  • 1982 - Trip Hawkins founds Amazin' Games company (later changed to Electronic Arts).
  • 1985 - Apple Computer's board of directors decides to remove Steve Jobs as general manager of the Macintosh division.
  • 1996 - Apple Computer announces the Macintosh Performa 6320CD computer. It features 120 MHz 603e PowerPC processor, 16 MB RAM, 1.2 GB hard drive, CD-ROM drive, sixteen preinstalled titles and fifteen CD-ROM titles. Price is US$2599.
  • 1999 - In the antitrust case against Microsoft, Garry Norris, IBM's former director of software strategy and strategic relations, claims that Microsoft threatened to withhold a license to Windows unless IBM dropped support for Netscape Navigator, Lotus Notes, and other software.
  • 2010 - Apple begins sales of the iPad tablet computer outside the USA (Germany, France, Italy, Switzerland, Spain, Britain, Japan, Australia, and Canada).

Walt Disney Company history:

  • 1925 - Animation work begins on the Alice Comedy film Alice Picks the Champ.
  • 1928 - Universal Pictures releases the 21st Oswald the Lucky Rabbit film, Oh, What a Knight, to theaters.
  • 1941 - Walt Disney fires Art Babbitt for his union activities.
  • 1945 - Disney delivers the film The Dawn of Better Living to Westinghouse Electric.
  • 1953 - Disney's first "Adventures in Music" animated film, Melody, is released. The film was made in 3-D, the first such film to be released in the US.
  • 1960 - The Western Mine Train Through Nature's Wonderland attraction opens in Frontierland at Disneyland. The attraction cost US$1.8 million to build. It includes early technology leading to Audio-Animatronics, with 200 mechanical moving animals.
  • 1960 - The Art of Animation display opens in Tomorrowland at Disneyland.
  • 1961 - The ABC TV network airs the Walt Disney Presents TV show, featuring Disneyland '61 and Olympic Elk.
  • 1966 - The It's a Small World attraction opens in Fantasyland at Disneyland. The river is 1400 feet long; there are over 500 singing dolls and effects.
  • 1966 - The Topiary Gardens area opens in Fantasyland, outside It's a Small World.
  • 1978 - The NBC TV network airs The Wonderful World of Disney show, entitled The Young Runaways.
  • 1988 - The Gulf Coast Room restaurant in the Contemporary Resort at Walt Disney World closes.
  • 1993 - Groundbreaking begins for the Tower of Terror ride at the Disney-MGM Studios Theme Park in Walt Disney World.
  • 1993 - Disney releases the Hollywood Pictures live-action feature film Super Mario Bros. to theaters in the US. The film cost $48 million to make.
  • 1999 - Buena Vista releases the Walt Disney Pictures live-action feature film My Favorite Martian to theaters in Great Britain.
  • 2004 - Touchstone releases the live-action feature film Raising Helen to theaters in the USA.
  • 2010 - Disney releases the feature film Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time to theaters. The movie is based on the Prince of Persia series of computer/videogames, first released in 1987.
  • 2012 - Disney Cruise Line's Disney Wonder begins its second season of 7-day round-trip cruises to Alaska, this year departing from Seattle, Washington.
  • 2013 - The ABC TV network airs the final Body of Proof TV show.

Chevrolet Corvette history:

  • 1978 - In Indianapolis, Indiana, the 62nd Indianapolis 500 race is held. A 1978 Corvette is the official pace car, driven by Jim Rathmann. This is the first Indianapolis 500 pace car with a stock drivetrain. Pace Car with VIN 1 is sent to the Detroit Museum. Pace Cars with VIN 2 and 3 are used at the Indy 500 race. The Pace Car that is driven is given to race winner Al Unser.
  • 1988 - At the Sears Point Raceway in California, round two of the SCCA Corvette Challenge race series is held. Finishing 1st is Tommy Archer in the #34 NB Ventures Corvette.
  • 1995 - In Indianapolis, Indiana, the 79th Indianapolis 500 race is held. A 1995 Corvette performs the role of Official Pace Car, driven by Jim Perkins.
  • 2006 - The 90th Indianapolis 500 race is held, with 2006 Chevrolet Corvette Z06 as pace car.
  • 2007 - At the Lime Rock Park raceway in Lakeville, Connecticut, the Grand-Am GT Classic at Lime Rock race is held, round six of the Grand-Am Rolex Sports Car Series.
    • Finishing 7th is the Team Sahlen #42 Corvette driven by Joe Sahlen and Will Nonnamaker.
    • Finishing 9th is the Stevenson Automotive #57 Corvette driven by Dominic Cicero and Marc Bunting.
    • Finishing 13th is the Team Sahlen #43 Corvette driven by Joe Nonnamaker and Wayne Nonnamaker.

World War II history:

  • 1940 - (0400 hours) King Leopold III of Belgium surrenders the army unconditionally to German forces.
  • 1940 - French 4th Armored Division forces the retreat of a German armored division at Caumont. This makes commander Colonel Charles de Gaulle the first and only French Commanding Officer to force a German retreat during the invasion of France.
  • 1940 - French General Béthouart leads a force from Bjerkvik on Narvik, Norway.
  • 1940 - Polish troops attack Narvik, Norway, from south of the village.
  • 1940 - Allied troops complete taking Narvik, Norway.
  • 1941 - On Crete, German forces occupy Suda Bay.
  • 1941 - (night) British ships evacuate 3500 British and Greek troops from Iraklion, Crete.
  • 1942 - The aircraft carriers Enterprise and Hornet leave Pearl Harbor.
  • 1943 - German submarine U-304 under commander Heinz Koch is lost with all hands (46 dead).
  • 1943 - German submarine U-755 under commander Walter Göing is lost with 40 dead of 49 crew.
  • 1944 - (evening) 400 US Air Force bombers make a second attack on fuel plants in Germany, and US 15th Air Force strike refineries in Romanian oil fields Ploesti. Fuel production is completely halted.
  • 1945 - The Battle of the Atlantic ends, and ships switch on their running lights.
  • 1952 - France issues a postage stamp marking the 1940 May 27 Battle of Narvik, Norway.
  • 1990 - Poland issues a postage stamp marking the 50th anniversary of the Battle of Narvik.
  • 1995 - Philippines issues three postage stamps marking the 50th anniversary of the liberation of concentration camps.

Video game history:

  • 1992 - The Summer Consumer Electronics Show is held in Chicago, Illinois, over four days. For the first time, the public is allowed in for the last two days.
    • Nintendo has a 76,000 square foot booth, the largest in the history of the trade show.
    • Nintendo announces it will sell the Super Nintendo system with one controller for US$99.95 in the US, or US$149.95 with two controllers and Super Mario World.
    • Sega announces a price drop of the Genesis to US$99.99 with one controller, and the GameGear to US$99.99.
    • Turbo Technologies drops the price of the TurboGrafx-16 to US$69.99 or $99.99 including Bonk's Revenge and Keith Courage.

  • 1993 - Disney releases the Hollywood Pictures live-action feature film Super Mario Bros. to theaters in the US. The film cost $48 million to make.
  • 2003 - In Tokyo, Japan, Sony Electronics vice president Ken Kutaragi unveils the PSX, combining a PlayStation 2 game player with DVD recorder. The PSX includes a broadcast satellite tuner, 120 GB hard drive, Memory Stick slot, and Ethernet and USB ports.
  • 2003 - 3DO announces it has filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection in the US, giving the company time to find a buyer for the company.

Swedish history:

  • 1810 - In Skåne, Prince Karl August has a stroke, falls from a horse while attending a military review, and dies within a half hour.
  • 1999 - Tony Olsson, Andreas Axelsson, and Jackie Arklöv rob a bank in Kisa, and during the escape they kill policemen Olle Borén and Robert Karlström in Malexander.

A&W Root Beer history:

  • 1976 - In Los Angeles Court, A & W International files lawsuit against the National A & W Franchisee Association, mainly over issue of sales of A & W Root Beer in bottles and cans.

USA coin history:

  • 1965 - All of the working dies (50 obverses and six reverses) for the 1964 Peace dollar coin are mutilated.
  • 1990 - Superior Galleries conducts the Boys Town Sale coin auction in Beverly Hills, California. The King of Siam Proof Set (with 1804 silver dollar and 1804 gold eagle) sells for $3.19 million, highest price paid for a single auction lot in numismatic history. Total sale is $21.5 million, highest grossing one-part numismatic auction to date.

Sports history:

  • 1875 - Third Preakness: L Hughes aboard Tom Ochiltree wins in 2:43.5.
  • 1880 - 8th Preakness: L Hughes aboard Grenada wins in 2:40.5.
  • 1900 - Fire in Cincinnati, Ohio, nearly destroys Cincinnati Reds' grandstand.
  • 1901 - 26th Preakness: Fred Landry aboard The Parader wins in 1:47.2.
  • 1904 - 29th Preakness: Eugene Hildebrand aboard Bryn Mawr wins in 1:44.2.
  • 1912 - Jackie Matthews takes two cricket hat-tricks same day Australia versus South Africa.

  • 2006 - At AT&T Park, Barry Bonds passes Babe Ruth for number of home runs as he hits the 715th homer of his Major League career. Bonds is now in second place, behind Hank Aaron.
  • 2022 - At Madison Square Garden in New York, New York, USA, NHL Eastern Conference 2nd Round, game 6: New York Rangers defeats Carolina Hurricanes by score 5-2, series tied 3-3.

  • 1974 - Massachusetts State Lottery begins selling first instant game lottery tickets (latex-covered scratch-off area).
  • 1974 - Stephen Schwartz' musical Magic Show premieres at the Cort Theater in New York City for 1859 performances.
  • 1977 - A fire at the Beverly Hills Supper Club in Southgate, Kentucky, USA, kills 164 people and injures 130 others.
  • 1987 - 60th US National Spelling Bee: Stephanie Petit wins spelling "staphylococci".
  • 1987 - Monitor, Civil War warship, is discovered by a deep sea robot.
  • 1990 - Superior Galleries conducts the Boys Town Sale coin auction in Beverly Hills California. The King of Siam Proof Set (with 1804 silver dollar) sells for $3.19 million, highest price paid for a single auction lot in numismatic history. Total sale is $21.5 million, highest grossing one-part numismatic auction to date.
  • 1992 - 65th National Spelling Bee: Amanda Goad wins spelling "lyceum".
  • 1998 - Death of Phil Hartman at age 49, shot dead by his wife (who then kills herself) in Encino, California, USA; actor/comedian (Saturday Night Live, The Simpsons, NewsRadio).
