Personal computer history:

  • 1993 - AT&T Graphics Software Labs closes. It had made PC and Macintosh graphics software such as Topas, Rio, StudioMaster, Panorama, and Comet CG.
  • 1999 - Settlement talks between Microsoft and the US Department of Justice fail.
  • 2001 - Quantum sells its hard drive business to Maxtor. Quantum will continue operations selling storage products and services.
  • 2003 - The Fox Broadcasting Company airs The Simpsons TV show in the US.
    • A portable laptop computer is used to access the Internet.
    • A character, while watching a meteor shower at night, comments: "This is even better than our screen saver".

  • 2008 - The Fox Broadcasting Company airs The Simpsons TV show in the US. A personal computer appears, showing a Power Point presentation. Another computer appears in a bedroom.

Walt Disney Company history:

  • 1945 - The Donald Duck film The Eyes Have It is released to theaters. Pluto also appears.
  • 1955 - The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences awards an Oscar (Art Direction - Set Decoration, color) for the film 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea.
  • 1955 - The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences awards an Oscar (Special Effects) for the film 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea.
  • 1955 - The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences awards an Oscar (Documentary, Features) for the film The Vanishing Prairie.
  • 1981 - Anguilla issues ten postage stamps depicting various Disney characters in Easter outfits.
  • 1986 - The CBS TV network airs The CBS Easter Parade, which includes part of the Walt Disney World Easter Parade.
  • 1987 - The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences awards an Oscar (Best Actor) to Paul Newman for his role in the film The Color of Money.
  • 1989 - Disney sues the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences, for copyright and trademark violations over the use of a Snow White character used during the Oscar awards ceremony on March 29.
  • 1992 - Disney agrees to swap Los Angeles TV station KCAL-TV in exchange for 45% of Pinelands, Inc., which owns New York's WWOR-TV station.
  • 1992 - The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences awards an Oscar (Music, Original Song) to Howard Ashman and Alan Menken for the song "Beauty and the Beast" from the film Beauty and the Beast.
  • 1992 - The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences awards an Oscar (Music, Original Score) to Alan Menken for the film Beauty and the Beast.
  • 1992 - The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences awards an Oscar (Scientific and Technical, Scientific and Engineering Award) to the Walt Disney Feature Animation Department for the "CAPS" production system for feature film animation.
  • 1993 - The Disney Vacation Development Inc. company announces plans to build a 440-unit time-share resort in Florida, 95 miles south-east at Walt Disney World.
  • 1994 - Disney releases the laserdisc Tales from Avonlea Volume 3 for US$30. It includes The Witch of Avonlea and Nothing Endures but Change.
  • 1994 - Disney releases the laserdisc Tales from Avonlea Volume 4 for US$30. It includes How Kissing was Discovered and Aunt Heddy's Ordeal.
  • 1996 - The Mike Fink Keel Boats ride returns to operation in Frontierland at Disneyland, after closing in fall 1994.
  • 2001 - The Fox Broadcasting Company airs The Fairly Oddparents TV show in the US. The entire episode is about playing in a virtual reality video game. Characters in the game appear similar to those in the Disney film TRON.
  • 2003 - The first Walt Disney World In-Line Marathon is held, through Disney-MGM Studios, Disney's Boardwalk Resort, and Epcot.
  • 2004 - Touchstone releases the film Brother Bear on videocassette and DVD.
  • 2007 - Disney releases the animated film Meet the Robinsons to theaters in the US.

Chevrolet Corvette history:

  • 2001 - The Fox Broadcasting Company airs The Fairly Oddparents TV show in the US. A sports car resembles the styling of 1963-67 and 1968-82 Corvettes.
  • 2005 - TFM Distribution releases the film Brice de Nice to theaters in Belgium. A yellow 1973-77 Corvette appears briefly.
  • 2006 - In Palm Beach, Florida, the Barrett-Jackson Palm Beach Classic Car auction is held, over three days. Some highlights:

World War II history:

  • 1939 - The British and French governments guarantee Poland's independence.
  • 1941 - (evening) British Bomber Command begins concentrated attacks on German warships Gneisenau and Scharnhorst in Brest.
  • 1942 - Japanese forces capture Toungoo, Burma.
  • 1943 - The British 8th Army breaks the German Mareth Line in Tunisia.
  • 1944 - Adolf Hitler removes Erich von Manstein from command of Southern Army Group, on the eastern front.
  • 1944 - (evening) British Bomber Command sends 795 aircraft to bomb Nuremberg, Germany. The attack is ineffective, inflicting little damage. During their flight, about 200 German fighter planes shoot down 95 bombers. 540 crew are killed, 25 wounded, and 148 taken prisoner.
  • 1945 - Canadian forces clear Emmerich, Germany, of its defenders.
  • 1945 - Adolf Hitler issues a decree drafted by Albert Speer, calling for war production to continue until the last possible moment, then for facilities to be crippled if possible, or destroyed otherwise.
  • 1945 - Russian forces capture Danzig.
  • 1968 - The USSR issues two postage stamps honoring partisan heroes of the war.
  • 1995 - Palau issues 18 postage stamps depicting Japanese ships sunk during Operation Desecrate in 1944.
  • 2002 - The Office for German Ground Monument protection issues protected monument status to a stretch of the Siegfried Line, between Lammersdorf and Hargard, and another stretch from Hellenthal to Aachen.
  • 2007 - The Japanese givernment announces it had ordered student textbook publishers to delete passages saying the Japanese army forced civilians to commit suicide at the end of the battle of Okinawa.

Video game history:

  • 1994 - Nintendo announces an exclusive agreement with WMS Industries for video games for Nintendo's next-generation game system.
  • 2000 - Namco releases the Tekken Tag Tournament video game for the PlayStation 2 in Japan.
  • 2001 - The Fox Broadcasting Company airs The Fairly Oddparents TV show in the US. The entire episode is about playing in a virtual reality video game.
  • 2003 - The Fox Broadcasting Company airs the Futurama TV show in the US. Pacman characters with authentic movement sound are shown as "an oil-eating bacterium".
  • 2004 - Capcom releases the Resident Evil Outbreak video game for the PlayStation 2 in the US.
  • 2004 - Microsoft drops the price of the Xbox in the US from US$179.99 to US$149.99, and in Canada to CDN$199.99.

Canadian coin history:

  • 1994 - A Royal proclamation specifies that the design of a 1994 $1 bronze-plated nickel coin depict the National War Memorial monument in Ottawa.
  • 1999 - The Royal Canadian Mint releases the fourth Millennium 25c coin, entitled Our Northern Heritage.

USA coin history:

  • 1795 - The US Mint begins producing half dime coins with Robert Scot's Flowing Hair Liberty design.
  • 1944 - Philadelphia jeweler Israel Switt admits to Secret Service that he had sold nine $20 1933 gold coins.
  • 2009 - The US Mint releases the 2009 Commonwealth of Puerto Rico quarter dollar to circulation.
  • 2009 - The Denver and Philadelphia Mints begin production on the second 2009 Lincoln cent for circulation.

Sports history:

  • 1889 - John T Reid opens first US golf course (Yonkers, New York).
  • 1916 - Stanley Cup: Montreal Canadiens (NHA) beat Portland Rosebuds (PCHA), 3 games to 2.
  • 1918 - Stanley Cup: Toronto Arenas (NHL) beat Vancouver Millionaires (PCHA), 3 games to 2.
  • 1925 - Stanley Cup: Victoria Cougars (WCHL) beat Montréal Maroons (NHL), 3 games to 1.
  • 1940 - Second NCAA Men's Basketball Championship: Indiana University beats Kansas 60-42.
  • 1943 - 5th NCAA Men's Basketball Championship: University of Wyoming beat Georgetown 46-34.
  • 1946 - Australia beats New Zealand in cricket at 3:30pm on second day.
  • 1946 - Last Test Cricket appearance of Bill O'Reilly (5-14 and 3-19).
  • 1952 - Patty Berg wins LPGA New Orleans Women's Golf Open.
  • 1954 - Test Cricket debut of Garry Sobers versus England at Kingston.
  • 1969 - Kathy Whitworth wins LPGA Port Malabar Golf Invitational.
  • 1970 - USSR wins its 8th straight world hockey championship.
  • 1975 - Ron Lalonde scores the first hat trick by a Washington Capitals' player.
  • 1980 - Nancy Lopez wins LPGA Women's Kemper Golf Open.
  • 1981 - 43rd NCAA Men's Basketball Championship: Indiana beats North Carolina 63-50.
  • 1986 - 5th NCAA Women Basketball Championship: Texas beats Southern California 97-81.
  • 1988 - Tamil Nadu beats Railways by innings and 144 to win Ranji Trophy.
  • 1990 - Jack Nicklaus makes his debut in the "Seniors" golf tournament.

  • 2006 - Major League Baseball Commissioner Bud Selig appoints George Mitchell to head an investigation into the use of steroids in baseball.
  • 2022 - At Climate Pledge Arena in Seattle, Washington, USA, NHL regular season game: Vegas Golden Knights beats Seattle Kraken by score 3-0.
  • 2022 - At Gila River Arena in Glendale, Arizona, USA, NHL regular season game: Arizona Coyotes beats San Jose Sharks by score 5-2.
  • 2022 - At Rogers Arena in Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada, NHL regular season game: Saint Louis Blues beats Vancouver Canucks by score 4-3.

  • 2017 - SpaceX conducts the world's first reflight of an orbital class rocket.

USA history:

  • 1822 - US Congress combines East and West Florida into Florida Territory.
  • 1833 - A fire destroys the US Treasury building.
  • 1842 - First surgical operation using ether as anaesthetic (to remove a neck cyst), performed by Dr. Crawford Long on James Venable, in Jefferson, Georgia, USA.
  • 1858 - Pencil with attached eraser patented (Hyman L Lipman of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, USA).
  • 1864 - Skirmish at Mount Elba, Arkansas.
  • 1865 - Battle at Five Forks, Virginia.
  • 1867 - The Russian empire sells the Alaskan territory to the USA for US$7.2 million (2 cents per acre).
  • 1870 - 15th Amendment passes, guarantees right to vote regardless of race.
  • 1870 - Texas is re-admitted to USA.
  • 1889 - John T Reid opens first US golf course (Yonkers, New York).

  • 1950 - Phototransistor invention announced, in Murray Hill, New Jersey, USA.
  • 1952 - 6th Tony Awards: Fourposter and King and I win.
  • 1955 - 27th Academy Awards: On the Waterfront, Marlon Brando and Grace Kelly win.
  • 1961 - NASA civilian pilot Joseph A Walker takes X-15 169,600 feet (51,690 metres).
  • 1965 - In Rat Islands, Alaska, a magnitude 7.3 earthquake occurs. One of the largest earthquakes in the United States.
  • 1966 - The US Mint releases first 1965-dated copper-nickel clad Roosevelt dimes to circulation.
  • 1972 - US performs nuclear test at Nevada Test Site.
  • 1973 - Ellsworth Bunker resigns as US ambassador to South Vietnam.
  • 1981 - US President Ronald Reagan is shot in the chest outside the Washington Hilton Hotel in Washington, D.C., hotel. Six shots are fired, hitting Reagan, White House Press Secretary James Brady, Secret Service agent Timothy McCarthy, and District of Columbia policeman Thomas Delahaney. None is killed.

  • 1993 - Peanuts comic strip character Charlie Brown hits a baseball game-winning home run, his first in 43 years.
  • 2003 - Meigs Field Airport in Chicago, Illinois is demolished overnight.
  • 2009 - General Motors CEO Rick Wagoner is ordered to step down by US President Barack Obama.
  • 2022 - The U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention drops its cruise ship health travel notice.

Other history:

  • 1814 - Britain and allies march into Paris after defeating Napoleon.
  • 1842 - Ether is used as an anaesthetic for first time by Dr Crawford Long (in Jefferson, Georgia, USA.
