- 1993 - John Sculley steps down as CEO of Apple Computer, remaining as chairman.
- 1993 - The Apple Computer board of directors appoints Michael Spindler as CEO of the company.
- 2001 - Palm announces the Jordan m100 and Jordan m500 handheld computers. The units are the result of a US$3.5 million three-year deal with basketball star Michael Jordan. The hardware is the same as regular Palm handhelds, except for the name "Jordan" on the case. Special software related to Jordan, basketball, and games are included. List prices are US$159 and US$425 respectively.
- 2004 - The Fox Broadcasting Company airs The Fairly Oddparents TV show in the US. A laptop computer is used to run a "Virtual Camper Program", with virtual reality goggles.
- 1925 - Animation work begins on the Alice Comedy film Alice's Tin Pony.
- 1954 - Disney releases the animated short film The Martins and the Coys to theaters. It was originally released as part of the film Make Mine Music.
- 1954 - Disney releases the animated short film Casey Bats Again to theaters.
- 1959 - Disney releases the animated and live-action short film Eyes in Outer Space to theaters.
- 1985 - James P. Jimirro, president of The Disney Channel, resigns.
- 1988 - The Mickey's Birthdayland area opens near Fantasyland in the Magic Kingdom at Walt Disney World.
- 1988 - The Minnie's Surprise Birthday Party show opens in Mickey's Birthdayland in the Magic Kingdom at Walt Disney World.
- 1989 - The NBC TV network airs The Magical World of Disney show, entitled Davy Crockett: Warrior's Farewell.
- 1994 - The NBC TV network airs the last show of Nurses.
- 1995 - The Lifetime cable network airs a preview of the Wedding Pavilion at Walt Disney World, and shows the first wedding held there.
- 1996 - First residents of Celebration town in Walt Disney World begin moving in to their houses.
- 2002 - Walt Disney Home Entertainment releases the film Air Bud: Seventh Inning Fetch on videocassette in the USA.
- 2002 - Disney releases the film Max Keeble's Big Move on DVD and videocassette.
- 2010 - Disney releases the Pixar animated short film Day & Night to theaters in the US.
- 2010 - Disney releases the animated film Toy Story 3 in theaters in the USA.
- 2015 - The ABC TV network premieres The Astronaut Wives TV show.
- 1960 - At the Road America race track in Elkhart Lake, Wisconsin, an SCCA car race is held. Finishing 2nd overall and 1st in C Modified is the #11 Sting Ray racer, driven by Dick Thompson.
- 1988 - At the Portland International Raceway in Portland, Oregon, the fourth round of the SCCA Corvette Challenge race series is held. Finishing 1st is Juan Manuel Fangio II in the Erickson Racing #2 1988 Corvette.
- 1993 - Columbia Pictures releases the film Last Action Hero to theaters in the USA. A current (1992?) light gray Corvette convertible appears briefly.
- 1994 - At the Circuit de la Sarthe in Le Mans, France, the 24 Heures du Mans race is held, over two days. Reeves Callaway enters the #51 Callaway SuperNatural Corvette LM in GT2 class, driven by Boris Said III, Michel Maisonneuve, and Frank Jelinski. At midnight, the car is leading in GT2 class, 8th overall. But at 2:52 AM, the car runs out of gas, due to fuel economy miscalculation. At 5:35 AM, the crew refuels the car on the course, grounds for disqualification.
- 2001 - Ghana issues a 6000 cedi postage stamp depicting a 1966 Corvette.
- 2005 - At the Portland International Raceway in Portland, Oregon, the Champ Car Grand Prix of Portland race is held, round two of the Trans-Am Series.
- Finishing 2nd is the Derhaag Motorsports #49 Corvette, driven by Randy Ruhlman.

- 2005 - At the Circuit de la Sarthe in France, the 24 Hours of Le Mans race is held, over two days.
- Finishing 1st in GT1 class and 5th overall is the #64 Corvette C6-R driven by Oliver Gavin, Olivier Beretta, and Jan Magnussen.
- Finishing 2nd in GT1 class and 6th overall is the #63 Corvette C6-R driven by Ron Fellows, Johnny O'Connell, and Max Papis.
- 1935 - England and Germany sign a naval treaty, limiting the German surface fleet to 35 percent of British tonnage, and submarine fleet to 45 percent.
- 1938 - Adolf Hitler issues "General Guiding Directive" for Operation Green, claiming no danger of Allied intervention.
- 1940 - In Canada, Prime Minister William King introduces the National Resources Mobilization Act in the House of Commons. The bill would require Canadians to register for national service within Canada, and give the government control of Canadian property for the duration of the war.
- 1940 - German Foreign Minister Joachim von Ribbentrop informs the Swedish Minister in Berlin, Germany, that if Sweden resists the German use of Swedish railways to transport troops and supplies to Norway, it would have dire consequences.
- 1940 - Sweden receives a reply from Britain regarding expectations in Norway, indicating that Britain might have to make peace with Germany.
- 1940 - The Swedish government agrees to allow German troops to pass from Trelleborg, Sweden, to Oslo, Norway, via Swedish railways.
- 1940 - The British Royal Air Force attacks Hamburg and Bremen, Germany.
- 1940 - At Ecole de Cavalerie (Cavalry School) at Saumur, France, about 800 teenage cadets and about 1200 retreating French soldiers engage the German 1st Cavalry Division for nearly three days.
- 1940 - British Prime Minister Winston Churchill makes a speech in the House of Commons, including "The white fury and might of the enemy must very soon be turned on us. Hitler knows that he will have to break us in this island or lose the war.".
- 1940 - (evening) French General Charles de Gaulle broadcasts on BBC radio in London, appealing to French officers, soldiers, engineers, and others to resist Marshal Pétain and to fight on for France.
- 1941 - Turkey and Germany sign a Treaty of Non-Aggression.
- 1942 - Jan Kubis, Josef Gabcik, and five other commandos are killed, or kill themselves in St. Cyril & St. Methodius church in Prague.
- 1943 - In England, Dr. R.V. Jones studies aerial reconnaissance photos of Peenemünde from June 12, and discovers what he concludes is a rocket, about 35 feet long, with five-foot diameter.
- 1943 - The British "RDF" or "radiolocation" technology is renamed "radar".
- 1944 - A German V-1 bomb hits the Wellington Barracks of the Royal Military Chapel in England, killing 63 servicemen, 58 civilians, and injuring 68.
- 1944 - The neck of the Cotentin peninsula in Northern France is cut by US forces.
- 1945 - US President Harry Truman meets with top military advisors. They recommend an invasion of Kyushu before November, with 766,000 American troops, with a decisive campaign on Honshu in 1946. Estimated American casualties in the first thirty days of Kyushu are 31,000 (later revised to 132,000).
- 1960 - France issues a postage stamp marking the 20th anniversary of the French Resistance Movement.
- 1964 - France issues a postage stamp marking the 20th anniversary of liberation, depicting Charles de Gaulle's 1940 poster to all Frenchmen.
- 1990 - St. Pierre & Miquelon issues a postage stamp marking the 50th anniversary of Charles de Gaulle's call for French resistance.
- 1993 - France issues two postage stamps honoring the martyrs and heroes of the resistance during the war.
- 2004 - Palau issues seven postage stamps remembering the 60th anniversary of D-Day.
- 2005 - Kyrgyzstan issues 20 postage stamps marking the 60th anniversary of the end of World War II.
- 2003 - Capcom releases the Resident Evil Dead Aim video game for the PlayStation 2 in the US.
- 890 - A fleet of 200 Viking warrior ships from Kiev arrives at Constantinople, capital of the Byzantine empire. For ten days they brutally attack, then leave.
- 1940 - Sweden receives a reply from Britain regarding expectations in Norway, indicating that Britain might have to make peace with Germany.
- 2010 - The Swedish parliament narrowly approves (174 to 172) the replacement of old nuclear reactors with new ones, reversing the 1980 decision to phase out nuclear reactors by 2010.
- 2012 - The Royal Canadian Mint releases the $2 coin commemorating the 200th anniversary of the War of 1812 to circulation.
- 1945 - The Secret Service confiscates F.C.C. Boyd's 1933 Saint-Gaudens gold $20 double eagle.
- 1915 - Jerome Travers becomes the second amateur to win golf's US Open.
- 1916 - New York Yankees score in every inning but 8th beating Cleveland Indians 19-3.
- 1947 - Cincinnati Reds' Ewell Blackwell no-hits Boston Braves, 6-0.
- 1948 - Philadelphia Phillies' pitching great Robin Roberts debuts, loses 2-0 to Pittsburgh Pirates.
- 1953 - Eugene Stephens gets three hits and Boston Red Sox score 17 runs in one inning (7th).
- 1960 - San Francisco Giants hire Tom Sheehan as baseball's oldest debuting manager (66).
- 1967 - Houston Astros' Don Wilson no-hits Atlanta Braves, 2-0.
- 1973 - NCAA makes urine testing mandatory for participants.
- 1975 - Fred Lynn gets ten RBIs in a Boston Red Sox 15-1 victory over Detroit Tigers.
- 1976 - NBA and ABA agree to merge.
- 1977 - Billy Martin and Reggie Jackson get into a dug-out altercation.
- 1979 - Billy Martin returns to dugout to manage the New York Yankees for second time.
- 1986 - San Francisco Giants' Robby Thompson sets a major league record when he is thrown out four times trying to steal in the 12-inning 7-6 victory over the Cincinnati Reds.
- 1986 - Don Sutton of the California Angels becomes 19th pitcher to win 300 games.
- 1989 - Curtis Strange wins his second US golf open.
- 1990 - First ever loss for Cameroon in the World Cup, USSR-4 Cameroon-0.
- 1990 - First sudden death US Open Golf Championship is won by Hale Irwin.
- 1991 - San Francisco Giants' pitcher Dave Dravecky's cancerous left arm is amputated.
- 1991 - New York Yankees' pitchers pick-off three Toronto Blue Jays.
- 2000 - The Oakland Athletics beat the Kansas City Royals 21-3; the 18-run difference is largest margin of victory for the Athletics and the largest margin of defeat for the Royals in the teams' respective histories.

- 1993 - John Sculley steps down as CEO of Apple Computer, remaining as chairman. The board of directors names Michael Spindler as new CEO.
- 1999 - The Second Global Street Party is held around world including Bangladesh, USA, Uruguay, Spain, Germany, England (10,000 in London), Switzerland, Nigeria (10,000 in Port Harcourt).
- 2007 - Nine Charleston, South Carolina firefighters are killed by a roof collapse while battling a furniture store fire.
- 2010 - Convicted murderer Ronnie Lee Gardner (age 49) is executed by firing squad in Draper (Salt Lake City), Utah, USA. Gardner spent 25 years in prison on death row for the murder of a lawyer during an attempt to escape a court hearing. This is the first execution by firing squad in the USA in 14 years.
- 2019 - The U.S. sends an additional 1,000 troops to the Middle East as tensions build with Iran.
- 2022 - Flooding washes out a road into Yellowstone National Park, closing the park for several days.
