Personal computer history:

  • 1977 - Commodore International shows its Commodore PET 2001 computer at the West Coast Computer Faire. The PET includes a MOS Technology 6502 processor, 4 kB RAM, 14 kB ROM, keyboard, 9-inch monochrome display, and cassette tape drive, for US$595. The computer shown is a one-off prototype.
  • 2002 - Adobe Systems ships the Photoshop 7.0 graphics software for Windows and Macintosh computers.
  • 2003 - Corel releases the WordPerfect Office 11 software suite. It includes WordPerfect word processing, Quattro spreadsheet, and Presentations slide-show software. Price is US$299, or US$149 for an upgrade from a previous version.
  • 2003 - Intel releases the 2.5 GHz Pentium 4-M processor, for portable computers. Price is US$562 in 1000-unit quantities.
  • 2003 - Intel releases the 2.2 GHz Celeron processor, for low-price computers. Price is US$149 in 1000-unit quantities.
  • 2003 - Intel releases the 1.26 GHz Celeron processor, for mininotebook computers. Price is US$107 in 1000-unit quantities.
  • 2004 - Apple Computer releases updated eMac computers. They feature 1.25 GHz G4 processor, 17-inch monitor, 256 MB RAM, 40 or 80 GB hard drive.

Walt Disney Company history:

  • 1928 - Universal Pictures releases the 18th Oswald the Lucky Rabbit film, Ride 'em Plow Boy, to theaters.
  • 1931 - The Silly Symphony film Mother Goose Melodies is released to theaters.
  • 1948 - The Donald Duck film Daddy Duck is released.
  • 1958 - The ABC TV network airs the Disneyland TV show, entitled Four Tales on a Mouse.
  • 1961 - The ABC TV network airs the Walt Disney Presents TV show, featuring the 16th "Texas John Slaughter" episode, A Trip to Tucson.
  • 1964 - The Great Moments with Mr. Lincoln exhibit for the New York World's Fair passes testing at WED headquarters in California.
  • 1971 - Disney releases the 16-mm animated film compilation Festival of Folk Heroes.
  • 1981 - Disney shows the live-action feature film The Watcher in the Woods at special preview screenings.
  • 1989 - The NBC TV network airs The Magical World of Disney show, featuring Parent Trap III, part two.
  • 1991 - The Disney-produced TV series STAT first airs.
  • 1995 - The Fox Broadcasting Company airs The Simpsons TV show in the US. Students visit a Civil War historical site, with sign "Diz-Nee Historical Park - Sorry, but there's profit to be had", a reference to Disney's proposed Disney's America theme park in Virginia.
  • 1999 - The dispute between Jeffrey Katzenberg and Disney over his contract goes to trial. Testimony is given by Katzenberg, Michael Eisner, and lawyers.
  • 2001 - Disney's Animal Kingdom Lodge opens at Walt Disney World.
  • 2010 - The D Street shop opens at Downtown Disney West Side at Walt Disney World.

Chevrolet Corvette history:

  • 1955 - A fiberglass model of the restyled (1956) Corvette is shown to Chevrolet management.
  • 1960 - At the Marlboro raceway in Maryland, the first SCCA National race of the season is held. The Sting Ray racer is raced to 1st in class, 3rd overall.
  • 2016 - At the Long Beach Street Circuit in Long Beach, California, USA, the Bubba Burger Sports Car Grand Prix at Long Beach race is held, round 3 of the IMSA WeatherTech Sportscar Championship series.
    • Finishing 4th in GT Le Mans class and 14th overall is the Corvette Racing #4 Corvette C7.R driven by Tommy Milner and Oliver Gavin.
    • Finishing 7th in GT Le Mans class and 17th overall is the Corvette Racing #3 Corvette C7.R driven by Jan Magnussen and Antonio Garcia.

World War II history:

  • 1938 - Anglo-Italian pact signed in Rome; UK to promote recognition of Ethiopia, Italy to withdraw troops from Spain.
  • 1941 - (0220 hours) Near Kerkenah Islands in the Mediterranean, four British destroyers ambush a convoy of five merchant ships with three destroyers, sinking or setting all ships burning out-of-control within an hour. One British destroyer, the Mohawk is lost to two torpedoes.
  • 1943 - (evening) 327 British bombers attack Pilsen, trying for the Skoda armament works. No hits are scored, and 36 planes are shot down.
  • 1945 - (0630 hours) Near Halifax, Nova Scotia, Canada, German submarine U-190 torpedoes Royal Canadian Navy minesweeper HMCS Esquimalt. The ship sinks within four minutes, killing 44 of a crew of 71.
  • 1945 - The German garrison commander of Groningen, Netherlands, surrenders the town to Canadian forces.
  • 1945 - American troops reach Nuremberg, Germany.
  • 1945 - British bombers attack Swinemünde, sinking the German warship Lützow.
  • 1945 - Soviet forces begin attacks on Berlin, Germany, from a bridgehead west of Kuestrin. About 2.5 million men in the 1st and 2nd Belorussian Front and 1st Ukrainian Front take part.
  • 1945 - (over night) German forces trying to escape into western Netherlands make a fierce attack on Canadians defending Otterlo.
  • 1965 - Bulgaria issues two postage stamps marking the 20th anniversary of victory over Fascism.
  • 1990 - Marshall Islands issues a postage stamp marking the 50th anniversary of the Katyn Forest Massacre.
  • 2010 - Belarus issues two postage stamps marking the 65th anniversary of the end of World War II.
  • 2012 - Russia issues four postage stamps depicting World War II military vehicles.

Video game history:

  • 1990 - Nintendo files four copyright infringement suits in the US and Canada against retailers and distributors accused of selling counterfeit video game cartridges.

Swedish history:

  • 1631 - Landsberg capitulates to the Swedish army after a ten-day blockade.
  • 1943 - In Swedish territorial waters, near Stora Pölsan, where Skagerrak and Kattegat meet, German armed merchant ship Altkirch fires on Swedish submarines Ulven and Draken. The Ulven sinks.

A&W Root Beer history:

  • 1996 - The A & W (USA) slogan "WHERE THE FOOD'S AS GOOD AS THE ROOT BEER" is registered as a trade-mark.

Canadian coin history:

  • 1975 - The Royal Canadian Mint begins selling the third set of Olympic commemorative $5 and $10 silver coins. Banks and coin dealers also begin making the coins available to the public.
  • 1996 - The Base Metal Coins Regulations, 1996, is announced, to come into force July 1. The 1c coin is to change to copper-plated zinc (34.73 grains) or copper-plated steel (36.27 grains).
  • 2008 - The Royal Canadian Mint releases the 7th circulating 2010 Olympics coin, a 25-cent coin depicting freestyle skiing. The reverse design was created by Glenn Green.

USA coin history:

  • 1865 - The Philadelphia Mint coins 10,000 1865-dated dimes for circulation. This is the only day of dime production for the year.
  • 1917 - Mint Director F.J.H. von Engelken submits proposed legislation to allow design changes to the Standing Liberty/Flying Eagle quarter dollar to Representative William Ashbrook, chairman of the House Committee on Coinage, Weights and Measures.
  • 1980 - Professional Numismatists Guild Day is held in Lincoln, Nebraska. The previously climbing prices on coins comes to a halt, with more sellers than buyers.
  • 1980 - Rare Coin Company of America sells a unique 1870-S half dime to Abbott's Gold, Silver, and Rare Coins for US$425,000, a record for a silver coin.
  • 2007 - The Treasury Secretary announces the ban on melting cents and 5-cent coins would remain in place.

Sports history:

  • 1912 - Pittsburgh Pirates turn a rare 5-3-7 doubleplay (left fielder covers second base).
  • 1929 - Cleveland Indians' Earl Averill becomes first in American League to hit a homerun on first at bat.
  • 1929 - New York Yankees become first team to use numbers on uniforms.
  • 1935 - Babe Ruth's first National League game, for Boston Braves, includes a homerun.
  • 1939 - Stanley Cup: Boston Bruins beat Toronto Maple Leafs, 4 games to 1.
  • 1940 - First televised baseball game, WGN-TV, (Chicago White Sox versus Chicago Cubs exhibition).
  • 1940 - Cleveland Indians' Bob Feller hurls an opening day no-hitter versus Chicago, 1-0.
  • 1949 - NHL's Stanley Cup: Toronto Maple Leafs sweep Detroit Red Wings in four games.
  • 1953 - Jackie Pung wins LPGA Palm Springs Golf Open.
  • 1953 - Philadelphia Phillie's Connie Ryan gets six hits in a game.
  • 1953 - Stanley Cup: Montreal Canadiens beat Boston Bruins, 4 games to 1.
  • 1954 - NHL Stanley Cup: Detroit Red Wings beat Montreal Canadiens, 4 games to 3.
  • 1957 - Stanley Cup: Montreal Canadiens beat Boston Bruins, 4 games to 1.
  • 1958 - 22nd Golf Masters Championship: Arnold Palmer wins, shooting a 284.
  • 1959 - New York Yankees unveil their first message scoreboard.
  • 1959 - Philadelphia Phillies' Dave Philley gets a major league record 9th straight pinch hit.
  • 1961 - Louise Suggs wins LPGA Dallas Civitan Golf Open.
  • 1961 - NHL Stanley Cup: Chicago Blackhawks beat Detroit Red Wings, 4 games to 2.
  • 1967 - New York Yankees beat Boston Red Sox 7-6 in 18 innings.
  • 1972 - First Colgate Dinah Shore Golf Championship won by Jane Blalock.

  • 1986 - West Indies complete 5-0 demolition of England.
  • 1987 - Michael Jordan becomes second NBA to score 3000 points in a season.
  • 1989 - First Seniors Golf Tradition: Don Bies wins.
  • 1989 - Costa Rica beats US 1-0, in third round of 1990 world soccer cup.
  • 1989 - Pat Bradley wins LPGA AI Star/Centinela Hospital Golf Classic.
  • 1989 - Zeleka Metaferia wins third World Cup marathon (2:10:28).
  • 1990 - 19th Boston Women's Marathon won by Rosa Mota of Portugal in 2:25:23.

  • 1992 - New York Rangers win team record 50th game.
  • 1995 - 56th PGA Seniors Golf Championship: Ray Floyd wins.
  • 2004 - India defeats Pakistan in their first cricket tour in 14 years.

  • 1862 - CSA President Jefferson Davis approves conscription act for white males between 18-35.
  • 1862 - Slavery is officially banned in the District of Columbia, USA.

  • 1977 - At the West Coast Computer Faire in SanFrancisco, California, Commodore demonstrates the PET 2001 computer, and Apple Computer introduces the Apple II. Both feature a 6502 processor and 4 kB RAM, both targeting the home computer user. The PET is a complete unit, incorporating a monochrome display and cassette storage, whereas the Apple II uses a color TV display and external storage.
  • 1980 - US performs nuclear test at Nevada Test Site.
  • 1987 - US Federal Communications Commission imposes a broader definition of indecency over airwaves.
  • 1989 - The Dilbert comic strip is syndicated for the first time.
  • 1990 - Maximum New York State unemployment benefits raised to $260 per week.
  • 1990 - US Supreme Court rejects appeal from retarded man, Dalton Prejean, condemned to death for murdering a Louisiana state trooper in 1977.
  • 1993 - Jury reaches guilty verdict in Federal case against cop who beat Rodney King.

  • 2008 - Pope Benedict XVI makes his first official visit to the US, welcomed by President George Bush at Andrews Air Force Base.
  • 2008 - US President George Bush announces an initiative to have American greenhouse gas emissions peak by 2025.
  • 2008 - Heritage Auction Galleries auctions the Queller Collection. The Mickley specimen of the Class I US 1804 dollar sells for $3,737,500.
  • 2009 - General Growth Properties, the second-largest U.S. mall owner (over 200 malls), files for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection in the biggest real estate failure in U.S. history. The 55-year-old company, based in Chicago, listed total assets of US$29.56 billion and total debts of $27.29 billion. Company share value dropped to 60 cents from a high of US$67 in 2007.
  • 2009 - US President Barack Obama confirms that CIA interrogators who used interrogation methods not considered torture by legal opinion of the previous administration on suspects will not face prosecution. The approved techniques including waterboarding (simulated drowning), week-long sleep deprivation, nudity and putting insects in with a tightly confined prisoner.
  • 2010 - The U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission charges Goldman Sachs Group with fraud over its marketing of a subprime mortgage product. Goldman Sachs shares drop 12.8 percent, closing down $23.57 at $160.70 on the New York Stock Exchange.

  • 1724 - Easter is observed for the first time.
  • 1917 - Lenin returns to Russia to start Bolshevik Revolution.
  • 2007 - 32 people are killed in the Virginia Tech massacre on the premises of Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University in Blacksburg, Virginia, USA.
