Personal computer history:

  • 1989 - Lotus Development releases Lotus 1-2-3 3.0 for MS-DOS and OS/2, two years after its initial announcement. Price is US$495; upgrade price is US$150.
  • 1989 - IBM announces the 486/25 Power Platform processor upgrade kit for the IBM PS/2 Model 70-A21. Price is US$3995.
  • 1995 - In New York City, New York, the PC Expo trade show is held, over three days.
  • 1999 - The TNT television network airs the film Pirates of Silicon Valley in the US. The film is about Steve Jobs and Bill Gates in the early days of the personal computer industry.
  • 2001 - Comedy Central airs the South Park TV show in the USA. Several personal computers appear on the desks of a TV show.

Walt Disney Company history:

  • 1930 - Disney completes the Mickey Mouse film The Fire Fighters. Minnie Mouse also appears.
  • 1936 - The Mickey Mouse film Mickey's Rival is released to theaters. Minnie Mouse also appears. Mortimer Mouse makes his debut.
  • 1936 - The Mickey Mouse film Moving Day is released to theaters. Donald Duck and Goofy also appear.
  • 1941 - RKO Radio Pictures releases Disney's animated and live-action feature film The Reluctant Dragon to theaters. The premiere is held at the Pantages Theater in Hollywood. For the most part, this is Disney's first live-action film. It cost US$600,000 to make. The animated Goofy short film How to Ride a Horse, and the animated short film The Reluctant Dragon are included.
  • 1941 - The Mickey Mouse film The Nifty Nineties is released to theaters. Donald Duck, Minnie Mouse, and Goofy also appear.
  • 1947 - The Donald Duck film Clown of the Jungle is released.
  • 1953 - The Goofy film Father's Weekend is released.
  • 1956 - Buena Vista releases Disney's live-action feature film The Great Locomotive Chase to theaters in the US.
  • 1973 - Buena Vista releases the live-action feature film One Little Indian to theaters.
  • 1976 - The River Country water park opens at Walt Disney World.
  • 1984 - Disney stock drops to US$46 per share.
  • 1989 - Bhutan issues 24 postage stamps marking the 60th anniversary of Mickey Mouse.
  • 1992 - The NBC TV network airs the last episode of the TV show The Torkelsons.
  • 1995 - Touchstone Home Video releases the film Slam Dunk Ernest on videocassette.
  • 1995 - The Walt Disney Company announces plans for a fourth theme park in Florida, Disney's Animal Kingdom. The new park is expected to cost US$760 million to create, over a 200-hectare area. It is due to open in 1998.
  • 1995 - The ExtraTERRORestrial Alien Encounter attraction opens in Tomorrowland in the Magic Kingdom at Walt Disney World.
  • 1999 - The 20th Century Music Company opens on Main Street at Disneyland.
  • 2001 - Peter Schneider announces he is leaving Disney as chairman of the film studio.
  • 2001 - Comedy Central airs the South Park TV show in the USA. A kid has four tickets to "The Lion King On Stage".
  • 2001 - The ABC TV network premieres The Beast TV series.
  • 2008 - The Disney Channel premieres the Disney Channel Original Movie Camp Rock.
  • 2012 - The Freeform TV network premieres the Baby Daddy TV show.

Chevrolet Corvette history:

  • 1959 - SCCA National races are held at the Road America raceway in Elkhart Lake, Wisconsin, over two days. John Fitch races the Sting Ray racer to fourth place.
  • 2004 - At the Watkins Glen International raceway in Watkins Glen, New York, the Sahlen's Six Hours of The Glen race is held, round five of the Grand American Rolex Sports Car Series.
    • Finishing 13th in SGS class and 36th overall is the Michael Baughman Racing #46 Corvette, driven by Nick Longhi, Mark Patterson, and John Pew.
    • Finishing 12th in GT class and 41st overall is the Specter Werks #24 Corvette, driven by Tom Bambard, Jeff Nowicki.

  • 2009 - At the Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course the Mid-Ohio 250 Miles race is held, round 6 of the Grand-Am Rolex Sports Car Series.
    • Finishing 10th in GT class and 22nd overall is Nonnamaker/Nonnamaker in the #43 Team Sahlen Corvette.

World War II history:

  • 1940 - The British Air Ministry sends a directive to Bomber Command, instructing it to focus attacks on German aircraft.
  • 1940 - 47 British Blenheim bombers raid German airfields at Rouen and Schipol. All aircraft return.
  • 1942 - Japanese submarine I-26 is sighted off Estevan, British Columbia, Canada.
  • 1942 - Japanese submarine I-26 shells the lighthouse at Estevan Point on Vancouver Island, British Columbia, Canada. This may be the only place in Canada shelled during the war.
  • 1942 - (0520 hours) German General Erwin Rommel's army attacks Tobruk, Libya, with artillery and Junkers Ju-87 Stuka dive bombers.
  • 1942 - (about 0800 hours) German motorized infantry begins movement toward Tobruk from the southeast.
  • 1942 - (2200 hours) Units of 21st Panzer reach Tobruk town and harbor.
  • 1943 - (evening) 56 British Lancasters and four Pathfinder Lancasters attack the Zeppelin works at Friedrichshafen. No planes are lost, and considerable damage is done.
  • 1994 - Guyana issues 24 postage stamps depicting World War II.

Video game history:

  • 2017 - Housemarque releases the Nex Machina video game for the PlayStation 4 in the USA.

Swedish history:

  • 1641 - France and Sweden sign the Treaty of Hamburg. Sweden receives increased monetary subsidies from France, and agrees to continue fighting for the duration of the war.
  • 1810 - In Stockholm, a funeral procession for the late Karl August is lead by marshal Axel von Fersen. Fersen is accused of poisoning Prince Karl, and is slowly beaten to death while soldiers and police look on.

A&W Root Beer history:

  • 1919 - Roy W. Allen opens his first root beer stand, at 13 West Pine Street in Lodi, California. Allen gives away his root beer during a celebration of returning soldiers from the world war.
  • 2005 - A & W Restaurants in the US celebrates its 86th anniversary and the first day of summer with the second annual National Float Day. Participating restaurants give away a free A & W Root Beer Float with any purchase from 2 p.m. to 8 p.m.

Canadian coin history:

  • 1922 - Export of gold coins is prohibited.

USA coin history:

  • 2012 - Representatives Lamar Smith of Texas and Fred Upton of Michigan introduce H.R. 5977 the "Collectible Coin Protection Act", to amend the Hobby Protection Act with additional aids in protecting the coin collecting hobby from counterfeit coins and packaging.
  • 2013 - At Great Basin National Park Visitor Center in Baker, Nevada, official coin launch of 2013 Great Basic National Park quarter dollar.

Sports history:

  • 1912 - New York Giants' Josh Devore steals four bases in an inning (second and third twice).
  • 1920 - New York Yankees win protest of 1-0 Chicago White Sox win and game is replayed.
  • 1936 - Jesse Owens of the US sets 100m record at 10.2 seconds.
  • 1943 - Sweden's Gunther Hagg beats favorite Greg Rice by 35 yards in 5000m at national Amateur Athletic Union track and field championship in New York.
  • 1950 - Joe Dimaggio's 2,000th hit, New York Yankees beat Cleveland Indians 8-2.
  • 1963 - First Mayor's Trophy Game, New York Mets beat New York Yankees 6-2.
  • 1967 - Philadelphia Phillies' Larry Jackson beats New York Mets for 18th straight time.
  • 1968 - Jim Hines becomes first person to run 100 metres in under 10 seconds.
  • 1970 - Baltimore Orioles' Brooks Robinson get his 2,000 career hit, a three run home run.
  • 1978 - First six teams of Women's Pro Basketball League (WBL) granted-Iowa.
  • 1982 - Pete Rose becomes the fifth major leaguer to appear in 3000 games.
  • 1983 - New York Yankees' Bobby Murcer retires.
  • 1988 - New York City WABC-AM becomes the flagship radio station of the New Jersey Devils.
  • 1993 - John Paxson's three-point shot in Game six of the National Basketball Association Finals helps the Chicago Bulls secure a 99-98 win over the Phoenix Suns, and their third consecutive championship.
  • 2001 - With his 38th homerun of the season, Barry Bonds breaks the major league record for home runs hit before the All-Star game.
  • 2004 - Ken Griffey, Junior of the Cincinnati Reds hits his 500th career home run, the 20th major league player to reach this mark.
  • 2004 - Retief Goosen wins the U.S. Open at Shinnecock Hills Golf Club.
  • 2006 - The Miami Heat win the NBA Finals over the Dallas Mavericks, 4-2.
  • 2007 - The Argentinian team Boca Juniors beat the Brazilian team Grêmio to win the Copa Libertadores 2007.
  • 2010 - Britain's Graeme McDowell takes a one-shot victory to win the U.S. Open of golf at the Pebble Beach Golf links in California, the first European win in 40 years.
  • 2022 - At Amalie Arena in Tampa, Florida, USA, NHL Stanley Cup Final, game 3: Tampa Bay Lightning beats Colorado Avalanche by score 6-2, Avalanche leading series 2-1.
  • 2022 - International Swimming Federation gender inclusion policy goes into effect, allowing only people who transitioned before age 12 to compete in women's events.
  • 2022 - At Petco Park in San Diego, California, USA, Major League Baseball regular season game: San Diego Padres beats Arizona Diamondbacks by score 4-1.
  • 2022 - At Angel Stadium in Anaheim, California, USA, Major League Baseball regular season game: Kansas City Royals beats Los Angeles Angels by score 6-2.
  • 2022 - At Guaranteed Rate Field in Chicago, Illinois, USA, Major League Baseball regular season game: Chicago White Sox beats Toronto Blue Jays by score 8-7.
  • 2022 - At American Family Field in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, USA, Major League Baseball regular season game: Milwaukee Brewers beats Saint Louis Cardinals by score 2-0.
  • 2022 - At Truist Park in Atlanta, Georgia, USA, Major League Baseball regular season game: Atlanta Braves beats San Francisco Giants by score 2-1.
  • 2022 - At Tropicana Field in Saint Petersburg, Florida, USA, Major League Baseball regular season game: Tampa Bay Rays beats New York Yankees by score 4-2.

  • 2022 - At Citi Field in New York City, New York, USA, Major League Baseball regular season game: New York Mets beats Miami Marlins by score 6-0.

Space exploration history:

  • 1895 - A Charlois discovers asteroid #404 Arsinoe.
  • 1939 - C Jackson discovers asteroid #1817 Katanga.
  • 1974 - Felix Aguilar Observatory discovers asteroid #2124 Nissen.
  • 1990 - The asteroid Eureka is discovered.
  • 2008 - The Janus-2 satellite is launched from the Vandenberg Air Force Base in California, atop a Delta-2 rocket. The satellite will be used for measuring the shape of the world's oceans.
  • 2009 - Ground is broken in New Mexico, USA, on the construction site of Spaceport America, the world's first purpose-built commercial spaceport. It will cost the New Mexico government almost US$200 million.

Extreme weather history:

  • 2010 - Rain and landslides in southern China kill 132 people, with 86 others missing. An estimated 68,000 houses are damaged and 800,000 residents are evacuated.

USA history:

  • 1782 - US Congress approves a written description of the Great Seal of the USA and the eagle as its symbol.
  • 1863 - First bank chartered in US (National Bank of Davenport, Iowa).
  • 1863 - West Virginia admitted as 35th US state.
  • 1864 - US Congress forbids gold trading.
  • 1867 - US President Andrew Johnson announces purchase of Alaska from Russia.
  • 1874 - First US Lifesaving Medal awarded (Lucian Clemons).
  • 1911 - NAACP incorporates in New York.
  • 1919 - Roy W. Allen opens his first root beer stand, in Lodi, California. His root beer sells for 5 cents a glass.
  • 1921 - 29.2 cm (11.5 inches) of rainfall in Circle, Montana (state record).
  • 1943 - National Congress of Racial Equality organizes.
  • 1946 - Bill Harrah opens Harrah's Club in Las Vegas.
  • 1947 - Death of Benjamin "Bugsy" Siegel, gangster, operator of the Flamingo Hotel/casino in Las Vegas, is shot dead in Beverly Hills, California.
  • 1947 - US President Harry Truman vetoes Taft-Hartley Act.
  • 1960 - In Burbank, California, the 12th Annual Emmy Awards are presented, hosted by Fred Astaire.

  • 1977 - Oil first enters Trans-Alaska pipeline, exits 38 days later at Valdez.
  • 1979 - A Nicaraguan National Guard soldier kills ABC TV news correspondent Bill Stewart and his interpreter Juan Espinosa. Other members of the news crew capture the killing on tape.
