Personal computer history:

  • 1989 - Commodore International appoints Harold Copperman as president and chief operating officer of Commodore Business machines in US, replacing Max Toy.
  • 2005 - Microsoft releases the Windows XP Professional x64 Edition operating system, for computers with Intel Pentium or AMD Athlon processors with 64-bit instructions. Price is US$155.95.
  • 2010 - The Fox Broadcasting Company airs The Simpsons TV show in the USA. A desktop computer appears, running a standard Windows lines screensaver.

Walt Disney Company history:

  • 1927 - The Paramount Theater in New York City premieres the Alice Comedy film Alice's Three Bad Eggs.
  • 1930 - The Mickey Mouse film Wild Waves is released to theaters.
  • 1952 - The Donald Duck film Let's Stick Together is released.
  • 1961 - Walt and Roy Disney pay off all existing loans.
  • 1984 - Saul Steinberg announces his intentions to increase his stake in Walt Disney Productions to 25 percent. In accordance with regulations, he can acquire up to 15 percent immediately, and then must wait 30 days before acquiring the rest, unless he seeks and is granted approval.
  • 1985 - The ABC TV network airs the last episode of the Wildside series.
  • 1994 - The NBC TV network airs the last episode of Disney's Someone Like Me show.
  • 1997 - Buena Vista Pictures releases the Touchstone Pictures live-action feature film Romy and Michele's High School Reunion to theaters in the USA.
  • 2000 - The Lion King stage musical opens at The Princess of Wales Theater in Toronto, Canada.
  • 2004 - The ABC TV network premieres the ABC Family Original Movie Brave New Girl.
  • 2004 - The Fox Broadcasting Company airs The Simpsons TV show in the US.
    • The dress-up character resembling Eeyore from Walt Disney World is run-over by a car; the character's actor says "Everything happens to Eemore.".
    • A character in Miami tells an old man "If you take a woman [to Epcot], she will be yours.".

  • 2005 - The April 25 issue of Business Week magazine includes a picture of Hilary Duff in a "Mickey & Co." short, and a picture of Mickey Mouse in a anticle about portable music players.
  • 2009 - Disney premieres the film The Boys: The Sherman Brothers' Story at the San Francisco International Film Festival.
  • 2012 - Disney releases Marvel's The Avengers movie in Australia and France.

Chevrolet Corvette history:

  • 1992 - Chevrolet General Manager Jim Perkins announces at the Corvette Wind and Thunder meeting that there is a plan for a 1996 Corvette, but with no radical changes.
  • 2009 - At the Virginia International Raceway the Bosch Engineering 250 at VIR race is held, round 2 of the Grand-Am Rolex Sports Car Series.
    • Finishing 13th in GT class and 28th overall is Nonnamaker/Nonnamaker in the #43 Team Sahlen Corvette.

World War II history:

  • 1941 - British forces begin an evacuation of Greece.
  • 1941 - Adolf Hitler issues Directive No. 28: Undertaking Mercury. Preparations are to be made to occupy the island of Crete.
  • 1942 - (evening) British Bomber Command launches a third attack on Rostock, Germany.
  • 1943 - The Soviet Union severs relations with the Polish Government, over the Katyn Forest massacre affair, accusing the Poles of acting in collusion with Hitler.
  • 1945 - US Secretary of War Henry Stimson delivers a full report on the atomic bomb to President Harry Truman. The First line of the document reads "Within four months, we shall in all probability have completed the most terrible weapon ever known in human history.".
  • 1945 - British and American troops meet Soviet forces at Torgau on the Elbe river. By order of General Dwight Eisenhower, the US 9th Army halts at the Elbe, allowing Russian forces to capture Berlin.
  • 1945 - In Mitterfels, Germany, American troops capture German Field Marshal General Paul Ludwig Ewald von Kleist, commander of Army Group A.
  • 1945 - 375 British bombers and over 100 US Mustang fighters attack Berchtesgaden, Germany, site of Adolf Hitler's residence. The SS chief's residence and two barrack blocks are destroyed, and 50 aircraft bomb Hitler's villa. However, Hitler is in his bunker in Berlin at this time.
  • 1945 - (evening) 119 British bombers attack the oil refinery at Tönsberg in Norway.
  • 1959 - France issues five postage stamps honoring heores of the French Underground during the war.
  • 1965 - The USSR issues ten postage stamps marking the 20th anniversary of the end of World War II.
  • 1975 - The USSR issues two postage stamps marking the 30th anniversary of victory in World War II.
  • 1980 - Netherlands issues two postage stamps marking the 35th anniversary of liberation from German occupation, depicting British bombers dropping food, and Anne Frank.
  • 1980 - The USSR issues three postage stamps marking the 35th anniversary of victory in World War II.
  • 1995 - Israel issues two postage stamps marking the 50th anniversary of the end of World War II, and the liberation of concentration camps.
  • 1995 - Israel issues a postage stamp in honor of the Jewish volunteers to the British Army in the war.
  • 1995 - Marshall Islands issues a postage stamp marking the 50th anniversary of the meeting of American and Soviet troops at the Elbe River.
  • 2000 - Norfolk Island issues a 75-cent postage stamp showing a list of war dead from World War II.

Video game history:

  • 2000 - Reprise Records releases the music album Silver & Gold by Neil Young. The album cover art was shot with a Game Boy Camera.
  • 2006 - Majesco releases the Guilty Gear: Dust Strikers video game for the Nintendo DS in the US.
  • 2006 - Ubisoft releases the America's Army: Rise of a Soldier video game for the PlayStation 2 and Xbox in the US.
  • 2010 - The Fox Broadcasting Company airs The Simpsons TV show in the USA. A "Funtendo Zii" appears, a parody of the Nintendo Wii. When the power goes out, the two kids use the remotes to fight each other.

Canadian coin history:

  • 1994 - The Minister of Public Works and Government Services unveils a new $1 coin for circulation. The coin honors Canadian war heroes, depicting the National War Memorial.

USA coin history:

  • 1933 - US drops Gold Standard.
  • 2004 - National Geographic's Ultimate Explorer TV show explores "Lost Gold of the SS Republic"
  • 2007 - A USA 1913 Liberty Head nickel, graded PR-66 by PCGS, is sold in a private sale to $5 million, second highest amount ever paid for a single US coin.
  • 2013 - At the Central States Numismatic Society 74th Annual Convention in Schaumburg, Illinois, Heritage Auctions conducts the Platinum Night sales.
    • George O. Walton specimen of the 1913 Liberty Head 5-cent coin, PCGS PR-63: $2.7 million plus 17.5% buyer's fee, sold to Jeff Garrett of Mid-American Rare Coin Galleries of Lexington Kentucky.
    • 1783 Nova Constellatio quint (500 cents) pattern, unique, type II: $1,000,000 + 17.5% buyer's fee.

Sports history:

  • 1876 - Chicago Cubs play their first National League game, beating Louisville Grays 4-0 (first National League shutout).
  • 1901 - Erve Beck hits the first home run in the American League.
  • 1901 - In last of 9th inning, Detroit Tigers, trailing by 13-4, score ten runs to win one of the greatest comebacks in baseball (first game in Detroit).
  • 1905 - Latest day of first-class cricket in an Australia season (New South Wales versus Queensland).
  • 1933 - New York Yankees' player Russ Van Atta shuts out Washington Senators 16-0.
  • 1952 - 6th NBA Championship: Minneapolis Lakers beat New York Knicks, 4 games to 3.
  • 1952 - American Bowling Congress approves use of an automatic pinsetter.
  • 1962 - Cleveland Indians send Harry Chiti to New York Mets for a player to be named later, on June 15 the Mets send Chiti back to Cleveland.
  • 1964 - Stanley Cup: Toronto Maple Leafs beat Detroit Red Wings, 4 games to 3.
  • 1965 - 19th NBA Championship: Boston Celtics beat Los Angeles Lakers, 4 games to 1.
  • 1965 - Betsy Rawls wins LPGA Pensacola Golf Invitational.
  • 1971 - Sandra Haynie wins LPGA Burdine's Golf Invitational.
  • 1974 - NFL moves the goal posts and adopts sudden-death playoff.
  • 1976 - Chicago Cubs' centerfielder Rick Monday rescues US flag from two fans trying to set it on fire.
  • 1976 - India all out for 97 versus West Indies.
  • 1976 - Jan Stephenson wins LPGA Birmingham Golf Classic.
  • 1977 - Cincinnati Reds tie record of 12 runs in 5th inning beating Atlanta Braves 23-9.
  • 1980 - Firestone World Bowling Tournament of Champions won by Wayne Webb.
  • 1980 - Oakland Athletics' manager Billy Martin restrained by umpires from attacking a fan.
  • 1981 - Seattle Mariners' manager Maury Wills is suspended for two games after ordering Seattle's grounds crew to enlarge batter's boxes by one foot.
  • 1982 - Patty Sheehan wins LPGA Orlando Lady Golf Classic.
  • 1982 - New York Yankees fire manager Bob Lemon.
  • 1985 - For second time, Wayne Gretzky scores 7 goals in a Stanley Cup game.
  • 1989 - Pittsburgh Penguins' player Mario Lemieux ties NHL playoff record of four goals in first period.
  • 1992 - Firestone World Bowling Tournament of Champions won by Marc McDowell.
  • 1995 - The 257-day Major League Baseball strike ends.
  • 1997 - Seattle Mariners' player Ken Griffey Junior hits his 250th homerun.
  • 2001 - San Diego Padres' outfielder Rickey Henderson breaks the career walks record established by Babe Ruth when he receives his 2,063rd base on balls.
  • 2009 - Matthew Stafford signs a contract with NFL's Detroit Lions for a six-year worth US$41.7-78 million.
  • 2022 - At Chase Field in Phoenix, Arizona, USA, Major League Baseball regular season game: Los Angeles Dodgers beats Arizona Diamondbacks by score 4-0.
  • 2022 - At Angel Stadium in Anaheim, California, USA, Major League Baseball regular season game: Los Angeles Angels beats Cleveland Guardians by score 3-0.
  • 2022 - At Globe Life Field in Arlington, Texas, USA, Major League Baseball regular season game: Texas Rangers beats Houston Astros by score 6-2.
