929 - Disney completes the Mickey Mouse film Jungle Rhythm.
  • 1932 - The Disney Art Class first meets, with Don Graham of the Chouinard School of Art lecturing at the Disney Studios.
  • 1964 - The NBC TV network airs the Walt Disney's Wonderful World of Color show, featuring Ben and Me, and Peter and the Wolf.
  • 1965 - At the Cherry Plaza Hotel in Orlando, Florida, Walt Disney, Roy Disney, and Florida Governor Hayden Burns make the first public announcement of plans to build a new Disney theme park near Orlando.
  • 1985 - The Chocolate Collection shop opens in New Orleans Square in Disneyland.
  • 1985 - Bhutan issues twelve postage stamps depicting various Disney characters in the Brothers Grimm story Rapunzel.
  • 1986 - The Disney Channel airs the Disney Channel Premiere Film Down the Long Hills.
  • 1986 - The ABC TV network airs the last episode of The Ellen Burstyn Show for the season.
  • 1989 - Buena Vista premieres the animated film The Little Mermaid in Los Angeles, California, and New York City.
  • 1990 - The Fox Broadcasting Company airs The Simpsons TV show. The episode title "Dead Putting Society" is a play on the title of the Disney film Dead Poets Society.
  • 1991 - Disney releases the film The Rescuers Down Under on videocassette, and laserdisc for US$30-40.
  • 1991 - The animated feature film Beauty and the Beast opens at the El Capitan theater in Los Angeles, and the Cinema One theater in New York City.
  • 1992 - The World According to Goofy parade at Disneyland makes its last run.
  • 1993 - The Garden Grill Restaurant opens in The Land in Epcot at Walt Disney World.
  • 1998 - The Fox Broadcasting Company airs The Simpsons TV show in the US. A character has a hallucination, with a pink elephant appearing similar to the ones in the film Dumbo.
  • 2006 - The ABC TV network premieres the Day Break TV show.
  • 2009 - (to March 14, 2010) The New Orleans Museum of Art in Louisiana hosts the Dreams Come True: Art of the Classic Fairy Tales From the Walt Disney Studio exhibit.

Chevrolet Corvette history:

  • 1964 - At the Riverside International Raceway in California, the American Road Race of Champions final races of the SCCA Club Racing series are held. This is the first year of the SCCA holding an end of season competition among the best amateurs of the year.
    • Finishing 3rd in A Production class and 3rd overall is the #62 Corvette Sting Ray driven by Dick Guldstrand.
    • Finishing 2nd in B Production class and 5th overall is the #33 Corvette driven by Paul Canary.
    • Finishing 5th in B Production class and 8th overall is the #63 Corvette driven by Fred Sutherland.
    • Finishing 7th in B Production class and 10th overall is the #11 Corvette driven by Don Yenko.
    • Finishing 8th in B Production class and 11th overall is the #62 Corvette driven by John Coyle.
    • Finishing 9th in B Production class and 12th overall is the #12 Corvette driven by John Bushell.
    • Finishing 10th in B Production class and 14th overall is the #43 Corvette driven by Brad Brooker.
    • Finishing 12th in B Production class and 16th overall is the #44 Corvette driven by Jerry Henderson.

World War II history:

  • 1939 - German pocket-battleship Admiral Graf Spee sinks Africa Shell in the Mozambique Channel.
  • 1940 - (evening) 67 British Wellington, Whitley, and Hampden bombers attack Hamburg, Germany, doing extensive damage to the city and shipyards, with no loss of aircraft.
  • 1941 - German forces in Russia make a final push for Moscow before winter sets in. The German 4th Army makes a frontal assault, while Panzer groups attack toward the north and south-east.
  • 1942 - German General Walther Nehring takes command of the 90th Corps, in charge of Tunisia.
  • 1943 - British Air Marshal Sir Trafford Leigh-Mallory is appointed Air Commander-in-Chief of the Allied Expeditionary Force.
  • 1968 - Poland issues five postage stamps depicting memorials to the 1939-45 struggle.
  • 2000 - Poland issues two postage stamps marking the 60th anniversary of the Katyn Massacre.
  • 2001 - Russia issues a postage stamp marking the 60th anniversary of the defence of Moscow.

Video game history:

  • 1982 - Atari signs an agreement with Nintendo for the world-wide license of Donkey Kong and Donkey Kong Junior video games for Atari home computers.
  • 1982 - The Columbia Broadcasting System airs the Cagney and Lacey TV show in the USA. The Colecovision home videogame system appears; it appears to be playing Vanguard.
  • 1991 - Quest releases the Magical Chase video game for the PC Engine in Japan.
  • 1993 - Sega releases the Sonic Spinball video game for the Genesis and Game Gear in the US.
  • 1996 - At the Pacific Science Center in Seattle, Washington, over five days, 3000 participants rate 57 video games. Top pick is Super Mario 64 for the Nintendo 64.
  • 1999 - Nintendo releases the Donkey Kong 64 video game for the Nintendo 64 in the US. Included within the game is the original Donkey Kong video game.
  • 1999 - Eidos releases the Tomb Raider: The Last Revelation video game for the PlayStation and Dreamcast in the US.
  • 2001 - Microsoft launches the Xbox game system in North America. Price is US$299. The system features four controller ports, one controller, 8 GB hard drive, 733 MHz Intel main processor, 250 MHz NVidia XGP graphics processor, 64 MB RAM, 3D audio support, Ethernet port, broadband Internet connection. Games come on dual-layer DVD-ROM discs that can store 9 GB of data. The system can also play DVD movies, requiring an optional remote control device.
  • 2001 - At 12:01 AM in New York's Time Square, Microsoft Chairman Bill Gates signs and sells the first Xbox, to Edward Glucksman.
  • 2001 - Microsoft releases the Project Gotham Racing video game for the Xbox in the US.
  • 2001 - Tecmo releases the Dead or Alive 3 video game for the Xbox in the US.
  • 2001 - Microsoft releases the Oddworld: Munch's Oddysee video game for the Xbox in the US.
  • 2001 - Microsoft releases the Halo video game for the Xbox in the US.
  • 2001 - Nintendo releases the Golden Sun video game for the Game Boy Advance in the US.
  • 2004 - Nintendo releases the Donkey Kong Country 2 video game for the Game Boy Advance in the US.
  • 2004 - Nintendo releases the Metroid Prime 2: Echoes video game for the GameCube in the US.
  • 2005 - Electronic Arts releases the Half-Life 2 video game for the Xbox in the US.
  • 2005 - Buena Vista releases The Chronicles of Narnia: The Lion, The Witch, and The Wardrobe video game for the PlayStation 2, Xbox, and GameCube in the US.
  • 2005 - Electronic Arts releases the Need for Speed: Most Wanted video game for the PlayStation 2, Xbox, and GameCube in the US.
  • 2005 - Agetec releases the Wild Arms: Alter Code F video game for the PlayStation 2 in the US.

  • 2009 - Nintendo releases the New Super Mario Bros. Wii video game for the Nintendo Wii in the USA.
  • 2011 - Electronic Arts releases the Need for Speed: The Run video game for the PlayStation 3, Xbox 360, Nintendo 3DS, and Nintendo Wii in the US.
  • 2011 - Microsoft releases the Halo: Combat Evolved Anniversary video game for the Xbox 360 in the US.
  • 2011 - Ubisoft releases the Assassin's Creed Revelations video game for the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 in the US.
  • 2011 - THQ releases the Saints Row: The Third video game for the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 in the US.
  • 2011 - Sega releases the Shinobi video game for the Nintendo 3DS in the US.
  • 2011 - Ubisoft releases the Rayman Origins video game for the PlayStation 3, Xbox 360, and Nintendo Wii in the US.

Swedish history:

  • 1844 - Mr. Strandberg first sings "Song to the North" with lyrics by Richard Dybeck. The patriotic words lead to the song becoming Sweden's national anthem.
  • 2001 - Gambia issues a postage stamp depicting Sweden's King Carl XVI Gustaf and Queen Silvia.

Canadian coin history:

  • 1911 - A proclamation sets the designs for the $5 and $10 gold coins.
  • 1996 - Bowers & Merena hosts an auction of the Norweb Collection of Canadian Coins, in Baltimore, Maryland. The coins sell for about $2.75 million. Some examples:
    • 50 cents 1951 MS-67: US$90,200 ($121,400);
    • 25 cents 1885/6 SP-66: $45,900;
    • 5 cents 1884 N4 MS-62: $37,000;
    • 50 cents 1910 MS-65: $29,600;
    • 50 cents 1909 MS-64: $26,600.

  • 2008 - The Royal Canadian Mint releases the 9th Vancouver 2010 Olympics circulating 25-cent coin, depicting figure skating. The reverse design was created by Glenn Green.

USA coin history:

  • 1938 - Jefferson 5-cent coins are released to circulation in the US.
  • 2007 - The US Mint releases the 2007 James Madison Presidential dollar to circulation.
  • 2010 - The US Mint releases the 2010 Mount Hood National Park quarter dollar coin to circulation.
  • 2012 - The US Mint launches the 2012 Denali National Park and Preserve quarter dollar in Healy, Alaska.
  • 2012 - The US Mint releases the 2012 Grover Cleveland Presidential dollar to circulation.

Sports history:

  • 1960 - Elgin Baylor of NBA Los Angeles Lakers scores 71 points versus New York Knicks.
  • 1964 - Mickey Wright shoots a 62, lowest golf score for a woman professional.
  • 1983 - Mike Bossy scores 75th hat trick in New York Islanders' history.
  • 2005 - The American baseball players' association and franchise owners agree to toughen the current penalties for the use of steroids, using a 50-game suspension for a first offense, 100 games for a second, and then lifetime ban for a third.
  • 2021 - At Nationwide Arena in Columbus, Ohio, USA, NHL regular season game: Columbus Blue Jackets beats Detroit Red Wings by score 5-3.
  • 2021 - At Amalie Arena in Tampa, Florida, USA, NHL regular season game: Tampa Bay Lightning beats New York Islanders by score 4-1.

Space exploration history:

  • 1966 - Gemini XII returns to Earth.
  • 1972 - Small Astronomy Satellite Explorer 48 is launched to study gamma rays.
  • 1988 - In the Soviet Union, the unmanned space shuttle Buran is launched by an Energia rocket on its maiden orbital spaceflight (the first and last space flight for the shuttle).
  • 1990 - US 68th manned space mission STS 38 (Atlantis 7) launches into orbit on a classified military mission.
  • 2020 - NASA and SpaceX launch the SpaceX Crew-1 mission from Kennedy Space Center Launch Complex 39A to the ISS, the first operational flight of the Crew Dragon capsule.

USA history:

  • 1763 - Charles Mason and Jeremiah Dixon begin surveying Mason-Dixon Line between Pennsylvania and Maryland.
  • 1777 - Articles of Confederation adopted by Continental Congress.
  • 1791 - First Catholic college in the US opens, Georgetown.

  • 2006 - The State of Hawaii bans smoking in all enclosed public places.
  • 2006 - In the Kuril Islands, a magnitude 8.3 earthquake occurs. A tsunami with a recorded wave height of 176 cm damages a dock at Crescent City, California.
  • 2008 - In Washington, D.C., leaders of the "G20" nations, representing 90 percent of global GDP, meet for an economic summit, for the first time ever.
  • 2020 - NASA and SpaceX launch the SpaceX Crew-1 mission from Kennedy Space Center Launch Complex 39A to the ISS, the first operational flight of the Crew Dragon capsule.
