  • 2001 - Intel releases the 850 MHz Celeron processor. Price is US$138 in 1000-unit quantities.
  • 2006 - The Fox Broadcasting Company airs The Simpsons TV show in the US. A personal computer appears at a Department of Motor Vehicles.

Walt Disney Company history:

  • 1958 - The ABC TV network airs the Disneyland TV show, entitled An Adventure in the Magic Kingdom.
  • 1961 - The ABC TV network airs the Walt Disney Presents TV show, entitled Battle for Survival.
  • 1978 - The University of Southern California chapter of the Delta Kappa Alpha National Honorary Cinema Fraternity recognizes the "Nine Old Men" (Disney animators) with the "Pioneer in Film" award.
  • 1984 - Reliance Group Holdings now owns 8.3 percent of outstanding Disney stock.
  • 1987 - The Disney Traders shop opens in World Showcase Plaza in EPCOT Center.
  • 1989 - The NBC TV network airs The Magical World of Disney show, featuring Parent Trap III, part one.
  • 1990 - The Disney Channel begins airing the series Just Perfect.
  • 1992 - The Fox Broadcasting Company airs The Simpsons TV show. A scene shows a television show parody of Disney's Dinosaurs show. A Simpsons' character notes how similar the Dinosaur family is to the Simpson family. Also, a scene shows a woman in a bathtub slip under the water, similar to a scene in Disney's Pretty Woman.
  • 1995 - The Fox Broadcasting Company airs The Simpsons TV show in the US.
    • There are several references to Disney's One Hundred and One Dalmatians:
  • episode title is Two Dozen and One Greyhounds,
  • a pair of dogs have a lot of puppies (25), and
  • an evil character steals the puppies to make a coat of them.
    • Two dogs go to a restaurant, eat spaghetti and meatballs at a table, and a common strand of spaghetti brings their noses together, like in Lady and the Tramp.
    • Names of some dogs are names from Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs: Sleepy, Dopey, Grumpy.
    • A character sings song "See my vest" to the tune of "Be Our Guest" from Disney's Beauty and the Beast, and includes a maid like Mrs. Potts.

  • 1996 - Jeffrey Katzenberg files a lawsuit in Los Angeles Superior Court, claiming breach of his Disney contract, claiming he is owed as much as US$250 million for projects he developed at Disney.
  • 1997 - Disney Online opens the Disney Daily Blast Internet Web site for 10,000 visitors, aimed at children aged 3-12 years.
  • 1999 - UIP releases the Paramount Pictures / Touchstone Pictures live-action feature film A Civil Action to theaters in Great Britain.
  • 1999 - Buena Vista releases the Dimension Films live-action feature film The Faculty to theaters in Great Britain.
  • 2000 - The TV show The Wonderful World of Disney airs, presenting the two-hour movie Angels in the Infield.
  • 2002 - The ABC TV network airs the last The Court episode.
  • 2004 - Touchstone generally releases the live-action feature film The Alamo to theaters in the USA.

Chevrolet Corvette history:

  • 1956 - Chevrolet issues a new price list to dealers for the 1956 Corvette. The standard engine is 210-hp, with single carburetor.
  • 1957 - A fully-synchronized four-speed Borg-Warner transmission (RPO 685) is first made available on the 1957 model Corvette, as a US$188.30 option.
  • 1960 - At the Le Mans, France, 24-hour race circuit, a day of pre-race testing is held. A Briggs Cunningham #1 Corvette driven by Briggs Cunningham and Dick Thompson qualifies 1st in GT5.0 class, 6th overall.
  • 1983 - In Titusville, Florida, Eckler's Corvette Reunion is held, over two days.
  • 2002 - The Fox Network airs the TV show That '70s Show in the USA. A Silver Blue 1958 Corvette is the subject of the main storyline.
  • 2006 - At the Long Beach Street Circuit in Long Beach, California, the Toyota Grand Prix of Long Beach race is held, round three of the SPEED GT Championship series.
    • Finishing 4th is the LG Pro Long Tube Headers #28 Corvette C6, driven by Lou Gigliotti.
    • Finishing 9th is the #87 Corvette C6, driven by Tomy Drissi.
    • Finishing 13th is the #26 Corvette C6, driven by Claudio Burtin.

  • 2022 - At the Grand Prix of Long Beach raceway in Long Beach, California, USA, the Acura Grand Prix of Long Beach race is held, round 3 of the IMSA WeatherTech Sportscar Championship series. Finishing 3rd in GTD Pro class and 10th overall is the Corvette Racing #3 Corvette C8.R driven by Jordan Taylor and Antonio Garcia.

World War II history:

  • 1940 - (0410 hours) Germany launches Operation Weserubung, invading Denmark. Motorized troops cross the border into Denmark, as amphibious landings are made on Danish islands and on the waterfront of Copenhagen. The German envoy informs the Danish government that Denmark would be protected for the duration of the war, and no interference by German military authorities would be made in the country's internal affairs. Prime Minister Thorvald Stauning orders cessation of hostilities, twelve hours after the start.
  • 1940 - German forces land on Norway with six different forces at widely separated points on the coast. The German government claim the invasion is made to forestall a British invasion.
  • 1940 - (about 0500 hours) Norwegian coastal gun batteries and mines sink German heavy cruiser Blücher and light cruiser Karlsruhe near Oslo.
  • 1940 - (about 0600 hours) German aircraft fly over Copenhagen dropping leaflets announcing that Germany had taken Denmark under its protection due to British plans of aggression.
  • 1940 - (0620 hours) Danish King Christian X broadcasts to the nation that the government has surrendered to Germany.
  • 1940 - (0630 hours) In Norway, Vidkun Quisling speaks on Oslo Radio, urging Norwegians to cease further resistance. He deposes the legal government, and appoints himself Prime Minister.
  • 1940 - (0700-0730 hours) In Norway, the national authorities leave Oslo by train. Another train carries the country's gold reserves north.
  • 1940 - In Norway, German forces control Narvik, Trondheim, Bergen, and Stavanger.
  • 1940 - (about 1100 hours) The Norwegian coast defences at Kristiansand surrender.
  • 1940 - (about 1100 hours) German troops begin arriving in Oslo, Norway, by transport aircraft.
  • 1940 - British destroyer Gurkha is bombed and sunk by German aircraft near Bergen, Norway.

  • 1942 - American General Jonathan Wainwright's American and Filipino forces on Bataan, Philippines, surrender to the Japanese. 78,000 men are forced to march 65 miles from Mariveles to San Fernando.
  • 1944 - At the Sachsenhausen concentration camp in Germany, Dr. Hans von Dohnanyi is executed for several anti-Nazi offences.
  • 1944 - (evening) British bombers attack railway targets in Lille, France.
  • 1945 - (0600 hours) German Admiral Wilhelm Canaris is hanged for his role in anti-Nazi activities.
  • 1945 - In Italy, British 8th Army launches an attack in amphibious vehicles across Lake Comacchio.
  • 1945 - In Germany, Major General Hans Oster is executed at Flossenburg concentration camp, at age 56.
  • 1945 - (evening) 591 British bombers attack Kiel, Germany. They sink the pocket battleship Admiral von Scheer, and severely damage the light cruiser Emden and heavy cruiser Admiral Hipper.
  • 1955 - The German Democratic Republic issues two postage stamps marking the 10th anniversary of liberation.
  • 1973 - Philippines issues two postage stamps depicting a Philippine aviator fighting Japanese planes for the liberation of the Philippines.
  • 1982 - Philippines issues three postage stamps marking the 40th anniversary of the surrender of Bataan to the Japanese.
  • 1990 - Marshall Islands issues two postage stamps marking the 50th anniversary of the invasion of Denmark and Norway.

Canadian coin history:

  • 1998 - Construction begins on a new mint facility in Winnipeg, which will produce plated steel coins for circulation.
  • 2008 - The Desjardins Group financial services provider releases a study calling for the abolition of the 1-cent and 5-cent coins, replacing the 25-cent coin with a 20-cent coin, and issuing a $5 coin to replace the $5 bank note.

USA coin history:

  • 1796 - The Philadelphia Mint coins an initial 1,800 1796-dated Draped Bust quarter-dollar coins.
  • 1838 - Dies for dimes are shipped from the Philadelphia Mint to the New Orleans Mint.
  • 1886 - US House of Representatives votes to reject the free silver coinage bill.
