- 1964 - Buena Vista releases Disney's live-action feature film The Moon-Spinners to theaters in the US. The film is based on the novel by Mary Stewart.
- 1974 - The first death of a Disneyland employee on duty is recorded. Deborah Stone is crushed between a moving wall and a stationary wall of the America Sings revolving theater.
- 1994 - Disney releases the animated feature film The Lion King to theaters in Hong Kong.
- 1994 - The Legend of the Lion King attraction opens in Fantasyland in the Magic Kindom of Walt Disney World.
- 1995 - The last episode of the TV series Empty Nest airs.
- 2005 - Roy Edward Disney is named director emeritus and consultant.
- 2005 - The Touchstone film Dark Water is released to theaters in the USA.
- 2008 - The Bibbidi Bobbidi Boutique store opens in the Tokyo Disneyland Hotel.
- 1953 - Corvette #003 (ES-127 to GM Engineering Staff) undergoes cold room shake testing for 14 hours. Tests conclude no serious body failure occurs.
- 1955 - Norm Brown begins his first day of work for Chevrolet. His first duty is to assist scrapping the Corvette Nomad show car, and possibly the Biscayne show car.
- 1962 - At Lake Garnett, Kansas, an SCCA race for A-, B-, and C-Production classes is held.

- 1944 - (before 0630 hours) Operation Charnwood begins near Caen, France. British 1st Corp begins an attack along an eight-mile front to clear Caen.

- 1944 - (0730 hours) Canadian troops begin to move on their objectives around Caen, France.
- 1944 - (0950 hours) Canadian troops capture Gruchy, north-west of Caen.

- 1995 - Sega releases the Saturn video game system in Europe. Price with Virtua Fighter in the UK is 399 pounds.
- 2007 - At the Electronic Entertainment Expo, Nintendo announces the Wii Zapper, a white plastic casing that holds the Wii remote and nunchuck analog stick. Release price is to be US$19.99. The upcoming Mario Kart video game for the Nintendo Wii will come with a white plastic wheel to hold the Wii remote. The upcoming title Wii Fit will include a new balance board controller that sense your weight and center of gravity.
- 2008 - 2K Games releases the Civilization Revolution video game for the PlayStation 3, Xbox 360, and Nintendo DS in the USA.
- 1319 - At Mora Stone in the parish of Lagga in Uppsala, Council assembles with representatives of nobility, clergy, lawmen, and peasants. Council elects three-year-old Prince Magnus Eriksson of Norway as King of Sweden. Chancellor Matts Kettilmundsson pledges an oath on the King's behalf not to introduce new taxes without the consent of Councillors of the Realm, not to appoint foreigners as Councillors or Royal bailiffs, and to govern by law and not imprison any person without due process of law. As Magnus has already been declared King of Norway, this unites most of the Scandinavian peninsula under one ruler, the largest empire in Europe.
- 1963 - The price of silver hits $1.29 per ounce making it worthwhile to redeem Silver Certificates for silver coins from the US Treasury.
- 1975 - The US Mint releases 1776-1976 Bicentennial quarter dollars to circulation.

- 1980 - National League beats American League 4-2 in 51st All Star Game (Dodger Stadium, Los Angeles, California).
- 1984 - John McEnroe beats Jimmy Connors for Wimbeldon singles.
- 1990 - Federal Republic of Germany defeats Argentina 1-0 for soccer's 14th FIFA World Cup at Rome, Italy.
- 1990 - Italy beats England in soccer's FIFA World Cup consolation game.
- 1990 - Stefan Edberg beats Boris Becker for Wimbeldon title.
- 1990 - Trailing 7-0, Milwaukee Brewers tie California Angels and then score 13 in 5th to win 20-7.
