Personal computer history:

  • 1976 - Apple Computer co-founder Ron Wayne sells his share for US$800.
  • 1991 - Apple Computer's John Sculley demonstrates to IBM engineers an IBM PS/2 Model 70 running Apple's "Pink" object-oriented operating system, appearing to be Apple's System 7.0 operating system.
  • 2000 - IBM introduces the 32GB Travelstar hard drive for portable computers. It can hold 17 billion bits per square inch, a new record for hard drive areal density. The drive has a spin rate of 5400 RPM, and partially disables error correction allowing smoother video playback.

Walt Disney Company history:

  • 1938 - Walt's agent contacts Igor Stravinsky's publisher, asking for the film rights to "The Firebird".
  • 1945 - Disney delivers the film Prevention and Control of Distortion in Arc Welding to the Lincoln Electrical Company.
  • 1946 - The Pluto film Pluto's Kid Brother is released to theaters.
  • 1964 - The NBC TV network airs the Walt Disney's Wonderful World of Color show, featuring the film Jungle Cat.
  • 1987 - The ABC TV network airs The Disney Sunday Movie, entitled Bride of Boogedy. It is a sequel to the film Mr. Boogedy.
  • 1991 - The Grand Opening day of Euro Disneyland is announced: April 12, 1992.
  • 1992 - The Euro Disney Resort, featuring the Euro Disneyland park, opens in Marne-la-Vallée, France, east of Paris. The US$4 billion complex has six hotels with 5200 rooms, and is staffed by 14,000 "cast members". Euro Disneyland park has 29 attractions in five themed lands: Adventureland, Discoveryland, Fantasyland, Festival Disney, Frontierland, and Main Street. 500,000 visitors were expected, but only 50,000 are admitted on opening day.
  • 1992 - The Adventureland area at Euro Disneyland opens. It includes Pirates of the Caribbean attraction, Les Cabane des Robinson attraction, Adventure Isle area, Captain Hook's Galley restaurant, Blue Lagoon Restaurant, Aux Epices Enchantees restaurant, Café de la Brousse restaurant, and Explorer's Club restaurant.
  • 1992 - The Discoveryland area at Euro Disneyland opens. It includes Star Tours attraction, Orbitron - Machines Volantes attraction, Videopolis stage, Cinémagique theater showing the film Captain Eo, Café Hyperion restaurant, and Café des Visionnaires restaurant.
  • 1992 - The Fantasyland area at Euro Disneyland opens.   • 1992 - The Main Street area at Euro Disneyland opens.   • 1996 - The Gambia issues eight postage stamps depicting various Disney characters performing good deeds.
  • 1997 - The bow half of the Disney Magic cruise ship leaves drydock of Fincontieri shipyard in Ancona, Italy, to meet with the stern section 100 miles away in Marghera.
  • 2000 - Comedy Central airs the South Park TV show in the USA. Someone says "I wanna bust out too... and see Disneyland."
  • 2015 - The film Captain EO ceases playing in Disneyland Paris.

Chevrolet Corvette history:

  • 1977 - General Motors announces it is discontinuing research and development work on the rotary engine entirely.

World War II history:

  • 1940 - 23 Blenheim bombers, 36 Wellington bombers, and 24 Hampden bombers take off from airfields in Britain to attack German ships off Kristiansand. Only one finds a target, and is unsuccessful in bombing it. Nine planes are lost, at a cost to Germany of five planes.
  • 1941 - The German government demands the Danish Government try Minister Henrik de Kaufmann for treason for negotiating the treaty with the United States for protection of Greenland, and to announce that the Danish government is not bound by the treaty.
  • 1942 - (evening) On the eighth British bomber raid on Essen since March 8, bombs finally hit the Krupps armament works, causing a large fire.
  • 1943 - The British War Office circulates a paper on German Long-Range Rocket Development, the first formal warning of the impending threat.
  • 1945 - By dawn in the Netherlands, Canadian army engineers have completed a bridge across the Ijssel River, and tanks begin crossing.
  • 1945 - 1st Canadian Corps begins an assault on Arnhem.
  • 1945 - American President Franklin Roosevelt dies of a stroke.
  • 1990 - Australia issues five postage stamps depicting scenes from World War II.
  • 2005 - Belarus issues six postage stamps for the 60th anniversary of the end of World War II.

Video game history:

  • 1951 - Ferranti engineer Raymond Stuart-Williams completes the Nimrod computer. It measures 12 feet wide, 5 feet tall, and 9 feet deep.
  • 1983 - Atari announces it will start selling video game systems and cartridges in Japan. on May 10. Systems will cost about US$104, and cartridges will range US$18-29.
  • 1992 - The jury of a Federal District Court in Los Angeles, California, finds Sega Enterprises guilty of infringing an American inventor's patent, ordering US$33 million paid. The jury finds that the infringement was intentional, so the judge can triple the fine. The inventor's attorney will seek an order barring the sale of video games by Sega.
  • 1994 - Acclaim releases the Mortal Kombat II video game for the Sega 32X in the US.
  • 2005 - Microsoft releases the Jade Empire video game for the Xbox in the US.

Swedish history:

  • 1634 - The Frankfurt Convention is held, a meeting of Heilbronn League. George William of Brandenburg insists Sweden renounce claims to Pomerania. Axel Oxenstierna refuses, so George William refuses to join the League.

Canadian coin history:

  • 1935 - A Royal Proclamation sets the design of the 1935 Jubilee Silver Dollar. The obverse design of the King by Percy Metcalfe is used. The reverse shows a canoe manned by a voyageur and an Indian, with in islet in the background, and the Northern Lights in the sky.

USA coin history:

  • 1933 - Exchange of gold scrap for gold coins at the US Mint is no longer allowed.

Sports history:

  • 1858 - First US billiards championship is held in Detroit, Michigan (Michael J Phelan wins).
  • 1877 - Catcher's mask first used in a baseball game.
  • 1905 - Hippodrome arena opens (New York City, New York).
  • 1909 - Philadelphia's Shibe Park for baseball opens.
  • 1930 - 4th Test Cricket: West Indies versus England ends in a draw after nine days.
  • 1930 - Wilfred Rhodes ends Test Cricket career aged 52 years 165 days.
  • 1931 - Joe McCarthy debuts as New York Yankees' manager.
  • 1938 - NHL Stanley Cup: Chicago Blackhawks beat Toronto Maple Leafs, three games to one.
  • 1940 - NFL cuts clipping penalty from 25 yards to 15 yards.
  • 1941 - NHL Stanley Cup: Boston Bruins sweep Detroit Red Wings in four games.
  • 1942 - 9th Golf Masters Championship: Byron Nelson wins, shooting a 280.
  • 1952 - Betsy Rawls wins LPGA Houston Weathervane Golf Tournament.
  • 1953 - 17th Golf Masters Championship: Ben Hogan wins, shooting a 274.
  • 1953 - Keizo Yamada runs fastest marathon to date, at Boston, Massachusetts.
  • 1954 - 18th Golf Masters Championship: Sam Snead beats Ben Hogan to win his third Masters tournament, shooting a 289.
  • 1954 - 8th NBA Championship: Minneapolis Lakers beat Syracuse Nationals, 4 games to 3.
  • 1955 - First Major League Baseball game in Kansas City; Kansas City Athletics beat Detroit Tigers, 6-2.
  • 1957 - Jim Spalding sets a 2088-pin nine-game bowling record.
  • 1958 - 12th NBA Championship: Saint Louis Hawks beat Boston Celtics, 4 games to 2.
  • 1959 - Betsy Rawls wins LPGA Babe Didrikson-Zaharias Golf Open.
  • 1960 - Bill Veeck and Chicago Comiskey Park debut the "Exploding Scoreboard".
  • 1961 - Douglas MacArthur declines offer to become baseball commissioner.
  • 1964 - 28th Golf Masters Championship: Arnold Palmer wins, shooting a 276.
  • 1964 - Sandra Haynie wins LPGA Baton Rouge Ladies' Golf Open Invitational.
  • 1965 - First National League game at Houston's Astrodome (Philadelphia Phillies beat Houston Astros 2-0).
  • 1966 - Atlanta-Fulton County Stadium opens; Pittsburgh Pirates beat Atlanta Braves 3-2.
  • 1970 - New York Yankees dedicate plaques to Mickey Mantle and Joe DiMaggio.
  • 1972 - The Players' Association and owners agree to terms ending the first players strike in baseball history.
  • 1976 - India set 403 to win by West Indies; they get them, six wickets 7 overs spare.
  • 1980 - Milwaukee Brewers beats Boston Red Sox, 18-1 (Cooper and Money hit grand slams).
  • 1980 - US Olympic Committee endorses a boycott of the Moscow Summer Olympic games.
  • 1981 - 45th Golf Masters Championship: Tom Watson wins, shooting a 280.
  • 1981 - Donna Caponi Young wins LPGA American Defender/WRAL Golf Classic.
  • 1986 - 16-year-old Steffi Graf wins her first professional tennis tournament. (Hilton Head).
  • 1987 - 51st Golf Masters Championship: Larry Mize wins, shooting a 285.
  • 1987 - Ahmed Salah wins second World Cup marathon (2:10:55).
  • 1987 - Ayako Okamoto wins LPGA Kyocera Inamori Golf Classic.
  • 1988 - Frank Robinson replaces Cal Ripkin as manager of the Baltimore Orioles.
  • 1988 - New Jersey Devils 4-2 over New York Islanders-Devils lead 3-2 in first round.
  • 1992 - Second lowest NBA scoring game - Detroit Pistons 72, New York Knicks 61.
  • 1992 - 53rd PGA Seniors Golf Championship: Lee Trevino wins.
  • 1992 - 56th Golf Masters Championship; Fred Couples wins, shooting a 275.
  • 1992 - Matt Young no-hits Cleveland Indians, but loses 2-1.
  • 1992 - New York Mets lose first three home games for first time since 1962.
  • 1998 - 62nd Golf Masters Championship: Mark O'Meara wins.
  • 2004 - Barry Bonds hit his 660th career homerun, tying his godfather, Willie Mays for third on the all-time homerun list. The 72-year old Mays greets Bonds at home plate with an $18,000 torch studded with diamonds forming the numbers 660, 25 (Barry's number), and 1, the number to needed move ahead.
  • 2007 - In the USA, Don Imus is fired by CBS for making controversial comments about the Rutgers women's basketball team.
  • 2009 - In Losail, Qatar, round 1 of the FIM MotoGP Championship is won by Casey Stoner.
  • 2009 - Women's world hockey championships in Hameenlinna, Finland won by United States defeating Canada 4-1.
  • 2009 - Angel Cabrera becomes the first Argentine to win the Augusta National Masters golf tournament.
  • 2022 - At Oracle Park in San Francisco, California, USA, Major League Baseball regular season game: San Francisco Giants beats San Diego Padres by score 13-2.
  • 2022 - At Chase Field in Phoenix, Arizona, USA, Major League Baseball regular season game: Houston Astros beats Arizona Diamondbacks by score 2-1.
  • 2022 - At Globe Life Field in Arlington, Texas, USA, Major League Baseball regular season game: Colorado Rockies beats Texas Rangers by score 4-1.
  • 2022 - At Busch Stadium in Saint Louis, Missouri, USA, Major League Baseball regular season game: Saint Louis Cardinals beats Kansas City Royals by score 6-5.

  • 1996 - Jessica Dubroff, aged 7, is killed in a crash near Cheyenne, Wyoming, while attempting to set a record as the youngest person to pilot an airplane across the United States.
  • 2007 - In the USA, Don Imus is fired by CBS for making controversial comments about the Rutgers women's basketball team.
  • 2020 - U.S. president Donald Trump announces that the U.S. will suspend funding towards the World Health Organization pending an investigation of its handling of the COVID-19 pandemic and its relationship with the People's Republic of China.
  • 2022 - In New York City, USA, a man on a train pulling into a Brooklyn subway station sets off a smoke canister and shoots ten people.
