Personal computer history:

  • 1983 - In the 1:00 AM sign-off slot of KMVT television station in Twin Falls, Idaho, Apple Computer runs its 1984 Macintosh ad, solely to make the ad eligible for awards during 1984. Cost of running the ad: $10.
  • 1999 - Microsoft releases Windows 2000 to computer manufacturers.

Walt Disney Company history:

  • 1923 - Disney ships the film Alice's Day at Sea to M.J. Winkler Productions.
  • 1924 - M.J. Winkler Productions releases the Alice Comedy film Alice the Piper to theaters.
  • 1925 - M.J. Winkler Productions releases the Alice Comedy film Alice in the Jungle to theaters.
  • 1932 - Disney publishes the last issue of the Official Bulletin of the Mickey Mouse Club.
  • 1934 - The Mickey Mouse film Two-Gun Mickey is released to theaters. Minnie Mouse also appears.
  • 1938 - Walt Disney meets with Sidney Franklin, holder of rights to the Bambi story for an extended story session. Then Disney makes an announcement to press postponing the film, doing Pinocchio in its place.
  • 1950 - The Donald Duck film Out on a Limb is released. Chip 'n' Dale also appear.
  • 1954 - The ABC TV network airs the Disneyland TV show, featuring the first "Davy Crockett" episode, Davy Crockett, Indian Fighter.
  • 1958 - The Junior Autopia attraction at Disneyland closes for major remodelling.
  • 1963 - The NBC TV network airs the Walt Disney's Wonderful World of Color show, featuring Pollyanna, part three.
  • 1966 - At 9:30 AM in St. Joseph's Hospital, Walt Disney dies of acute circulatory collapse, caused by lung cancer, at age 65. He had won more than 950 honors and citations worldwide, including 31 Oscars and seven Emmys.
  • 1966 - Roy O. Disney, president of Walt Disney Productions, is named chairman. Donn Tatum becomes president, and Card Walker is appointed executive vice president for operations.
  • 1968 - The NBC TV network airs the Walt Disney's Wonderful World of Color show, entitled The Owl That Didn't Give a Hoot.
  • 1972 - Construction begins on the Space Mountain attraction at Walt Disney World.
  • 1973 - The Pirates of the Caribbean attraction opens in Adventureland in the Magic Kingdom at Walt Disney World.
  • 1985 - Michael Eisner and French Prime Minister Laurent Fabius sign a letter of intent to build a Disney theme park on 4400 acres at Marne-la-Vallée, twenty miles east of Paris, France.
  • 1987 - The film Magic Journeys opens in the Fantasyland Theater in the Magic Kingdom at Walt Disney World.
  • 1989 - The Star Tours attraction opens in the Disney-MGM Studios park.

  • 1992 - St. Vincent issues eleven postage stamps depicting scenes from Symphony Hour.

  • 2002 - The Fox Broadcasting Company airs The Simpsons TV show in the US.
    • The episode title "The Great Louse Detective" is a reference to the Disney film The Great Mouse Detective.
    • A mother says a prison isn't a good place to bring children. A child says "It still beats Disney's California Adventure". The other family members agree.

  • 2003 - The Mary Poppins stage show opens in London, England.
  • 2009 - Disney releases The Wizards of Waverly Place: The Movie on DVD in the US.
  • 2009 - The D Street shop opens at Downtown Disney District at Disneyland.
  • 2009 - Disney releases G-Force on DVD in the US.

World War II history:

  • 1939 - Finns wreck metal mines and withdraw from Salmijärvi.
  • 1940 - British forces drive Italians out of Egypt, and invade Libya.
  • 1941 - American submarine Swordfish sinks Japanese ship Atsutasan Masu off Hainan Island.
  • 1941 - As part of Mediterranean Convoy HG76, Australian destroyer Nestor sinks German submarine U127 off Cape St. Vincent.
  • 1943 - (1200 hours) In Italy, sixteen American tanks attempt to advance into San Pietro. A few hours later, four surviving tanks withdraw. Seven were destroyed, five immobilized.
  • 1944 - (evening) 341 British bombers attack Ludwigshafen, Germany, inflicting great damage.
  • 1995 - Philippines issues five postage stamps marking the 50th anniversary of various events at the end of the war in the Philippines.
  • 2005 - Bosnia & Herzegovina issues a postage stamp commemorating the 60th anniversary of the liberation of the Jasenovac concentration camp.

Swedish history:

  • 1988 - Christer Pettersson is charged with the murder of Olof Palme.

Canadian coin history:

  • 1977 - The Royal Canadian Mint produces a 16 mm diameter one-cent test token. It is soon discovered to be interchangeable with a higher valued Toronto Transit Commission token.

USA coin history:

  • 1795 - US Senate confirms appointment of Elias Boudinot as Mint Director.
  • 1851 - US Senate passes legislation to establish a Branch Mint in San Francisco.
  • 1882 - Philadelphia Mint superintendent Snowden sends 25 5-cent pattern coins to Mint Director Horatio Burchard. The designs include head of Liberty, USA, and date on one side, and wreath "V" and motto on other.
  • 1912 - Philadelphia Mint Superintendent John Lands receives a letter from Mint Director George Roberts instructing that 1913 5-cent coinage would be exclusively Buffalo/Indian designs, no Liberty Head type permitted.
  • 2006 - US Treasury imposes a ban on melting 1-cent and 5-cent coins.
  • 2008 - US Treasury Secretary Hank Paulson unveils the designs to be used on the 2009 quarter dollar coins honoring the District of Columbia and the five territories.
  • 2011 - Representative Steve Stivers of Ohio introduces H.R. 3693, the "Cents and Sensibility Act", in the House of Representatives, calling for the one-cent coin to be made of steel.
  • 2011 - Representative Steve Stivers of Ohio introduces H.R. 3694, the "Saving Taxpayer Expenditures by Employing Less Imported Nickel Act", in the House of Representatives, calling for the five-cent coin to be made of steel.

  • 1891 - James Naismith invents basketball (Canada).
  • 1894 - Cricket day two first T Australia versus England; Australia 586 (Gregory 201) England 3-130.
  • 1909 - Thomas J Lynch becomes president of baseball's National League.
  • 1925 - First hockey game at Madison Square Garden, Montreal Canadiens 3, New York Americans 1.
  • 1930 - Donald Bradman takes his first Test Cricket wicket (Ivan Barrow, West Indies, lbw).
  • 1933 - Baseball owners agree to ban Sunday doubleheaders until after June 15.
  • 1935 - Detroit Lions win NFL championship.
  • 1946 - Chicago Bears beat New York Giants 24-14 in NFL championship game.
  • 1946 - New York Giants' Frank Filchock and Merle Hapes are suspended by NFL, because they didn't report bribe attempt.
  • 1950 - Ezzard Charles knocks out Nick Barone to retain heavyweight boxing title.
  • 1954 - Fordham University scraps football team for financial reasons.
  • 1965 - William Eckert replaces Ford Frick as fourth commissioner of baseball.
  • 1966 - John W Mecom Junior becomes first owner of the New Orlean Saints.

  • 1992 - Arthur Ashe is named Sports Illustrated Sportman of Year.
  • 1994 - Diane Modahl banned from athletics for drug use, in the United Kingdom.
  • 1995 - The European Court of Justice rules that all EU football players have the right to a free transfer between European Union member states at the end of their contracts.
  • 1996 - Dottie Pepper and Juli Inkster win LPGA Diner's Club Golf Matches.
  • 1996 - Jim Colbert and Bob Murphy win Diner's Club Senior PGA Golf Matches.
  • 1996 - Tom Lehman and Duffy Waldoff win Diner's Club PGA Golf Matches.
  • 1997 - San Francisco 49ers retire Joe Montana's #16.
  • 2021 - At Honda Center in Anaheim, California, USA, NHL regular season game: Anaheim Ducks beats Seattle Kraken by score 4-1.

  • 1791 - First US law school established at University of Pennsylvania.
  • 1791 - US Bill of Rights (first 10 Amendments to Constitution) is ratified as Virginia gives its approval.
  • 1792 - First life insurance policy issued in US (Philadelphia).

  • 1826 - William Browser, revolting slave, is executed in New York City, New York.
