- 1993 - id Software releases the Doom game for MS-DOS to the public, via the ftp site on the University of Wisconsin's computer system. The game's name was inspired by a scene in the movie The Color of Money.
- 1993 - SunSoft (a subsidiary of Sun Microsystems) ships the first version of WABI, providing Microsoft Windows application compatibility on Solaris, Intel, and Sparc versions of UNIX.
- 1993 - Paramount Pictures releases the film Wayne's World 2 to theaters in the USA. A character in the film wears an Amiga Video Toaster t-shirt.
- 1994 - Netscape Communications serves notice of its lawsuit against Spyglass and the University of Illinois.

- 1932 - The Silly Symphony film Santa's Workshop is released to theaters. The film was produced in color.

- 1967 - The NBC TV network airs the Walt Disney's Wonderful World of Color show, featuring A Boy Called Nuthin', part one.
- 1969 - Disney releases the live-action and animated short film It's Tough to be a Bird to theatres.

- 1996 - Disney releases the film The Rock on videocassette for US$107.11, and on laserdisc for US$39.99.
- 1999 - An official agreement is signed between the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region government and the Walt Disney Company regarding the building and operating of Hong Kong Disneyland.
- 1999 - Disney releases the Touchstone Pictures live-action feature film Deuce Bigalow: Male Gigolo to theaters in the USA.
- 2010 - Disney Cruise Line takes possession of the Disney Dream cruise ship from the Meyer Werft shipyard in Bremerhaven, Germany.
- 1952 - A work order assigns Corvette chassis #853 (originally requested in July) to become a second Corvette show car. Test work scheduled for #853 is reassigned to #856.
- 1959 - The Corvette assembly line restarts with a renewed supply of metal parts.
- 1939 - The first Canadian troop convoy leaves Halifax destined for Britain. 7400 men of the 1st Canadian Infantry Division leave on five ocean liners, escorted by Royal Canadian Navy destroyers Ottawa, Restigouche, Fraser, and St. Laurent.
- 1939 - Vidkun Quisling of Norway meets with Adolf Hitler and many others in Berlin, over eleven days. They agree that Germany should aid Quisling and his Nazi party to seize control of Norway at a favorable moment.
- 1939 - Finland asks "all civilized nations for help".
- 1940 - At Sidi Barrani, Egypt, the Indian 4th Division with two tank regiments from British 7th Armored Division capture thousands of Italian soldiers.
- 1940 - Wilhelm Keitel issues a brief order stating that Operation Felix, the capture of Gibraltar, would not be carried out at this time, as Spanish leader Francisco Franco refused to allow a German invasion of Spain.
- 1940 - Adolf Hitler issues Directive No. 19: "Undertaking Attila", detailing plans to occupy more of France if French forces in colonies show signs of revolt. Preparations are to be made to prevent the French fleet sailing to British hands, and to take control of French airports.
- 1940 - Adolf Hitler orders German air units to Southern Italy, to attack British ships in the Mediterranean.
- 1941 - (dawn) Japanese troops land on Aparri, Gonzaga, and Pandon.
- 1941 - (1045 hours) 26 Japanese bombers make a third run over Wake Island, two being shot down.
- 1941 - The German siege of Tobruk is broken by troops of British General Sir Claude Auchinleck.
- 1941 - The Soviet Union launches a large-scale offensive along the eastern front against Germany.

- 1941 - Japanese bombers and fighters again attack the Philippine island of Luzon, this time focusing on the major US Naval base near Manila. Nichols Field is heavily damaged, and Cavite is nearly destroyed. 12 P-35 planes are destroyed on the ground at Del Carmen. Over 15 P-40 fighters are lost.

- 2010 - Electronic Arts releases the Medal of Honor video game for the PlayStation 3 in the US.
- 2011 - Nintendo releases the Circle Pad Pro for the Nintendo 3DS in Japan. The accessory adds a second analog Circle Pad controller, and a second set of shoulder buttons. Price is 1500 yen (US$20).
- 1317 - At the Castle of Nyköping in Södermanland, King Birger has his brothers Erik and Valdermar as guests for a banquet. Following the banquet, he has them imprisoned, in revenge for their imprisonment of him in 1306, and his desire to rule all of Sweden again.
- 1809 - Peace is concluded with Denmark.
- 1810 - Prince Karl Johan's wife Desirée and their 11-year old son Oskar arrive in Sweden from Paris.
- 1896 - Alfred Nobel dies. Over his lifetime, 355 patents had been registered in his name, and he owned 93 factories around the world.
- 1976 - In Stockholm, King Carl XVI Gustaf hands out awards for Nobel prizes. All five awards this year are won by seven Americans.
- 1985 - The Swedish Mint issues a 100-kr 0.925 fine silver coin, in honor of the International Year of the Forest. Mintage is limited to 120,000 pieces.
- 1985 - The Canadian government declares Swedish diplomat Raoul Wallenberg to be an honorary Canadian citizen.
- 1993 - Paramount Pictures releases the film Wayne's World 2 to theaters in the USA. A character in the film says she is from Sweden. A humorously accented discussion of where she is from ensues.
- 1858 - "Letters Patent" makes legal tender the silver 5c, 10c, and 20c pieces, and copper cent.
- 1981 - A proclamation authorizes the issue of bronze 1c coins, weight 2.5 grams, 12-sided, effective January 1, 1982.
- 1981 - A proclamation changes the composition of the 5c coin to 75% copper, 25% nickel (cupro-nickel), with weight 4.6 grams, effective January 1, 1982.
- 1942 - Bureau of the Mint suspends cent coinage due to anticipated changes from Congressional legislation.
