Personal computer history:

  • 1997 - Apple Computer formally unveils the 20th Anniversary Macintosh computer. It features flat-panel metal and leather design, television and FM radio tuners, special sound system with subwoofer, 12.1-inch active-matrix display, CD-ROM drive. Production will be limited to 12,000 units, in five countries: France, Germany, Japan, United Kingdom, and the United States. Price is US$7,500.
  • 2000 - The Fox Broadcasting Company airs the Futurama TV show in the US.
    • Characters virtually enter the Internet via America Online, where they are attacked by flying advertisements, and can walk into chat rooms.
    • A menu window is accessed, with "NEW / OPEN / CLOSE / DISGUISES" mimicing the style of the Mac OS.
    • Later, a video email window also mimics that of the Mac OS.

  • 2001 - Palm unveils the Palm m500 handheld computer. It features 160x160 resolution monochrome screen, Palm OS 4.0, lithium-polymer battery. Price is US$399.
  • 2001 - Palm unveils the Palm m505 handheld computer. It features 160x160 resolution 16-bit color screen, 8 MB RAM, Secure Digital slot, Palm OS 4.0, lithium-polymer battery. Price is US$449.
  • 2006 - The Fox Broadcasting Company airs The Simpsons TV show in the US. A "FeMac" computer appears, looking much like the Apple Computer "iMac". A female computer voice says "You've got mail", a reference to the America Online software.
  • 2009 - Microsoft launches the Internet Explorer 8 Web browser, following a year of public beta testing.

Walt Disney Company history:

  • 1928 - Universal Pictures releases the Oswald the Lucky Rabbit film Bright Lights to theaters.
  • 1946 - Disney delivers the educational film Bathing Time for Baby to Johnson & Johnson.
  • 1948 - The Mickey Mouse film Mickey Down Under is released. Pluto also appears.
  • 1953 - The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences awards an Oscar (Short Subjects, Two Reels) for the film Water Birds.
  • 1958 - The ABC TV network airs the Disneyland TV show, entitled Magic and Music.
  • 1959 - Buena Vista releases Disney's live-action feature film The Shaggy Dog to theaters. It cost US$1 million to make. This is Disney's first live-action comedy film. The film is based on the novel The Hound of Florence by Felix Salten.
  • 1959 - Disney releases the fifteenth People and Places film, Cruise of the Eagle, to theaters.
  • 1959 - Disney releases the live-action short film Nature's Strangest Creatures to theaters.
  • 1961 - The ABC TV network airs the Walt Disney Presents TV show, featuring "Daniel Boone: Episode IV. The Promised Land".
  • 1967 - The NBC TV network airs the Walt Disney's Wonderful World of Color show, featuring Atta Girl, Kelly! part three: The Seeing Eye.
  • 1972 - The NBC TV network airs The Wonderful World of Disney show, entitled Chango, Guardian of the Mayan Treasure.
  • 1978 - The NBC TV network airs The Wonderful World of Disney show, entitled Trail of Danger, part two.
  • 1988 - The Disney Channel airs the Disney Channel Premier Film Save the Dog.
  • 1988 - Disneyland is host to the first Blast to the Past celebration, with a parade, Main Street Hop show, Super Hooper Duper hula-hoop event, and original 1950s/60s entertainers.
  • 1989 - At Disneyland, the Skyway ride shuts itself off after riders in one car vigorously rocked it.
  • 1992 - The Parkside Wagon food location opens in Tokyo Disneyland.
  • 1995 - The Penny Arcade attraction in the Magic Kingdom at Walt Disney World closes.
  • 1995 - The House of Magic shop in the Magic Kingdom at Walt Disney World closes.
  • 1995 - The Disney Channel airs the Disney Channel Premiere Film The Old Curiosity Shop, part one.
  • 2000 - The TV show The Wonderful World of Disney features the film The Pooch and the Pauper.
  • 2000 - The Fox Broadcasting Company airs The Simpsons TV show in the US. A character hopes to make a fortune through a lawsuit over "the spider bite at Disneyland".
  • 2002 - Disney releases the animated film The Hunchback of Notre Dame II on videocassette and DVD in the US.
  • 2004 - The Disney Channel airs the Disney Channel Original Movie Going to the Mat/
  • 2006 - The Fox Broadcasting Company airs The Simpsons TV show in the US. A scene takes place at an old mill, with similarities to the Disney short film The Old Mill.

  • 1977 - In Sebring, Florida, the 12 Hours of Sebring race is held, round two of the Camel GT Challenge. Of 72 cars starting, 14 are Corvettes.

  • 2022 - At the Sebring International Raceway in Sebring, Florida, USA, the 70th Annual Mobil 1 Twelve Hours of Sebring race is held, round 2 of the IMSA WeatherTech Sportscar Championship series. Finishing 1st in GTD Pro class and 16th overall is the Corvette Racing #3 Corvette C8.R driven by Nicky Catsburg, Antonio Garcia, and Jordan Taylor.

World War II history:

  • 1939 - British Foreign Secretary Lord Halifax replies to Soviet Commissar Maxim Litinov, saying they were examining an alternative scheme to a five-country pact.
  • 1940 - In retaliation for the German air raid of Scapa Flow on March 16, British planes attack the German seaplane base at Hornum on Sylt island. Little damage is done.
  • 1940 - Adolf Hitler and Italian Premier Benito Mussolini meet at Brenner railway station for 2.5 hours.
  • 1941 - German General Erwin Rommel meets with Walther von Brauchitsch and Franz Halder, requesting two more panzer divisions in North Africa. The request is denied.
  • 1944 - German troops enter Budapest, Hungary.
  • 1945 - (0708 hours) A single Japanese dive bomber drops a 250kg bomb on USS Franklin carrier off the coast of Japan. The bomb pierces the deck, explodes causing a large fire and further explosions among shells, planes, and fuel. Over 5 hours, fifty 500-pound bombs explode from the fire. 798 dead, 487 wounded.
  • 1945 - Japanese forces evacuate Mandalay, Burma.
  • 1945 - British bombers attack the Arnsberg rail viaduct, linking the Ruhr with the rest of Germany. The center section is shattered, rendering it unuseable.
  • 1945 - US task force attacks Ryukyu Isialdns in preparation for Marine landings.
  • 1945 - In the Brandenburg Prison in Germany, General Erich Fromm is shot. He was convicted of cowardice for his part in the bomb plot against Adolf Hitler in July 1944.
  • 1945 - Adolf Hitler issues an order calling for the destruction of anything of value on retreat.
  • 1946 - In Budapest, Hungary, three members of Premier Ferenc Szalasy's government of October 1944 are hanged in the jail courtyard: Deputy Prime Minister Eugen Szoelloesi, Foreign Minister Baron Gabriel Kemeny, and Regent Council member Sandor Csia.
  • 1946 - In Paris, France, Marcel Bucard, leader of the French Blue Shirt Fascists, is executed by firing squad.
  • 1946 - In The Hague, Netherland, a court sentences to 18 years in prison Doctor J.H. Carp, president of the German occupation Peace Court.

  • 1993 - Midway Amusement Games releases the Mortal Kombat video game Version 5.0 (T-Unit) to arcades in the US.
  • 1999 - In Chiba, Japan, the Tokyo Game Show Spring '99 is held, over three days. Over 160,000 visitors attend, a new record. Over 300 PlayStation games are on display.
  • 1999 - SNK releases the NeoGeo Pocket Color handheld video game system in Japan.
  • 2000 - The Fox Broadcasting Company airs the Futurama TV show in the US. In a virtual Internet world, a character jumps over barrels thrown by Donkey Kong, then zaps him with a laser gun.
  • 2002 - Sega releases the Virtua Fighter 4 video game for the PlayStation 2 in the US.
  • 2002 - EA Games releases the James Bond 007 in Agent Under Fire for the GameCube in the US.
  • 2003 - A research report by Bryan Raudenbush, an assistant professor of psychology at Wheeling Jesuit University in Wheeling, West Virginia, suggests that playing high-action video games reduces sensitivity to pain by distracting the player.
  • 2010 - The British Academy of Film and Television Arts (BAFTA) 2010 video game awards ceremony is held in England.

  • 1942 - Thoroughbred Racing Association of US formed in Chicago, Illinois.
  • 1945 - 800 killed as Kamikaze attack USS Franklin off Japan.
  • 1945 - US Task Force 58 attacks ships near Kobe/Kure.
  • 1949 - First museum devoted exclusively to atomic energy opens in Oak Ridge, Tennessee, USA.

  • 1989 - In the Mexican Gulf off Louisiana, the South Pass 60 oil drilling platform explodes, killing 7.
  • 1995 - Arizona begins using new area code 520 outside of Phoenix.
  • 1996 - A barge ruptures as it sails through the Houston Ship Channel, spilling about 16,000 litres of fuel oil, creating an 8km oil slick in Galveston Bay, Texas.
  • 2000 - U.S. President Bill Clinton arrives in New Delhi, India, for a state visit.
  • 2003 - US President George Bush's 48-hour mandate for President Saddam Hussein and his sons to exit from Iraq expires. The first American cruise missiles and stealth bombers strike targets in Baghdad.
