- 1934 - The Mickey Mouse film Mickey's Steam-Roller is released to theaters. Minnie Mouse also appears.
- 1955 - Disney releases the third People and Places film, Switzerland, to theaters.
- 1955 - Buena Vista premieres Disney's animated feature film Lady and the Tramp in Chicago, Illinois. It is the first cartoon feature filmed in CinemaScope. Two versions of the film are available to theaters: regular and wide-screen CinemaScope. The film is based on an original story by Ward Greene.
- 1956 - The Tom Sawyer Island attraction opens in Frontierland at Disneyland.

- 2001 - At the Circuit de la Sarthe race course in Le Mans, France, the 69th 24 Hours of Le Mans race is held, over two days. Nine cars are entered in GTS class: two Corvette C5-R, three Saleen SR7, and four Viper GTS-R.
- Finishing 1st in GTS class and 8th overall is the Corvette Racing #63 Corvette C5-R, driven by Ron Fellows, Scott Pruett, and Johnny O'Connell. The car was 6th overall for part of the race.
- Finishing 2nd in GTS class and 14th overall is the Corvette Racing #64 Corvette C5-R, driven by Kelly Collins, Andy Pilgrim, and Franck Freon.
- 2006 - In St. Charles, Illinois, the Bloomington Gold Corvette show is held, over three days. In the car auction, a 1963 coupe that was raced at the 12 Hours of Sebring is bid to US$1.15 million, not high enough for the reserve price.
- 1940 - Soviet forces occupy Latvia.
- 1940 - (about 1600 hours) The White Star Line passenger liner Lancastria is struck by four bombs from a German Junkers 88 dive-bomber in an air raid at Saint Nazaire, France. The ship sinks in 20 minutes, taking about 3500 of 6000 troops on board.
- 1940 - German forces reach the Rhône valley in France.
- 1940 - Soviet Premier Josef Stalin demands Romania cede Bessarabia and northern Bucovina. Romania gives in to the demands.
- 1940 - Paul Reynaud resigns as Prime Minister of France. Marshal Henri Pétain takes over the government, and immediately calls for a ceasefire.
- 1940 - (to June 18) Portuguese consul general in France issues 30,000 transit viasa in Bordeaux to refugees escaping European war.
- 1942 - An Anglo-American convoy reaches Malta.
- 1944 - (evening) 321 British bombers attack the synthetic oil plant at Sterkrade/Holten. Little damage is done. About 31 planes are shot down.
- 1944 - (evening) British bombers attack four V-1 and V-2 rocket launch sites in the Pas de Calais.
- 1990 - Marshall Islands issues a postage stamp marking the 50th anniversary of the occupation of Paris.
- 1989 - Columbia Pictures releases the film Ghostbusters II to theaters in the US. Someone asks "Do you want to play ... Super Mario Bros?". A Nintendo NES Advantage joystick is used.
- 1995 - Sega Enterprises cuts the price of the Saturn game system in Japan. from 44,800 yen to 34,800 (US$419), including the game Virtua Fighter free for the first month of sales.
- 2006 - The Entertainment Software Association and the Entertainment Merchants Association file suit in the Federal District Court of Baton Rouge, Louisiana, to overturn a new law imposing fines for selling violent video games to minors. U.S District Court Judge James Brady grants a temporary restraining order preventing the state of Louisiana from enforcing the new law.
- 1288 - A shareholders' company is formed to safeguard mining of the Falu Copper Mine.
- 1650 - The Nuremberg agreement is signed between Sweden and Imperialists for the phased withdrawal of all troops in areas of Germany not ceded to France, Sweden, or the Emperor.
- 1969 - A & W launches its first national television commercials, during Monday Night at the Movies, to promote take-home gallons of root beer.
- 1986 - The A & W Brands begins using an image of their oval A & W logo with stylized "Cream Soda" underneath in red and blue.

- 2008 - In France, the 24 Hours of Le Mans race concludes. Audi scores its fifth straight victory, with drivers Allan McNish of Scotland, Rinaldo Capello of Italy, and Tom Kristensen of Denmark. This is a record eighth victory for Kristensen.
- 2008 - Tiger Woods wins the U.S. Open at Torrey Pines in San Diego, California. This is Woods' 14th major and third U.S. Open.
- 2022 - At T-Mobile Park in Seattle, Washington, USA, Major League Baseball regular season game: Los Angeles Angels beats Seattle Mariners by score 4-1.
