Since 1995, I have been collecting information on a variety of topics, creating several timelines of history. Personal computer history:

  • 1977 - Computer Shack hires John Martin (Musumeci) as Director of Franchise Sales.
  • 1984 - Lotus Development introduces the Symphony software application, a hopeful successor to Lotus 1-2-3. Symphony adds word processing, communications, and expanded record keeping to the features of Lotus 1-2-3. Price is to be US$695 when released.
  • 1995 - US District Court Judge Stanley Sporkin rejects the consent decree settlement worked out between Microsoft and the Department of Justice, regarding Microsoft's alleged unfair trade practices. He claims the proposed settlement does not go far enough in addressing Microsoft's licensing practices, and is not in the public interest.
  • 1996 - Microsoft releases the Windows 95 Service Pack 1 operating system update.
  • 1997 - Intel announces the release name of the P6 processor code-named Klamath: Pentium II.

Walt Disney Company history:

  • 1929 - In New York, Walt Disney signs an agreement with Pat Powers for the use of his Cinephone sound system. Disney will pay 25 cents per foot of negative film, and $13,000 licensing fee per year for ten years for use of the Cinephone sound system.
  • 1941 - The Mickey Mouse film The Little Whirlwind is released to theaters. Minnie Mouse also appears.
  • 1946 - Disney delivers the film The Building of a Tire to Firestone Tire and Rubber Company.
  • 1950 - The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences nominates the film Toy Tinkers for an Oscar Award in the category Short Subjects, Cartoons.
  • 1957 - Disney releases the eighth People and Places film, The Blue Men of Morocco, to theaters.
  • 1967 - The Pirate's Arcade Museum opens in New Orleans Square.
  • 1971 - The NBC TV network airs The Wonderful World of Disney show, featuring Bayou Bay, part two.
  • 1976 - The NBC TV network airs NBC All-Disney Night at the Movies featuring Old Yeller, A Country Coyote Goes Hollywood, and Pecos Bill.
  • 1984 - CBS airs the TV special Disney's All-Star Valentine Party.
  • 1986 - The NBC TV network airs Disney's DTV Valentine.
  • 1990 - The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences nominates the film Dead Poets Society for an Oscar Award in the category Best Picture.
  • 1990 - The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences nominates Robin Williams for his role in the film Dead Poets Society for an Oscar Award in the category Actor.
  • 1990 - The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences nominates Peter Weir for his role in the film Dead Poets Society for an Oscar Award in the category Directing.
  • 1990 - The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences nominates the film Dead Poets Society for an Oscar Award in the category Writing, Screenplay Written Directly for the Screen.
  • 1990 - The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences nominates the film Blaze for an Oscar Award in the category Cinematography.
  • 1990 - The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences nominates the film The Little Mermaid for an Oscar Award in the category Music, Original Score.
  • 1990 - The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences nominates the song "Kiss the Girl" from the film The Little Mermaid for an Oscar Award in the category Music, Original Song.
  • 1990 - The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences nominates the song "Under the Sea" from the film The Little Mermaid for an Oscar Award in the category Music, Original Song.
  • 1991 - The Gambia issues eleven postage stamps depicting scenes from The Sword in the Stone.
  • 1992 - Disney releases the animated film The Jungle Book on laserdisc for US$30-40.
  • 1995 - Nevis issues ten postage stamps depicting various Disney characters and Valentines.
  • 1997 - Buena Vista Pictures releases the Walt Disney Pictures live-action feature film That Darn Cat to theaters in the USA. The film is a remake of the 1965 film.
  • 1999 - The first Disney Cruise Line wedding occurs on Castaway Cay.
  • 2000 - The WB Network airs the last Brutally Normal TV show.
  • 2000 - The New True-Life Adventure TV show Alaska: Dances of the Caribou airs in syndication.
  • 2003 - Disney releases the animated feature film The Jungle Book 2 to theaters in the US.
  • 2005 - The Fox Broadcasting Company airs The Fairly Oddparents TV show in the US. An amusement park has a ride called "It's a Dull World Ride", a reference to Disneyland's It's a Small World attraction.
  • 2009 - The American Idol Experience opens in Disney's Hollywood Studios at Walt Disney World.

Chevrolet Corvette history:

  • 1953 - The General Motors Motorama show is on display in Miami, Florida, for nine days.
  • 1999 - The Fox Broadcasting Company airs The Simpsons TV show in the US. A picture of a car on a calendar appears to be a red 1991-96 Corvette convertible.
  • 2003 - In Chicago, Illinois, the Chicago Auto Show is held, over ten days. IntelliChoice awards the 2003 Corvette convertible best value in Sport class.

World War II history:

  • 1939 - The German battleship Bismarck is first launched.
  • 1940 - A German submarine torpedoes and sinks Blue Star liner Sultan Star 200 miles west-south-west of Land's End. British destroyers then sink the submarine.
  • 1940 - Winston Churchill announces an Admiralty policy of arming trawlers, to protect them from enemy attacks.
  • 1941 - Lead elements of three Italian divisions leave Tripoli, heading toward Sirte.
  • 1941 - The first German troops of the new Africa Corps arrive at Tripoli.
  • 1941 - The Australian Advisory War Council makes a press statement to inform the public of the country's poor defence situation.
  • 1941 - Singapore's leader Brooke-Popham meets with the Australian War Cabinet. He says that Singapore is designed to withstand an attack for six to nine months, and a landward attack is not likely.
  • 1942 - A Directive from the British War Cabinet instructs Bomber Command to shift the primary emphasis of its attacks to specific industrial areas, including Essen, Duisburg, Düsseldorf, and Cologne.
  • 1942 - (0830 hours) 1700 Japanese paratroopers land near Palembang and land at Banka, capturing the airfield.
  • 1942 - Dutch destroyer Van Ghont strikes a reef in the Gaspar Strait and is scuttled.
  • 1943 - Near Tunisia, the German 21st Panzer Division launches an attack from Faid toward Sbeitla.
  • 1943 - Field Marshal Erich von Manstein is moved from Commander Army group Don to Commander Army group South.
  • 1943 - (evening) 142 British Lancaster bombers attack Milan, Italy. At least 27 factories are destroyed. Two planes are shot down.
  • 1944 - Adolf Hitler orders a heavy counter-attack on Anzio, Italy.
  • 1945 - (about 0130 hours) 529 more British Lancaster bombers arrive over Dresden, dropping 1700 tons of bombs around the edges of the fire. Over 1680 acres are destroyed in the city centre, over 86,000 houses destroyed or damaged, 20,000 to 25,000 killed.
  • 1945 - 311 American B-17 bombers attack the marshalling yards at Dresden.
  • 1945 - 294 American B-17 bombers attack rail targets at Chemnitz.
  • 1945 - In the harbor of Ostend, Belgium, a gasoline spill ignites among British and Canadian patrol boats. Torpedoes and other ammunition explode, destroying boats and harbor structures. 26 Canadian and 35 British sailors are killed and most boats of 29th Motor Torpedo Boat Flotilla are destroyed.
  • 1945 - (evening) 329 British bombers attack Chemnitz.
  • 1945 - (evening) A second wave of 388 British bombers attack Chemnitz.

Video game history:

  • 2001 - British manufacturer Pace Micro Technology releases pictures and some details of its television set-top box. The system will be able to play Sega Dreamcast video games.
  • 2001 - Nintendo announces the release dates of the Game Boy Advance: March 21 in Japan, and June 11 in the US.
  • 2002 - Capcom releases the Maximo: Ghosts to Glory video game for the PlayStation 2 in the US.
  • 2003 - Nintendo releases the Game Boy Advance SP in Japan. Internally it is the same as the Game Boy Advance. New features include rechargeable battery and flip-up 2.9-inch color LCD screen with built-in front lighting. The rechargeable lithium-ion battery powers the system for about 10 hours with the light on, or about 18 hours without. Size is 3.33 x 3.23 x 1 inches; weight is 5 ounces.
  • 2004 - Nintendo releases the Game Boy Advance SP in classic NES-controller style colors in Japan.
  • 2005 - Nintendo releases the WarioWare: Touched! video game for the Nintendo DS in the USA.
  • 2005 - The Fox Broadcasting Company airs The Fairly Oddparents TV show in the US. A character plays the home video game version of a TV show on a "V-CUBE" video game system, a reference to the Nintendo GameCube.
  • 2006 - EA Sports releases the Fight Night: Round 3 video game for the PlayStation 2, PlayStation Portable, and Xbox 360 in the US.
  • 2006 - Capcom releases the Resident Evil: Deadly Silence video game for the Nintendo DS in the US.
  • 2006 - Capcom releases the Final Fight: Streetwise video game for the PlayStation 2 and Xbox in the US.
  • 2006 - Atari releases Marc Ecko's Getting Up: Contents Under Pressure video game for the Xbox and PlayStation 2 in the US.
  • 2006 - Square Enix releases the Grandia III video game for the PlayStation 2 in the USA.
  • 2011 - Square Enix releases the Dragon Quest VI: Realms of Revelation video game for the Nintendo DS in the US.
  • 2012 - Sony Computer Entertainment releases the Twisted Metal video game for the PlayStation 3 in the US.

Swedish history:

  • 1952 - (to February 25) The 6th Olympic Winter Games are held in Oslo, Norway. Sweden wins 4 bronze medals.

Canadian coin history:

  • 1985 - The government establishes a House of Commons committee to study a proposal to produce a new smaller dollar coin. The report is due June 14.

USA coin history:

  • 2008 - Heritage Auction Galleries conducts auction in Long Beach, California. Some highlights:
    • 1838-O half dollar, reeded edge, PR-63 PCGS: $632,500;
    • 1796 half dollar, 15 stars, MS-63 NGC: $373,750;
    • 1793 cent, Liberty Cap, AU-55 PCGS: $632,500;
    • 1794 cent, head of 1795, MS-67 red and brown PCGS: $488,750;
    • 1794 cent, starred reverse, AU-50 PCGS: $632,500.

  • 2008 - The US Mint releases the 2008 James Monroe Presidential dollar coin to circulation.

Sports history:

  • 1887 - Chicago Cubs sell Mike King Kelly to Boston for record $10,000.
  • 1890 - First New South Wales versus South Australia first-class cricket game.
  • 1896 - South Africa all out for 30 versus England in cricket- their lowest ever.
  • 1896 - Stanley Cup of hockey: Winnipeg Victorias beat Montréal Victorias, 2-0.
  • 1931 - Donald Bradman scores 152 Australia versus West Indies, 154 minutes, 13 fours two fives.
  • 1932 - South Africa all out for 36 in first innings versus Australia (Bert Ironmonger 5-6).
  • 1934 - NHL Ace Bailey Benefit Game: Toronto Maple Leafs beats All-Stars 7-3 in Toronto, Ontario, Canada.
  • 1936 - US female Figure Skating championship won by Maribel Vinson.
  • 1936 - US male Figure Skating championship won by Robin Lee.
  • 1950 - Moroney scores cricket twin centuries for Australia at Johannesburg.
  • 1951 - Sugar Ray Robinson defeats Jake LaMotta and takes middleweight title.
  • 1952 - (to February 25) The VI Olympic Winter Games are held in Oslo, Norway.
  • 1954 - Beverly Hanson wins LPGA Saint Petersburg Golf Open.
  • 1956 - Verhoeven/Nauta/De King/Wijnhout win Dutch 11 city skate.
  • 1957 - Georgia Senate unanimously approves Senator Leon Butts' bill barring blacks from playing baseball with whites.
  • 1960 - Beverly Hanson wins LPGA Saint Petersburg Golf Open.
  • 1961 - Louise Suggs wins LPGA Royal Poinciana Golf Invitational.
  • 1966 - Wilt Chamberlain breaks NBA career scoring record at 20,884 points.
  • 1978 - In girls' US high school basketball, Chicago Latin beats Harvard Saint George.
  • 1982 - Hollis Stacy wins LPGA S&H Golf Classic.
  • 1984 - British ice dancers Jayne Torvill and Christopher Dean score 12 perfect 6.0s for their interpretation of Ravel's Bolero in the 1984 Winter Olympics. They win the gold medal for ice dancing.
  • 1987 - 53,745 largest NBA crowd to date - Philadelphia 76ers at Detroit Pistons.
  • 1988 - 49th PGA Seniors Golf Championship: Gary Player.
  • 1988 - Bobby Allison at age 50 becomes oldest driver to win Daytona 500.
  • 1988 - Patty Sheehan wins LPGA Sarasota Golf Classic.
  • 1991 - National League Cy Young winner Doug Drabek wins record US$3 million salary arbitration.
  • 1992 - Andre Cason runs world record 60 metre indoor (6.41 seconds).
  • 1992 - Kieren John Perkins, swims world record 800 metre freestyle (7 minutes 46.60 seconds).
  • 1992 - Merlene Ottey runs world record 60 metre indoor (6.96 seconds).
  • 1994 - Alexander Golubev skates Olympics record 500 metre (36.33).
  • 1995 - Wellington 2-498d and 4-475 beat Canterbury 496 and 2-476d.
  • 2009 - Mike Green of the Washington Capitals sets an NHL record for a defenceman by scoring in his eighth consecutive game.
  • 2020 - UEFA announces it will expel Manchester City football from Europe's continental football contests, for the next two years, for Emirah corporate sponsors improperly subsidizing the club.
  • 2022 - At SAP Center in San Jose, California, USA, NHL regular season game: Edmonton Oilers beats San Jose Sharks by score 3-0.
  • 2022 - At Climate Pledge Arena in Seattle, Washington, USA, NHL regular season game: Toronto Maple Leafs beats Seattle Kraken by score 6-2.

  • 1990 - Perrier recalls 160 million bottles of sparkling water after traces of benzene, a carcinogen, are found in some.
  • 2008 - At Northern Illinois University, former student Stephen Kazmierczak fires over 50 shots, killing five students and himself, injuring 16 others.
  • 2018 - A school shooting occurs at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School in Parkland, Florida, killing 17 people and injuring 17.
