- 1992 - At the Spring Consumer Electronics Show, Apple Computer announces the Newton pen input device. Features include: multitasking NewtOS operating system, ARM 610 processor, one PCMCIA 2.0 card slot, 7 1/2 x 3 1/2 inch size, 3 x 6 inch screen, and weight of under one pound.
- 1996 - The first JavaOne developers' conference is held. Over 6000 attend.
- 2001 - SuSE announces SuSE Linux 7.2 operating system for the Intel IA-64 processor.
- 2001 - Red Hat announces the Red Hat Linux 7.1 operating system for the Intel Itanium processor.
- 2002 - IEEE 1394 is officially renamed FireWire.
- 2003 - Microsoft and America Online settle their private antitrust lawsuit, with Microsoft paying US$750 million and granting a royalty-free seven-year license to use Internet Explorer with America Online's client software.
- 1925 - Disney ships the Alice Comedy film Alice Stage Struck to M.J. Winkler Productions.
- 1937 - The Mickey Mouse film Modern Inventions is released to theaters. Donald Duck stars, without Mickey Mouse.
- 1941 - 300-700 Disney animators, members of the Screen Cartoonists Guild, stage a strike of the Disney Studios. More than 1000 picketers appear in the first hour.
- 1944 - The film The Amazon Awakens is delivered to the Coordinator of Inter-American Affairs.
- 1957 - The ABC TV network airs the Disneyland TV show, entitled The Liberty Story, including the film Ben and Me, and portions of the film Johnny Tremain.
- 1959 - The ABC TV network airs the Walt Disney Presents TV show, entitled I Captured the King of the Leprechauns, including portions of the film Darby O'Gill and the Little People.
- 1980 - Saint Lucia issues ten postage stamps marking the International Year of the Child, and commemorating the 15th anniversary of the first moon walk, depicting various Disney characters in space.
- 1984 - Reliance Group Holdings files a suit in federal court against Disney, claiming that the Arvida deal is "a waste of corporate assets".
- 1984 - Saul Steinberg announces plans to hold a proxy fight, to arrange a stockholders' meeting to vote the current Disney management out of office.
- 1986 - The Spaceship Earth attraction in EPCOT Center is updated with new narration by Walter Cronkite.
- 1987 - The Briar Rose Cottage shop opens in Fantasyland in Disneyland. This spot was formerly Mickey's Christmas Chalet.
- 1991 - Tokyo Disneyland welcomes its 100-millionth guest.
- 1991 - Uganda issues ten postage stamps depicting various Disney characters in Japan.
- 1992 - Disney releases the Touchstone Pictures live-action feature film Sister Act to theatres.
- 2009 - Disney releases the Pixar animated feature film Up to theaters in the USA and Canada.

- 1972 - At the Lime Rock Park raceway in Lime Rock, Connecticut, an IMSA race is held.

- 2005 - In Indianapolis, Indiana, the 85th Indianapolis 500 race is held. US Secretary of State Colin Powell drives the 2005 Corvette convertible as pace car.
- 2006 - At the Lime Rock Park raceway in Lakeville, Connecticut, the Rolex GT Series Challenge race is held, round eight of the Grand American Rolex Series.
- Finishing 4th is the Stevenson Motorsports #57 Corvette, driven by Vic Rice, Tommy Riggins, and John Stevenson.
- Finishing 15th is the Michael Baughman Racing #46 Corvette, driven by Michael Baughman and John Connolly.
- 1940 - (early) About 40 miles north-west of La Panne, France, British destroyer Wakeful is hit by a torpedo, splits in half, and sinks in 15 seconds, killing about 100 soldiers.
- 1940 - (0250 hours) In the English Channel, German submarine U69 torpedoes British destroyer Grafton, also damaging destroyer Comfort. British destroyer Lydd rams Comfort in error, cutting the ship in half.
- 1940 - In the English Channel, British destroyer Gallant strikes a mine, killing 55 of the crew, but the ship survives.
- 1940 - Off Dunkirk, France, British destroyer Grenade is bombed and sunk.
- 1941 - (early) The British Royal Navy evacuates the garrison at Heraklion, Crete.
- 1942 - Convoy SC-85 leaves Breton Island, Nova Scotia, Canada, destined for England.
- 1942 - The German Navy petitions Adolf Hitler for permission to carry the war to the American continent, by a surprise attack on Brazilian naval and merchant ships, because of their help to Allies in the war at sea.
- 1942 - Adolf Hitler issues Directive 42, giving instructions for operations against unoccupied France and the Iberian Peninsula. Directives for operations Attila and Isabella are cancelled, to be replaced by improvised plans for both operations. If necessary, Germany and Italy would share occupying remaining French territory, including the colonies. Code name for this operation is Anton. Preparations are to be made for counter-measures against an enemy attack on the Iberian Peninsula, code named Ilona.
- 1943 - 1000 Japanese on Attu Island charge at US forces, but do not succeed. Of 2500 Japanese on the island, only 28 survive. 1800 Americans are wounded or killed.
- 1943 - (evening) 719 British bombers attack Barmen, Germany, destroying nearly 4000 houses, damaging 200 factories, and killing 3400 people.
- 1985 - Tuvalu issues four postage stamps depicting World War II aircraft.
- 2003 - Nature magazine publishes the article "Action video game modifies visual selective attention" by D. Bavelier and C. Green. It reports that video games improve visual skills.
- 2007 - Microsoft releases the Forza Motorsport 2 video game for the Xbox 360 in the US.
- 2007 - Nintendo releases the Mario Party 8 video game for the Nintendo Wii in the US.
- 1984 - A proclamation sets the design of the 1984 commemorative nickel dollar, effective June 1, 1984. The coin commemorates the 450th anniversary of Jacques Cartier's landing at Gaspe, Quebec.
- 2006 - Ian Bennet is announced as the new Master of the Royal Canadian Mint, effective June 12.
- 1936 - Congress authorizes 1936 Lynchburg, Virginia, Sesquicentennial commemorative half dollar.
- 1998 - US President Bill Clinton signs Public Law 105-176 authorizing the US Mint to move certain emblems from the reverse to the obverse of coins, to leave more room for State quarter dollar designs.
- 2009 - Heritage Auction Galleries conducts their Signature auction in Long Beach, California. An 1856-O Coronet double eagle, SP-63 PCGS, finest known, sells for US$1,437,500.
- 2011 - (to May 30) in Long Beach, California, Ira & Larry Goldberg Auctioneers conduct the Pre-Long Beach Auction. Some highlights:
- US 1794 Flowing Hair dollar, AU-58 PCGS: US$575,000;
- US 1792 silver half disme, reeded edge, AU-55 PCGS: US$149,500;
- US 1795 Flowing Hair dollar, 3 leaves, MS-64 NGC: US$155,250;

- 1911 - At the Indianapolis Motor Speedway, Ray Harroun wins the first Indianapolis 500 car race.
- 1922 - US Supreme Court rules organized baseball is a sport and not a business and thus not subject to antitrust laws.
- 1940 - Adolf Kiefer swims world record 100 yards backstroke (58.8 seconds).
- 1957 - New York City Mayor Robert Wagner says he plans to confer with the New York Giants and Brooklyn Dodgers about the proposed move to the west coast.
- 1958 - Real Madrid wins third Europe Cup 1 in Brussels, Belgium.
- 1965 - Philadelphia Phillies' Dick Allen hits 529-foot homerun out of Connie Mack Stadium.
- 1966 - Carol Mann wins LPGA Baton Rouge Ladies Golf Invitational.
- 1968 - Manchester United becomes the first English team to win European Championship soccer tournament beating Benfica of Portugal 4-1 at Wembley after an added 30 minutes.
- 1972 - Sandra Palmer wins LPGA Titleholders Golf Championship.
- 1976 - Only homerun of Joe Niekro's 22-year career, comes off brother Phil.
- 1977 - A J Foyt wins Indianapolis 500 (average speed of 161.331 mph) for a record fourth time.
