- 1997 - Texas Instruments announces that it has created a manufacturing technique to create integrated circuits using copper wiring. This approach could lead to processors that are 10 times faster than today's chips, while using less power.
- 2001 - The US Federal Trade Commission issues a statement saying the games industry has "made substantial progress in ending the marketing of violent content to children".
- 1927 - The ninth Oswald the Lucky Rabbit film, Harem Scarem, premieres at Colony Theater in New York City.
- 1930 - The Mickey Mouse film Pioneer Days is released to theaters.
- 1931 - Disney completes the Mickey Mouse film Mickey's Orphans. Minnie Mouse and Pluto also appear.
- 1940 - The Screen Cartoonists Guild informs Disney it had collected cards from a majority of Disney employees, and would ask for recognition.
- 1941 - The Donald Duck film Chef Donald is released to theaters.
- 1958 - The ABC TV network airs the Walt Disney Presents TV show, featuring the film The Shot That Was Heard Around the World, which is the second half of the film Johnny Tremain.
- 1965 - The NBC TV network airs the Walt Disney's Wonderful World of Color show, featuring Summer Magic, part one.
- 1981 - The CBS TV network airs the Walt Disney show, entitled A Magical Disney Christmas.
- 1985 - The Skyfest celebration salute to Disneyland is held in Anaheim, California. A world record one million helium balloons is released over Disneyland.
- 1985 - Caicos issues ten postage stamps depicting various Disney characters in Mark Twain's Tom Sawyer, Detective, and The Brothers Grimm story Six Soldiers of Fortune.
- 1986 - Walt Disney Recognition Day is celebrated in the United States.
- 1987 - The Disney Channel airs the Disney Channel Premiere Film The Christmas Visitor.
- 1990 - The Espace Euro Disney preview center for Euro Disney open in France.
- 1990 - The film Euro Disney: Quand L'imaginaire devient réalité (When the Dream Becomes Reality) opens as a preview film at Espace Euro Disney.
- 1993 - The Disney Channel airs Bing!: His Legendary Years, a biography of Bing Crosby.
- 1994 - The Walt Disney Company creates the Disney Interactive division by merging the Disney Software division with the Walt Disney Television and Telecommunications division. The division will develop and license interactive multimedia products on CD-ROM for computers, and cartridges for Sega and Nintendo video game systems. The products will be distributed by Buena Vista Home Video.
- 1995 - Walt Disney Home Video releases the film The Santa Clause in the US on videocassette, and on laserdisc for US$29.99.
- 1997 - The Beauty and the Beast stage show opens in Stuttgart, Germany.
- 2008 - The Sleeping Beauty Castle walk-through attraction re-opens in Disneyland.

- 1939 - German submarine U-28 lays several mines off Swansea, England.
- 1941 - The German advance into Russia is halted 25 miles from Moscow due to snow and freezing temperatures.
- 1941 - Adolf Hitler orders a whole Fliegerkorps from Russia to the Mediterranean.
- 1941 - To date, Soviet forces have lost 2 million soldiers dead, 2 million taken prisoner, 14,000 aircraft, 20,000 guns, and 17,000 tanks.
- 1944 - British Bomber Command launches 94 Lancaster bombers against Hamm, Germany, destroying 39% of the built-up area. No planes are shot down.
- 1944 - Assault battalions of the Royal Canadian regiment and the Hastings and Prince Edward regiment attempt to establish a bridgehead on the Lamone river in Italy.
- 1944 - The Special Service Force, an elite unit made of Canadian and American troops, is disbanded.
- 1945 - In ths US, the Foreign Broadcast Intelligence Service of the Federal Communications Commission ceases operation. Since 1941, it recorded over 3.5 million words.
- 1996 - The A-Bomb Dome in Hiroshima, Japan, is named a World Heritage site. The dome and main structure of the Hiroshima Promotion Hall survived the atomic bomb blast of 1945.

- 1980 - The Bank of Canada opens the Canadian Currency Museum to the public, in Ottawa.
- 1995 - The Winnipeg branch of the Royal Canadian Mint begins striking new $2 coins for circulation.
- 1800 - Mint Director Elias Boudinot requests additional copper planchets from Birmingham coiner Matthew Boulton.
- 1968 - Assistant Treasury Secretary announces the Joint Commission on the Coinage recommends sale of 2.9 million silver dollars of the Treasury at minimum fixed prices.
- 2007 - Senator Sam Brownback of Kansas introduces S. 2417 to amend title 31 of the United States Code, to require the inscription "IN GOD WE TRUST" to appear on the obverse or reverse of Presidential dollar coins.
- 2008 - The US Mint officially launches the 2008 Martin Van Buren Presidential dollar coin at Van Buren's grave site in Kinderhook, New York.
