Personal computer history:

  • 1989 - In the TV show Friday the 13th, a Commodore PET computer appears.
  • 1996 - The Fox Broadcasting Company airs The Simpsons TV show in the US. A computer is used, and when the screen is shown, a window is titled "Untitled-1", and shows an animated wristwatch for a "please wait" symbol, like an early version of Microsoft Windows.

Walt Disney Company history:

  • 1938 - The Mickey Mouse film Boat Builders is released to theaters. Donald Duck, Minnie Mouse, and Goofy also appear.
  • 1962 - The NBC TV network airs the Walt Disney's Wonderful World of Color show, featuring Comanche, part two. This is half of the film Tonka.
  • 1963 - The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences nominates the film Bon Voyage for an Oscar Award in the category Sound.
  • 1963 - The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences nominates the film Bon Voyage for an Oscar Award in the category Costume Design, Color.
  • 1963 - The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences nominates the film Symposium on Popular Songs for an Oscar Award in the category Short Subjects, Cartoons.
  • 1965 - The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences nominates the film Mary Poppins for an Oscar Award in the category Best Picture. This is Disney's first Best Picture nomination.
  • 1965 - The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences nominates the film Mary Poppins for an Oscar Award in the category Writing, Screenplay - Based on Material from Another Medium.

  • 1981 - CBS and Walt Disney Productions agree to move Disney's shows to CBS for the 1981-82 season.
  • 1988 - NBC airs the TV special Disney's Totally Minnie.
  • 1991 - The Bearly Asleep shop in Frontierland in the Magic Kingdom at Walt Disney World closes.
  • 1991 - The Bearly Country shop in Frontierland in the Magic Kingdom at Walt Disney World closes.
  • 1997 - The Walt Disney Company holds its annual shareholders meeting in Anaheim, California. Michael Eisner says that hiring Michael Ovitz as president had been a personal error of judgement. 12 percent of shareholders oppose reappointment of the board of directors. Eisner's pay package is approved by almost 90%.
  • 2001 - The Fox Broadcasting Company airs the Futurama TV show in the US. A sign on a tour bus in Hollywood says "Star Tours", a reference to the Disneyland attraction.
  • 2004 - The California Public Employees Retirement Systems pension fund manager announces it would cast its votes against Michael Eisner at the upcoming shareholder meeting.
  • 2007 - The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences awards an Oscar (Achievement in Visual Effects) to John Knoll, Hal Hickel, Charles Gibson, and Allen Hall for the film Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man's Chest.
  • 2010 - The Walt Disney Pictures film Alice in Wonderland world premieres in London England.
  • 2013 - ABC Family TV network airs the final Bunheads TV show.
  • 2020 - Bob Chapek becomes CEO of Disney.

Chevrolet Corvette history:

  • 1952 - Life Magazine includes an article "Plastic Bodies for Autos" with several pages on the Glasspar fiberglass body-building process.
  • 1960 - In Havana, Cuba, the Grand Touring Sprint race is held. Finishing 1st is the #3 Camoradi U.S.A. Corvette driven by Jim Jeffords.

World War II history:

  • 1940 - The first squadron of the Royal Canadian Air Force lands in England.
  • 1943 - (evening) 337 British bombers attack Nuremberg, Germany. Nine planes are shot down.
  • 1944 - Over the day, the US 8th Air Force launches bomber attacks on the German cities of Augsburg, Stuttgart, Regensburg, and Brunswick.
  • 1944 - A German guided bomb hits British destroyer Inglefield, sinking it.
  • 1944 - (evening) About 600 British bombers attack Augsburg, Germany. Serious damage is done to the engineering works and aircraft components factory. 85,000 people are made homeless. About 21 planes are shot down.
  • 1945 - German 1st Battalion of the 26th Parachute Regiment lands in Breslau, to help defend the city.
  • 1945 - US 21st Bomber Command makes the first mass incendiary bomb raid on Tokyo.
  • 1945 - North of Florence, Italy, Canadian participation in fighting in Italy ends. Over 90,000 soldiers participated, with nearly 6,000 killed.
  • 1946 - In Yokohama, Japan, the former Japanese Army captain in charge of Fukuoka prisoner-of-war camps is convicted of committing and condoning atrocities against prisoners. He is sentenced to life in prison.
  • 1947 - Romania issues four postage stamps marking the February 10th signing of a peace treaty with Russia, Great Britain, and the United States of America.
  • 1947 - The Allied Control Council of Germany issues Law No. 46, disbanding Prussia.
  • 1982 - Luxembourg issues an 8-franc postage stamp depicting the National Monument of the Resistance and Deportation during World War II.

Swedish history:

  • 1645 - In the town of Brömsebro, peace negotiations are opened with Denmark.
  • 1976 - In Stockholm, Canada and Sweden sign an extradition treaty.
  • 2002 - Guyana issues 15 postage stamps marking the 100th anniversary of the Nobel Prizes.

USA coin history:

  • 1987 - Teletrade introduces sight-unseen third-party graded auctions.
  • 2000 - US President Bill Clinton signs into law Abraham Lincoln Bicentennial Commission Act, in part to consider minting of a Lincoln bicentennial cent.
  • 2008 - The House of Representatives votes to approve legislation H.R. 5478 authorizing the US Mint to strike and issue 2008 Sacagawea dollar coins in their original designs.

Sports history:

  • 1904 - Stanley Cup: Ottawa Silver Seven sweep Toronto Marlboroughs in two games.
  • 1924 - Marie Boyd scores 156 points in Maryland High School basketball game (163-3).
  • 1925 - US female Figure Skating championship won by Beatrix Loughran.
  • 1925 - US male Figure Skating championship won by Nathaniel Niles.
  • 1930 - George Headley completes twin tons in Test Cricket versus England (114 and 112).
  • 1933 - Major NFL rule changes: hash mark 10 yards in, posts on goal line.
  • 1933 - Thomas Yawkey purchases the Boston Red Sox.
  • 1940 - First televised (W2XBS, New York City) hockey game (New York Rangers versus Montreal Canadiens).
  • 1941 - Boston Bruins set NHL record of 23-game unbeaten streak (15-0-8).
  • 1951 - First Pan American Games open (Buenos Aires, Argentina).
  • 1951 - Babe Didrikson-Zaharias wins Orlando Florida 2 Ball Golf Tournament.
  • 1952 - VI Olympic Winter Games close at Oslo, Norway.
  • 1957 - US Supreme Court decides 6-3, baseball is only antitrust-exempt professional sport.
  • 1961 - Niagara ends Saint Bonaventura's 99-game home basketball win streak.
  • 1962 - Mike O'Hara completes a record 97th marathon.
  • 1964 - Cassius Marcellus Clay Junior (later Muhammad Ali) defeats world heavyweight boxing champ Sonny Liston in a seventh-round technical knockout before a crowd of 8,300 at the Convention Hall arena in Miami Beach, Florida.
  • 1969 - Pension plan for baseball is agreed to.
  • 1972 - Lopsided trade, Saint Louis Cardinals trade Steve Carlton to Philadelphia Phillies for Rick Wise.
  • 1977 - New Orleans' Pete Maravich sets NBA record for a guard with 68 points.
  • 1978 - Botham scores first Test Cricket century, 103 versus New Zealand Christchurch.
  • 1979 - Jane Blalock wins LPGA Orange Blossom Golf Classic.
  • 1981 - New York Islanders give up their most goals (11) versus Calgary Flames.
  • 1981 - Executive Board of Baseball Players' Association votes unanimously to strike on May 29 if the issue of free-agent compensation remains unresolved.
  • 1987 - LaMarr Hoyt is banned from US Major League Baseball for 1987, due to drug abuse.
  • 1989 - Dallas Cowboys fire coach Tom Landry after a 29-year career.
  • 1989 - Javed Miandad scores 271 versus New Zealand at Eden Park.
  • 1989 - Mike Tyson TKOs Frank Bruno in five rounds for heavyweight boxing title.
  • 1990 - Australia beats Pakistan 2-0 to win the Cricket World Series Cup.
  • 1991 - Andrew Jones scores twin Test Cricket tons versus Sri Lanka (122 and 100).
  • 1991 - Bruce McNall, Wayne Gretzky, and John Candy buy Canadian Football League's Toronto Argonauts.
  • 1993 - Florida Marlins introduce their mascot "Billy".
  • 1993 - Pakistan all out 43 versus West Indies, world one-day international record low.
  • 1994 - Phil Rizzuto elected to Baseball Hall of Fame.
  • 1995 - British heavyweight Nigel Benn hits Gerard McClellan in hospital.
  • 1995 - PBA National Championship Won by Scott Alexander.
  • 1996 - Rajindra Dhanraj takes 16-167 in match Trinidad versus Leeward Islands.
  • 2022 - At Honda Center in Anaheim, California, USA, NHL regular season game: Los Angeles Kings beats Anaheim Ducks by score 4-1.
  • 2022 - At Gila River Arena in Glendale, Arizona, USA, NHL regular season game: Arizona Coyotes beats Vegas Golden Knights by score 3-1.
  • 2022 - At Ball Arena in Denver, Colorado, USA, NHL regular season game: Colorado Avalanche beats Winnipeg Jets by score 6-3.
  • 2022 - At United Center in Chicago, Illinois, USA, NHL regular season game: Chicago Blackhawks beats New Jersey Devils by score 8-5.
  • 2022 - At Enterprise Center in Saint Louis, Missouri, USA, NHL regular season game: Saint Louis Blues beats Buffalo Sabres by score 5-3.
  • 2022 - At PNC Arena in Raleigh, North Carolina, USA, NHL regular season game: Carolina Hurricanes beats Columbus Blue Jackets by score 4-0.

Space exploration history:

  • 1969 - Mariner 6 launched for fly-by of Mars.
  • 1977 - Soyuz 24 returns to Earth.
  • 1979 - Soyuz 32 carries two cosmonauts to Salyut 6 space station.
  • 2007 - The European Space Agency confirms Rosetta's successful Mars trajectory fly-by.

USA history:

  • 1791 - President George Washington signs a bill into law establishing a national bank, with 20 year charter. The Bank is capitalized with US$10 million, with $8 million from private investors.
  • 1793 - First US cabinet meeting (at George Washington's home).
  • 1799 - First federal forestry legislation authorizes purchase of timber land.
  • 1799 - US Congress passes first federal quarantine legislation.
  • 1813 - Congress authorizes interest-bearing $100 treasury notes.
  • 1837 - First US electric motor-powered printing press patented by Thomas Davenport of Rutlant, Vermont.
  • 1839 - Seminole Indians and black allies shipped from Tampa Bay, Florida, to the West.
  • 1862 - Paper currency is introduced in the USA, as Congress passes the Legal Tender Act. US$150 million of United States Notes is authorized, of which $60 million is legal tender.
  • 1862 - US Congress establishes the US Bureau of Engraving and Printing.
  • 1863 - US President Abraham Lincoln signs the National Currency Act into law, creating national banking system, comptroller of currency, allowing qualified banks to issue government-sponsored paper money in the banks' names.
  • 1875 - Kiowa Indians under Lone Wolf (Guipago) surrender at Fort Sill.
  • 1879 - US Congress passes first Timberland Protection Act.
  • 1891 - Charles Foster takes office as Treasury Secretary.

  • 1977 - The Liberian-registered Hawaiian Patriot oil tanker catches fire in the Northern Pacific west of Honolulu, Hawaii, spilling 115 million litres of oil.
  • 1981 - US performs nuclear test at Nevada Test Site.
  • 1991 - Iraqi SCUD missile hits US barracks in Dhahran, Saudi Arabia, killing 29, injuring 99.
  • 1992 - Digital Equipment unveils the 64-bit Alpha processor architecture, with speed estimates of 150 million instructions per second.
  • 2005 - Wichita, Kansas police apprehend the so-called BTK serial killer Dennis Rader, 31 years after his first murder.
  • 2007 - The 79th Academy Awards ceremony, hosted by Ellen DeGeneres, takes place at the Kodak Theater in Hollywood. The Departed wins Best Picture.
  • 2022 - The U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention lifts its advisory on mask wearing in most public spaces.
