Personal computer history:

  • 1986 - Paramount Pictures releases the film Star Trek IV: The Voyage Home to theaters in the USA. An Apple Computer Macintosh Plus is used to graphically depict a complex metal formula. A person from the future who travels back to 1986 tries to talk into the mouse of the computer.
  • 1995 - The Fox Broadcasting Company airs The Simpsons TV show in the US. A TV news anchorman says "don't forget to look for my new column in PC World magazine".
  • 2000 - The Fox Broadcasting Company airs The Simpsons TV show in the US. A personal computer is used to project the look of a family over 34 years.

Walt Disney Company history:

  • 1927 - Disney ships the Oswald the Lucky Rabbit film Bright Lights to Winkler Productions.
  • 1937 - The Mickey Mouse film Pluto's Quin-Puplets is released. Pluto stars, without Mickey Mouse. Fifi also appears.
  • 1943 - The Donald Duck film Home Defense is released to theaters.
  • 1958 - Disney releases the animated short film The Legend of Sleepy Hollow to theaters. It was originally part of the feature film Ichabod and Mr. Toad.
  • 1961 - The NBC TV network airs the Walt Disney's Wonderful World of Color show, entitled Holiday for Henpecked Husbands, with Goofy.
  • 1972 - The NBC TV network airs The Wonderful World of Disney show, featuring Chandar, the Black Leopard of Ceylon, part one.
  • 1974 - The NBC TV network airs Winnie the Pooh and the Blustery Day.
  • 1975 - The NBC TV network airs NBC All-Disney Night at the Movies featuring The Moon Spinners and Prowlers of the Everglades.
  • 1984 - Caicos Islands issues six postage stamps with various Disney characters in Christmas scenes.
  • 1984 - Grenada Grenadines issues six postage stamps depicting scenes from various Donald Duck films.
  • 1985 - The Disney Channel ceases airing the Anka TV show.
  • 1987 - Tokyo Disneyland welcomes its 50-millionth guest.
  • 1989 - The NBC TV network airs The Magical World of Disney show, featuring Parent Trap Hawaiian Honeymoon, part two.
  • 1992 - The film Beauty and the Beast is released to theaters in Germany and the Netherlands.
  • 1997 - Buena Vista Pictures releases the Walt Disney Pictures live-action feature film Flubber to theaters in the USA. The film is a remake of the 1961 film The Absent Minded Professor.
  • 1999 - McDonald's restaurants begin a promotion campaign for the Toy Story 2 film, running until December 23.
  • 2009 - In New York City, the 83rd annual Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade takes place. Included is the debut of the "Sailor Mickey Balloon", about 61 feet high, filled with 14,000 cubic feet of helium. The balloon promotes the Disney Cruise Line.

Chevrolet Corvette history:

  • 1967 - At the Daytona International Speedway in Florida, the American Road Race of Champions final races of the SCCA Club Racing series are held.
    • Results of Corvette drivers for A Production class: 2nd Tony DeLorenzo, 5th Rex Ramsey, 6th Dave Morgan, 7th Bob Johnson, 8th Scott Briley, 9th J. Clark Silver.
    • Results of Corvette drivers for B Production class: 4th Kurt Reinold, 6th Phil Warder, 7th Tom Dutton, 10th Carl Simons, 12th Bob Fryer, 13th Bill Petree, 15th Frank Search, 17th Allan Barker.

  • 1978 - At the Daytona International Speedway in Daytona, Florida, the Camel GT 250 race is held, round 14 of the Camel GT Challenge.
    • Finishing 1st in GTO class and 8th overall is the #04 Corvette driven by Rick Thompkins.
    • Finishing 8th in GTO class and 18th overall is the #72 Corvette driven by Murray Edwards.
    • Finishing 9th in GTO class and 19th overall is the #24 Corvette driven by Carmen Lista.
    • Finishing 11th in GTX class and 30th overall is the #99 Corvette driven by Phil Currin.
    • Finishing 14th in GTO class and 35th overall is the Al Levenson #05 Corvette driven by Al Levenson and Tom Brown.
    • Placing 15th in GTX class and 43rd overall is the #5 Corvette driven by Javier Garcia.
    • Placing 18th in GTO class and 48th overall is the RJV Enterprises #65 Corvette driven by Richard Valentine.
    • Placing 19th in GTO class and 55th overall is the #61 Corvette driven by Lamar Mann and Guido Levetto.
    • Placing 21st in GTO class and 60th overall is the #12 Corvette driven by Ford Smith.

  • 1986 - At the Daytona International Speedway, in Daytona Beach, Florida, the Eastern Airlines 3-Hour Camel Grand Prix for IMSA GTP race is held.
    • Finishing 14th is the Hendrick Motorsports #52 Corvette GTP.
    • The Hendrick Motorsports #22 Corvette GTP retires early with exhaust problems. Drivers of the two Corvette GTP entries are Darel van der Merwe, Doc Bundy, and Wally Dallenback, Jr.
    • The Walker Racing #55 Corvette is raced by Greg Walker and Nort Northam.
    • The Morrison-Cook Motorsports #87 Corvette is raced by Bob McConnell and Tommy Morrison.
    • The Morrison-Cook Motorsports #88 Corvette is raced by Ron Garble and John Heinricy. The two Corvettes finish 17th and 43rd overall.

World War II history:

  • 1939 - Finland rejects the Soviet demand for military bases on her territory.
  • 1939 - A shooting incident occurs between Finland and the Soviet Union. Soviets claim Finns killed three privates and one officer from seven shells. Finns claim they fired none.
  • 1939 - Polish trans-atlantic liner Pilsudski is sunk by a mine or torpedo.
  • 1940 - (0850 hours) The German foreign minister receives the Soviet reply to Hitler's suggestion they join the Tripartite Pact. The Soviet Government will accept the Four Power Pact with certain modifications: German troops must be removed from Finland, a mutual assistance pact must be signed between the Soviet Union and Bulgaria including a lease for a Soviet naval and land base, an area toward the Persian Gulf must be recognized as a Soviet aspiration, and Japan must renounce oil and coal consessions in Northern Sakhalin island.
  • 1941 - A Japanese task force of six aircraft carriers, two battleships, and several destroyers and cruisers begins sailing from northern Japan to Hawaii.
  • 1941 - British General Sir Claude Auchinleck replaces Lieutenant General Sir Alan Cunningham with Lieutenant General Sir Neil Ritchie to command the British 8th Army in North Africa.
  • 1941 - British Prime Minister Winston Churchill sends a message to US President Franklin Roosevelt, reminding him of American responsibility for Chinese interests, and to stiffen his resolve in talks with Japan.
  • 1941 - In Washington, D.C., the Secretary of State hands to Japanese Ambassador Nomura a draft proposed agreement between Japan and the US. It proposes both countries agree to have no intention to threaten other countries or use military force aggressively against any neighbor, Japan will leave China and Indochina, and several statements about ensuring fair equal trade.
  • 1943 - A German He 177 bomber attacks a convoy off the Algerian coast. A Hs 293 guided bomb hits British troopship Rohna, killing nearly 1200, including over 1000 Americans.
  • 1943 - (evening) 433 British Lancaster bombers and seven Mosquito fighter/bombers attack Berlin, Germany. Damage is moderate, with 38 industrial plants destroyed. About 27 planes are shot down, and another 14 crash land on their return to England.

Video game history:

  • 1980 - Atari releases the Battle Zone arcade game.
  • 1999 - Sega announces its plans to make the DreamCast the center of its Web strategy, focusing on multiplayer online gaming.
  • 2002 - Square and Enix announce they are merging companies to form Square Enix by April 1, 2003.
  • 2014 - Sierra releases the Geometry Wars 3: Dimensions video game for the PlayStation 4 and Xbox One in the USA.

Swedish history:

  • 1497 - King Hans of Denmark and Norway is acclaimed King of Sweden.
  • 1612 - King Gustav Adolf revokes all revenue grants, so that they may be applied to the expense of war.

USA coin history:

  • 1795 - The Mint makes first delivery of silver coins in the authorized 0.8924+ fineness standard, 33,900 half dimes.
  • 1862 - The US government purchases the site for the future Denver Mint for $25,000.
  • 2011 - NASA's Mars rover Curiosity is launched, carrying a 1909 Lincoln cent (with V.D.B. initials). The coin is mounted as part of a calibration target to test the performance of the Mars Hand Lens imager.

Sports history:

  • 1896 - First large indoor football game, University of Chicago beats University of Michigan 7-6.
  • 1896 - A.A. Stagg of University of Chicago creates the football huddle.
  • 1941 - Amateur tennis champion Bobby Riggs turns pro.
  • 1952 - The 40th Grey Cup game becomes Canada's first televised football game as CBLT-TV shows hometown Toronto Argonauts beating Edmonton Eskimos 21-11.
  • 1972 - Pete Gogolak scores New York Giants record 8 points after a touchdown.
  • 1982 - Clyde King named New York Yankees' manager.
  • 1982 - Howard Cossell calls his last fight after being disgusted by the Larry Holmes-Tex Cobb mismatch.
  • 1984 - John W Mercom Junior announces New Orleans Saints are up for sale for US$75 million.
  • 1990 - Buffalo Bills become 6th first place NFL team to lose on same weekend.
  • 2000 - The BC Lions win the Canadian Football League Championship for the first time since 1994, defeating the Montreal Alouettes 28-26 in the 88th Grey Cup at McMahon Stadium in Calgary, Alberta.
  • 2005 - B.J. Ryan agrees to a $47 million, five-year deal with the Toronto Blue Jays.
  • 2021 - At SAP Center in San Jose, California, USA, NHL regular season game: Toronto Maple Leafs beats San Jose Sharks by score 4-1.
  • 2021 - At American Airlines Center in Dallas, Texas, USA, NHL regular season game: Dallas Stars beats Colorado Avalanche by score 3-1.
  • 2021 - At UBS Arena in Elmont, New York, USA, NHL regular season game: Pittsburgh Penguins beats New York Islanders by score 1-0.
  • 2021 - At Nationwide Arena in Columbus, Ohio, USA, NHL regular season game: Columbus Blue Jackets beats Vancouver Canucks by score 4-2.
  • 2021 - At Amalie Arena in Tampa, Florida, USA, NHL regular season game: Tampa Bay Lightning beats Seattle Kraken by score 3-0.
  • 2021 - At KeyBank Center in Buffalo, New York, USA, NHL regular season game: Buffalo Sabres beats Montreal Canadiens by score 4-1.
  • 2021 - At Bridgestone Arena in Nashville, Tennessee, USA, NHL regular season game: Nashville Predators beats New Jersey Devils by score 4-2.
  • 2021 - At Capital One Arena in Washington, D.C., USA, NHL regular season game: Washington Capitals beats Florida Panthers by score 4-3.
  • 2021 - At Honda Center in Anaheim, California, USA, NHL regular season game: Anaheim Ducks beats Ottawa Senators by score 4-0.
  • 2021 - At Xcel Energy Center in Saint Paul, Minnesota, USA, NHL regular season game: Minnesota Wild beats Winnipeg Jets by score 7-1.
  • 2021 - At United Center in Chicago, Illinois, USA, NHL regular season game: Chicago Blackhawks beats Saint Louis Blues by score 3-2.
  • 2021 - At Wells Fargo Center in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, USA, NHL regular season game: Carolina Hurricanes beats Philadelphia Flyers by score 6-3.
  • 2021 - At TD Garden in Boston, Massachusetts, USA, NHL regular season game: New York Rangers beats Boston Bruins by score 5-1.

Space exploration history:

  • 1965 - France launches first satellite, 92 pounds (42kg) A1-capsule (Asterix), becoming third nation in space.
  • 1985 - 23rd Space Shuttle Mission (61-B)-Atlantis 2-is launched.
  • 1988 - Alexander Volkov, Sergei Krikalev, and Jean-Loup Chretien launch into space.
  • 1988 - Pioneer 6's closest approach to Earth since 1965 launch (1.87 million km).
  • 2011 - The Mars Science Laboratory rover Curiosity, the most elaborate Martian exploration vehicle to date, is launched from the Kennedy Space Center. It is slated to land on Mars on August 5, 2012.
  • 2018 - NASA's InSight probe successfully lands on the surface of Mars.

Extreme weather history:

  • 1703 - Bristol England damaged by hurricane, Royal Navy loses 15 warships.
  • 1703 - A severe storm destroys the Eddystone lighthouse off Plymouth, Devon, England, killing resident designer Mr. Winstanley.

USA history:

  • 1789 - First national thanksgiving.
  • 1825 - First college fraternity founded (Kappa Alpha (Union College, New York)).
  • 1861 - At Wheeling, a convention adopts a constitution for new state West Virginia.
  • 1862 - The US government purchases the site for the future Denver Mint for $25,000.
  • 1941 - US President Franklin Roosevelt signs a bill officially establishing the fourth Thursday in November as Thanksgiving Day.
  • 1945 - During snow storm, school bus crashes, killing 15 (Washington).
  • 1963 - US Treasury announces $1 Federal Reserve notes will replace $1 silver certificates.
  • 1973 - Albert DiSalvo, Boston strangler, stabbed to death.
  • 1973 - US President Richard Nixon's personal secretary, Rose Mary Woods, tells a federal court she accidentally caused part of 18-minute gap in a key Watergate tape.
  • 1975 - US Federal jury finds Lynette Fromme guilty of attempted assassination of President Gerald Ford.
  • 1978 - Ten die as fire erupts at Holiday Inn in Rochester, New York.
  • 1985 - 23rd Space Shuttle Mission (61-B)-Atlantis 2-is launched.
  • 1985 - U.S. President Ronald Reagan sells the rights to his autobiography to Random House for a record US$3 million.
  • 1986 - U.S. President Ronald Reagan announces that former Senator John Tower, former Secretary of State Edmund Muskie, and former National Security Adviser Brent Scowcroft will serve as members of the Special Review Board looking into the Iran-Contra arms scandal (they became known as the Tower Commission). Reagan denies involvement in the scandal.
  • 1990 - Matsushita Electric purchases MCA for US$6.6 billion, the largest ever Japanese purchase of a US company.
  • 2004 - An oil tanker sppills as much as 1.8 million litres of crude oil into the Delaware River between Philadelphia and southern New Jersey, USA.
  • 2006 - US Judge James Robertson orders the US Treasury to change the dollar bill.
  • 2008 - Death of the oldest living person, Edna Parker of Shelbyville, Indiana, at age 115.
  • 2011 - The Mars Science Laboratory rover Curiosity, the most elaborate Martian exploration vehicle to date, is launched from the Kennedy Space Center. It is slated to land on Mars on August 5, 2012.
