Personal computer history:

  • 1986 - Paramount Pictures releases the film Ferris Bueller's Day Off to theaters in the USA. An IBM PC personal computer appears in a bedroom and in an office.
  • 1991 - On the cruise yacht New Yorker, dubbed the "DOS Boat", in New York City harbor, Bill Gates and Steve Ballmer unveil MS-DOS 5.0. It adds a full-screen editor, undelete and unformat utilities, and task swapping. GW-BASIC is replaced with Qbasic, based on Microsoft's QuickBASIC.
  • 2001 - Pitcairn Islands issues four postage stamps depicting computer keyboard, circuit board, integrated circuit, mouse, and CD-ROM.
  • 2003 - MacSoft / Destineer releases the Unreal Tournament 2003 game for the Macintosh in the USA. Price is US$49.99.
  • 2003 - Intel releases 2.4, 2.66, 2.8, and 3.06 GHz mobile Pentium 4 processors. Each features SpeedStep battery-saving technology, and 533 MHz system bus. Prices range from US$186 to US$417 in 1000-unit quantities.
  • 2003 - Intel releases 2.2, 2.3, and 2.4 GHz mobile Celeron processors. Prices range from US$74 to US$84 in 1000-unit quantities.
  • 2003 - Intel releases the 2.6 GHz Pentium 4-M processor. Price is US$562 in 1000-unit quantities.
  • 2003 - Intel releases the 2.4 GHz low power mobile Celeron processor. Price is US$149 in 1000-unit quantities.

Walt Disney Company history:

  • 1928 - Universal Pictures releases the Oswald the Lucky Rabbit film Sky Scrappers to theaters.
  • 1929 - Walt Disney's trademark application for the image of Mickey Mouse is filed with the United States Patent Office.
  • 1943 - Work on the film The Good Samaritan is canceled.
  • 1945 - Disney delivers the film Something You Didn't Eat for the Cereal Institute (Office of War Information, War Food Administration).
  • 1958 - Disney releases the 12th People and Places film, Scotland, to theaters.
  • 1960 - Buena Vista releases Disney's live-action feature film The Sign of Zorro to theaters in the US. The film was made by splicing together several episodes of Disney's TV show Zorro.
  • 1961 - The ABC TV network airs the Walt Disney Presents TV show, featuring The Title Makers, the film Nature's Half Acre, and a preview of the film The Parent Trap.
  • 1969 - Disney releases the live-action featurette film Hang Your Hat on the Wind to theatres.
  • 1969 - Disney releases the live-action feature film Rascal to theatres. The film is based on the book by Sterling North.
  • 1977 - The Main Street Electrical Parade premieres in the Magic Kingdom at Walt Disney World.
  • 1983 - The Refreshment Outpost snack bar opens in World Showcase in EPCOT Center at Walt Disney World.
  • 1984 - The Disney board of directors votes to approve the buyback of Saul Steinberg's stock.
  • 1987 - The Disney Gallery opens in New Orleans Square at Disneyland.
  • 1989 - The NBC TV network airs The Magical World of Disney show, entitled Davy Crockett: A Letter to Polly.
  • 1992 - The film Beauty and the Beast is released to theaters in Australia.
  • 1993 - Disney generally releases the Touchstone Pictures live-action feature film What's Love Got to Do with It to theaters in the US.
  • 1993 - The CBS TV Network premieres the TV series Cutters.
  • 1996 - Touchstone Home Video releases the film Father of the Bride, Part II on laserdisc for US$39.99.
  • 2007 - The Finding Nemo Submarine Voyage attraction opens in Tomorrowland at Disneyland.
  • 2012 - ABC Family TV network premieres the Bunheads TV show.

Chevrolet Corvette history:

  • 1958 - The 39 millionth Chevrolet car is built, a 1958 Corvette.
  • 1967 - (to June 12) In Paris, France, the 24 Hours of Le Mans race is held. California car dealer Dana Chevrolet enters the #9 1967 Corvette coupe with 427-ci L-88 engine, driven by Dick Guldstrand, Don Yenko, and Bob Bondurant. The lone Corvette is the heaviest car in the race, and runs at 4th overall briefly. Dick Guldstrand sets a new record speed of 171.5-mph on the Mulsanne straight, 22-mph faster than the GT class-winning Ferrari. In the 17th hour, the engine fails due to weak wrist pins, ending the race for the Corvette. At the time, the car had a 3-4 lap lead in GT class.
  • 1978 - At the Portland International Raceway in Portland, Oregon, the G.I. Joe's Rose Cup SCCA Trans-Am Challenge - Round 3 race is held.
    • Finishing 1st in category I and 5th overall is the El Camino Auto Parts #22 Corvette, driven by Bob Matkovich.
    • Finishing 2nd in category I and 6th overall is the A&D Terminals #17 Corvette, driven by Rick Stark.
    • Finishing 4th in category I and 8th overall is the Mocko Racing #3 Corvette, driven by David Mock.
    • Finishing 5th in category I and 10th overall is the Babe's Garage #78 Corvette, driven by Babe Headley.
    • Finishing 6th in category I and 11th overall is the Phantom Racing #43 Corvette, driven by Frank Joyce.
    • Finishing 7th in category I and 12th overall is the Corvette Shop #71 Corvette, driven by Jeff Weymouth.
    • Finishing 8th in category I and 13th overall is the Pullyblank Enterprises #06 Corvette, driven by Gary Pullyblank.
    • Finishing 9th in category I and 15th overall is the DePirro Racing #73 Corvette, driven by Paul DePirro.
    • Finishing 10th in category I and 16th overall is the Mr. Plywood #04 Corvette, driven by Bob Henkel.
    • In 14th place in category I and 21st place overall, but not finishing the race, is the Metamorphic #80 Corvette, driven by Nick Engels.
    • In 15th place in category I and 22nd place overall, but not finishing the race, is the Anne Hixon Corvette, driven by Owen Hixon.
    • In 16th place in category I and 23rd place overall, but not finishing the race, is the Brandt Moving & Storage #60 Corvette, driven by John Brandt, Jr.
    • In 8th place in category II and 24th place overall, but not finishing the race, is the Automotive Enterprises #27 Corvette, driven by Rich Sloma.

    • In 10th place in category II and 28th place overall, but not finishing the race, is the Arrow Heating - Carrier #76 Corvette, driven by Joe Chamberlain.
    • In 20th place in category I and 31st place overall, but not finishing the race, is the Andy's Rental Inc. #32 Corvette, driven by Steve Anderson.
    • In 23rd place in category I and 34th place overall, but not finishing the race, is the Ryan Racing #89 Corvette, driven by Bob Ryan.
    • In 24th place in category I and 35th place overall, but not finishing the race, is the Schwafel Racing #41 Corvette, driven by Dave Schwafel.

  • 1996 - General Motors holds a press conference to announce and display the new Gen II engine for the 1997 Corvette. The engine will be known as RPO LS1, a 5.7 litre V-8.
  • 1999 - The film Austin Powers: The Spy Who Shagged Me is released to theaters in the US and Canada. The main character drives a 1965 convertible Corvette painted red/white/blue like an American flag.

World War II history:

  • 1940 - The French town of Reims falls to German forces.
  • 1940 - Paris, France, is declared an open city.
  • 1940 - (night) 34 British Whitley bombers attack Italy from an airfield in the Channel Islands.
  • 1941 - Adolf Hitler issues Directive No. 32: Preparations for the period after 'Barbarossa'. The efforts of the armaments industry are to focus on Navy and Air Force. Fighting against British forces in the Mediterranean and Western Asia are to continue through Egypt and Turkey, possibly through Iran. Gibraltar is to be captured. The siege of England is to be resumed, with preparations continuing for a landing.
  • 1942 - In North Africa, a battalion of German 21st Panzer Division cuts across Via Balbia road midway between Tobruk and Gazala, reaching the sea.
  • 1942 - The King of England knights British Air Chief Marshal Arthur Harris.
  • 1943 - (evening) 783 British bombers attack Düsseldorf, Germany. 130 acres of the city are destroyed, in 882 separate fires. 1300 people are killed, and 140,000 made homeless.
  • 1944 - German Admiral Karl Dönitz issues an order to submarine commanders: "The invasion fleet is to be attacked with complete recklessness".
  • 1944 - American air attacks begin on Guam, Saipan, and Tinian in the Marianas Islands.

Video game history:

  • 1986 - Paramount Pictures releases the film Ferris Bueller's Day Off to theaters in the USA. Arcade game Karate Champ appears. The sound effects of Pac-Man dying can be heard.
  • 1990 - A U.S. District Court judge in San Francisco declines Nintendo's request to issue a temporary restraining order against Lewis Galoob Toys selling the Game Genie product.
  • 2001 - Nintendo launches the Game Boy Advance portable game system in the US. It features 32-bit ARM RISC processor, 2.9-inch reflective TFT 240 x 160 pixel 32,768-color display. Size is 3.25 x 5.6 inches; two AA batteries power the system for about 15 hours.
  • 2001 - Namco releases the Namco Museum video game for the Game Boy Advance in the US.
  • 2001 - Nintendo releases the Super Mario Advance video game for the Game Boy Advance.
  • 2001 - Konami releases the Castlevania: Circle of the Moon video game for the Game Boy Advance in the US.
  • 2001 - Majesco releases the Iridion 3-D video game for the Game Boy Advance in the USA.
  • 2001 - Majesco releases the Pitfall: The Mayan Adventure video game for the Game Boy Advance in the USA.
  • 2001 - Majesco releases the Earthworm Jim video game for the Game Boy Advance in the USA.
  • 2001 - Ubi Soft releases the Rayman Advance video game for the Game Boy Advance in the USA.
  • 2001 - Activision releases the Tony Hawk's Pro Skater 2 video game for the Game Boy Advance in the USA.
  • 2001 - 3DO releases the Army Men Advance video game for the Game Boy Advance in the USA.
  • 2001 - Kemco releases the Top Gear GT Championship video game for the Game Boy Advance in the USA.
  • 2001 - Nintendo releases the F-Zero: Maximum Velocity video game for the Game Boy Advance in the USA.
  • 2001 - Activision releases the Tony Hawk's Pro Skater 2 video game for the Game Boy Advance in the USA.
  • 2006 - Nintendo releases the DS Lite handheld video game system in the US. Case color is Polar White. Price is US$129.99.

Swedish history:

  • 1631 - King Gustav Adolf reaches a pact with George William, Elector of Brandenburg. The Swedish army retains possession of Spandau for the duration of the war, can pass freely through Küstrin, receives payment of 30,000 riksdaler per month, and has the right of levying contributions within Electoral territories.

Canadian coin history:

  • 1964 - The Minister of Finance announces a design competition for all coin reverses for 1967 coinage. Deadline for submissions is March 31, 1965.

USA coin history:

  • 1866 - The Philadelphia Mint begins production of Shield 5-cent coins for circulation.
  • 1946 - Coin dealer Abe Kosoff auctions the "World's Greatest Collection" of William C. Atwater. A US 1894-S dime, uncirculated, sells for $2350. The US $1 1804 Idler specimen sells to Will W. Neil for $2875.
  • 2008 - The US Mint announces it will make boxes of rolls of Presidential dollars available at face value, to a value of $500, with free shipping to anywhere in the USA. The intent is to encourage circulation of the coins.
  • 2012 - The US Mint releases the 2012 Acadia National Park quarter dollar to circulation.

Sports history:

  • 1904 - Chicago Cubs' pitcher Bob Wicker no-hits New York Giants, wins in 12th on one hitter, 1-0.
  • 1911 - Detroit Tigers, trailing Chicago White Sox 13-1 come back to win 16-15.
  • 1919 - Sir Barton becomes first horse to win the Triple Crown.
  • 1938 - Cincinnati Reds' Johnny Vander Meer no-hits Boston Bees, 3-0.
  • 1955 - Eddie Arcaro ties record of six Belmont Stakes wins.
  • 1961 - Norm Cash becomes first Detroit Tigers' player to hit a ball out of Tiger Stadium.
  • 1977 - Seattle Slew wins Belmont Stakes and Triple Crown.
  • 1982 - Larry Holmes defeats Gerry Cooney, retains WBC heavyweight crown.
  • 1988 - Galina Chistyakova of USSR sets long jump woman's record (24 feet 8.25 inches).
  • 1988 - New York Yankees' Rick Rhoden becomes first pitcher to designate hit (0 for 1 with an RBI).
  • 1989 - Youngest (age 17) male French Open champion and first US champion since 1955, Michael Chang upsets Stefan Edberg in the finals in five sets.
  • 2010 - (to July 11) The 2010 World Cup of soccer/football is hosted in Africa for the first time, as South Africa begins the opening ceremony in Johannesburg, with 32 nations competing in 64 games.
  • 2021 - (to July 11) The UEFA Euro 2020, hosted by 11 different countries, is held, and is won by Italy after beating England on penalties.
  • 2022 - At T-Mobile Park in Seattle, Washington, USA, Major League Baseball regular season game: Seattle Mariners beats Boston Red Sox by score 7-6.
  • 2022 - At Angel Stadium in Anaheim, California, USA, Major League Baseball regular season game: Los Angeles Angels beats New York Mets by score 11-6.
  • 2022 - At Oracle Park in San Francisco, California, USA, Major League Baseball regular season game: San Francisco Giants beats Los Angeles Dodgers by score 3-2.
  • 2022 - At Yankee Stadium in the Bronx, New York, USA, Major League Baseball regular season game: New York Yankees beats Chicago Cubs by score 8-0.
  • 2022 - At Petco Park in San Diego, California, USA, Major League Baseball regular season doubleheader game 1: San Diego Padres beats Colorado Rockies by score 2-1.

  • 2004 - Terry Nichols is spared the death penalty by an Oklahoma state court on murder charges stemming from the 1995 Oklahoma City bombing. The decision comes on the third anniversary of the execution of his co-defendant, Timothy McVeigh, in Terre Haute, Indiana.
