Personal computer history:

  • 1998 - A federal Court of Appeals rules that Microsoft did not violate its consent decree by bundling Internet Explorer with the Windows operating system. Judge Jackson's order for Microsoft to separate the browser from Windows is overruled.
  • 1999 - Advanced Micro Devices announces that it will market the processor code-named K7 as the Athlon processor. The company announces it has started shipping 500 to 600 MHz processors to computer manufacturers.
  • 2003 - Microsoft announces the new name for its mobile computing operating system: Windows Mobile 2003.
  • 2003 - Intel releases the 3.2 GHz Pentium 4 processor. It features Hyper-Threading, and system bus up to 800 MHz. Price is US$637 in 1000 unit quantities.
  • 2003 - In San Jose, California, Apple Computer holds its Worldwide Developers' Conference, over five days. Apple Computer announces new Power Mac G5 computers with Power PC 970 processors operating at up to 2 GHz. The computers are scheduled to be available in August. Steve Jobs also shows a new version of the Mac OS X 10.3, code-named Panther.
  • 2004 - Intel releases the Pentium M 715 and 725, in speeds 1.5 and 1.6 GHz, respectively. Prices are US$209 and US$241, respectively, in 1000-unit quantities.
  • 2008 - Research firm Gartner estimates that the number of personal computers in use around the world has surpassed 1 billion.

Walt Disney Company history:

  • 1925 - The Rivoli Theater in New York City premieres the Alice Comedy film Alice Stage Struck.
  • 1944 - The Pluto film Springtime for Pluto is released to theaters.
  • 1956 - The Skyway to Tomorrowland begins operation in Fantasyland at Disneyland.
  • 1956 - The Skyway to Fantasyland begins operation in Tomorrowland at Disneyland.
  • 1963 - The Enchanted Tiki Room attraction opens in Adventureland at Disneyland. This is the first attraction with sophisticated Audio-Animatronic figures, 225 of them.
  • 1967 - Buena Vista premieres Disney's live-action feature film The Happiest Millionaire in Los Angeles, California. The film is based on the book and play by Kyle Crichton and Cordelia Drexel Biddle. This is the last film co-produced by Walt Disney. The film is almost three hours long in its original version.
  • 1987 - A US Federal District Court dismisses a lawsuit by Matthew Gentry against the Walt Disney Company, Eastman Kodak, and Michael Jackson. Gentry claimed copyright infringement violation of a work he had created.
  • 1989 - Buena Vista Pictures Distribution releases the Roger Rabbit animated short film Tummy Trouble to theaters.
  • 1989 - Buena Vista Pictures releases the Walt Disney Pictures live-action feature film Honey, I Shrunk the Kids to theaters. The movie script was entitled Teenie Weenies.
  • 1995 - Guyana issues nine postage stamps depicting scenes from the film Pocahontas.
  • 1995 - The name of the Videopolis in Disneyland is changed to Fantasyland Theater.
  • 1995 - The Spirit of Pocahontas show begins performances at the Fantasyland Theater at Disneyland.
  • 1995 - The name of the Yumz food facility at the Videopolis at Disneyland is changed to Meeko's.
  • 1995 - Buena Vista Pictures generally releases the animated feature film Pocahontas to theaters in the US.
  • 1998 - Walt Disney Home Video releases the film Mr. Magoo on videocassette in the US.
  • 2000 - In New York City, Sotheby's hosts an exhibition of art of Disney's Tarzan film and Fantasia/2000.
  • 2004 - The United States Postal Service issues four different 37-cent stamps titled The Art of Disney: Friendship. They feature Mickey Mouse, Bambi, Simba, and Pinocchio, each with friends.
  • 2013 - The Lifetime TV network premieres the ABC Studios TV series Devious Maids.

Chevrolet Corvette history:

  • 1962 - In Le Mans, France, the 24 Hours of Le Mans race is held, over two days. Tony Settember and John Turner race Hugh Powell's Scuderia Scirocco #1 Corvette, but retire on the 14th hour with transmission and piston trouble.
  • 1984 - At the Detroit, Michigan, the Pontiac Trans-Am 100 / SCCA Budweiser Trans-Am Championship - Round 5 race is held.
    • Finishing 8th is the Brandt Racing #60 1981 Corvette, driven by John Brandt.
    • Finishing 9th is the Cavendish Farms #70 Corvette, driven by Murray Edwards.
    • Finishing 11th is the Quaker Manufacturing #26 1984 Corvette, driven by Dan Furey.
    • In 18th place, but not finishing the race, is the DeAtley Budweiser #0 Corvette, driven by Michael Andretti.
    • In 19th place, but not finishing the race, is the Durovy Racing #17 1984 Corvette, driven by Dick Danielson.
    • In 23rd place, but not finishing the race, is the Deman Racing #69 Corvette, driven by Peter Deman.
    • In 28th place, but not finishing the race, is the DeAtley Budweiser #3 1984 Corvette, driven by Darin Brassfield.

  • 1988 - The Bloomington Gold Corvette show is held, over four days. Over 800 cars and 35,000 people attend. The Special Collection "Earthquake '88" features 52 L-88 Corvettes.
  • 1989 - Bloomington Gold / Corvettes USA is held over four days, with 30,000 attending. A 1967 with 435-hp 427-ci engine sells at auction for US$90,000.
  • 1994 - At the Illinois State Fairgrounds in Springfield Illinois, The 22nd annual Bloomington Gold Corvettes USA show is held, over four days. 32,000 people attend.
  • 2001 - At the Mosport raceway in Bowmanville, Ontario, Canada, Round 3? of the Grand-Am Cup Street Stock Series is held. Finishing 1st in SGS class and 1st overall is the Powell Motorsport #11 Corvette Z06, driven by Devan Powell and Doug Goad.
  • 2002 - At the Watkins Glen International raceway in Watkins Glen, New York, the Six Hours of The Glen race is held, Round 5 of the Grand American Rolex Sports Car Series.
    • Finishing 1st in AGT class and 9th overall is the Morgan Dollar Motorsports #47 Corvette, driven by Rob Morgan and Charles Morgan.
    • Finishing 2nd in AGT class and 18th overall is the Paladin Racing #91 Corvette, driven by Mark Brannon, Steven Lisa, and David Rosenblum.
    • In 3rd place in AGT class and 20th overall, but not finishing the race, is the Flis Motorsports #90 Corvette, driven by Doug Goad, Andrew Kopperl, and Jim Briody.
    • In 6th place in AGT class and 34th overall, but not finishing the race, is the ACP Motorsports #19 Corvette, driven by Kerry Hitt, Owen Trinkler, and Doug Mills.
    • In 7th place in AGT class and 35th overall, but not finishing the race, is the Morgan Dollar Motorsports #46 Corvette, driven by Andrew Richards, Stephen Richards, and Dennis Setzer.
    • In 9th place in AGT class and 37th overall, but not finishing the race, is the Flis Motorsports #09 Corvette, driven by Joe Nonnamaker.

  • 2007 - (to June 24) The Swiss Corvette Club International holds its 30th anniversary Corvette Euro-Meet at Hockenheim Grand Prix circuit in Germany.

World War II history:

  • 1940 - The British government severs relations with the French government, and recognizes the French National Committee.
  • 1940 - Germany begins preparations for an attack on the USSR.
  • 1940 - British commandos make their first raid on Europe, near Le Touquet, France.
  • 1941 - At an official conference in Japan of army-navy executives and civilian government representatives, the decision is made to adopt a north-south integration strategy. The military would be ready to move in either or both directions, depending on future events.
  • 1941 - Britain completes the first chain of three GEE aircraft guidance stations.
  • 1942 - German forces in North Africa cross from Libya into Egypt.
  • 1945 - Six American CG-4A gliders and one CG-13 glider land at Camalaniugan Airstrip in Luzon, Philippines.
  • 1969 - Fiji issues three postage stamps marking the 25th anniversary of the Fiji Military Forces campaign in the Solomon Islands during World War II.

Video game history:

  • 1991 - Sega Enterprises introduces the Sonic the Hedgehog video game for the Genesis and Game Gear video game systems in the US. The game was created by Haoto Oshima, Hirokazu Yashuhara, and Yuji Naka in 14 months.
  • 1994 - At the Summer Consumer Electronics Show in Chicago, Nintendo announces the release name for Project Reality: Ultra 64, and gives screenings to small groups.
  • 1994 - At the Summer Consumer Electronics Show, Sega of America releases the 32X peripheral for the Genesis video game system. It features two Hitachi 32-bit RISC chips, and 3D graphics processor. Price is $159. Code name during development was Mars.
  • 1996 - In Japan, Nintendo ships the Nintendo 64 video game system. Price is 25,000 yen. It features 64-bit 93.75 MHz MIPS R4000 Series RISC main processor, 64-bit 62.5 MHz graphics and sound coprocessor, 4.5 MB of RAM, 32-bit color at 640x480 resolution, four control ports.
  • 1996 - Nintendo releases the Super Mario 64 video game for the Nintendo 64 in Japan. The game was developed at Nintendo by Shigeru Miyamoto.
  • 1996 - Nintendo releases the PilotWings 64 video game for the Nintendo 64 in Japan.
  • 1997 - The United States Supreme Court refuses to review the case of Alpex vs. Nintendo of America, letting stand the verdict that Nintendo had not infringed on a patent owned by Alpex.
  • 2001 - Sega releases a special edition Sonic Adventure 2 Birthday Pack for the Dreamcast in Japan, available for two days only. The package includes Sonic Adventure 2 video game, a special music CD, 10th anniversary gold medal, and Sonic the Hedgehog series history booklet.
  • 2003 - Nintendo releases the Advance Wars 2: Black Hole Rising video game for the Game Boy Advance in the US. Price is US$29.99.
  • 2008 - Electronic Arts releases the Battlefield: Bad Company video game for the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 in the USA.

Swedish history:

  • 1643 - The Spanish begin peace negotiations with France and Sweden.
  • 1743 - Peace with Russia is signed at Åbo. Part of south-east Finland is ceded to Russia. Adolf Fredrik of Holstein-Gottorp is elected as heir to the Swedish throne.

Canadian coin history:

  • 1987 - Several hundred new dollar coins are released early, in Calgary, Alberta, due to a miscommunication.
  • 2009 - In Calgary, Alberta, the Royal Canadian Mint releases a 2008-dated circulating 25-cent Vancouver 2010 Olympic Games coin depicting bobsledding. The design was created by Glenn Green.

Sports history:

  • 1915 - New York Yankees get record 16 walks and three wild pitches, beating Philadelphia Athletics pitcher Bruno Hass, 15-0.
  • 1917 - Molla Bjurstedt wins the US Lawn Tennis Association title.
  • 1927 - Lou Gehrig hits three home runs in 11-4 victory over Boston Red Sox.
  • 1930 - Chicago Cubs beat Philadelphia Phillies 21-8.
  • 1950 - New York Yankees and Detroit Tigers hit record 11 home runs, Detroit Tigers win 10-9.
  • 1961 - Philadelphia Phillies overcome 9-0, losing 11-2 they score 4 in 8th and six in 9th.
  • 1963 - Julius Boros wins golf's US Open.
  • 1963 - New York Mets' Jimmy Piersall, hits his 100th home run, he circles bases backwards.
  • 1967 - Jim Ryun sets mile record of 3:51.1 (Bakersfield, California).
  • 1969 - Joe Frazier beats Jerry Quarry for the heavyweight boxing title.
  • 1972 - US President Richard Nixon signs act barring sex discrimination in college sports.
  • 1973 - Philadelphia Phillies' Ken Brett's fourth consecutive game home run in which he pitched.
  • 1974 - Sandra Haynie wins the LPGA by two strokes over JoAnne Carner.
  • 1977 - 13th Mayor's Trophy Game, New York Mets beat New York Yankees 6-4.
  • 1981 - 33-inning game ends, Pawtucket 3, Rochester 2 (started April 18).
  • 1985 - Laffit Pncay Junior becomes the second jockey to win US$100 million.
  • 1988 - Charlotte Hornets and Miami Heat begin their NBA expansion draft.
  • 1988 - New York Yankees' manager Billy Martin's 5th term ends, Lou Pinella named manager.
  • 2003 - Barry Bonds becomes the first major league baseball player to hit 500 homers and steal 500 bases in his career.
  • 2005 - The San Antonio Spurs defeat the Detroit Pistons in Game 7 of the 2005 NBA Finals. The series is the first NBA Finals in 11 years to go to a seventh game.
  • 2008 - Seattle Mariners' pitcher Felix Hernandez become the first American League pitcher to hit a grand slam home run in 37 years.
  • 2009 - Lucas Glover wins the U.S. Open of golf at the Bethpage Black course on Long Island, New York. Glover takes home US$1.35 million for his 4-under par win.
  • 2010 - The first-round tennis contest between American John Isner and Nicolas Mahut of France at Wimbledon ends for the day tied at 59-59 (ten hours play), becoming the longest in tennis history. The match had already been suspended on June 22 after 3 hours of play.
  • 2021 - New Zealand wins the 2019-2021 International Cricket Council World Test Championship.
  • 2022 - At Petco Park in San Diego, California, USA, Major League Baseball regular season game: Philadelphia Phillies beats San Diego Padres by score 6-2.
  • 2022 - At Guaranteed Rate Field in Chicago, Illinois, USA, Major League Baseball regular season game: Baltimore Orioles beats Chicago White Sox by score 4-0.
  • 2022 - At Yankee Stadium in the Bronx, New York, USA, Major League Baseball regular season game: New York Yankees beats Houston Astros by score 7-6.
  • 2022 - At RingCentral Coliseum, Oakland, California, USA, Major League Baseball regular season game: Seattle Mariners beats Oakland Athletics by score 2-1.
  • 2022 - At American Family Field in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, USA, Major League Baseball regular season game: Milwaukee Brewers beats Saint Louis Cardinals by score 6-4.
  • 2022 - At Target Field in Minneapolis, Minnesota, USA, Major League Baseball regular season game: Minnesota Twins beats Cleveland Guardians by score 1-0.

Extreme weather history:

  • 2003 - The Supreme Court of the United States upholds affirmative action in university admissions.
  • 2006 - In Miami, Florida, the Federal Bureau of Investigation arrests seven men, accusing them of planning to bomb the Sears Tower and other attacks in Miami.
  • 2010 - US General Stanley McChrystal is forced to resign as US commander of forces in Afghanistan, replaced by General David Petraeus.
  • 2016 - The US Supreme Court upholds (4-3 decision) the right of the University of Texas to give consideration to skin color when admitting students.
  • 2022 - The US Supreme Court rules the 2nd Amendment provision to "keep and bear arms" does not allow individual states to use any discretion when issuing concealed-carry licences.
