  • 2002 - ATI Technologies releases a new Radeon graphics chip.
  • 2002 - At the Macworld Expo, Apple Computer introduces a new iMac computer with 17-inch flat panel display. Other features: 800 MHz PowerPC G4 with 256 kB L2 cache, 256 MB SDRAM, 80 GB hard drive, Nvidia GeForce4 MX with 32 MB VRAM, SuperDrive, speakers, 1440x900 graphics, 56 Kbps modem, 10/100 Base-T Ethernet. Price is US$1999.

Walt Disney Company history:

  • 1943 - United Artists releases Disney's animated and live-action feature film Victory Through Air Power to theaters. It cost US$788,000 to make. The film is based on the book by Major Alexander de Seversky.
  • 1955 - At 2:00 PM, Disneyland park opens, in Anaheim, California. Five themed areas are Main Street U.S.A., Frontierland, Fantasyland, Adventureland, and Tomorrowland. Eighteen attractions are ready for use. Based on an initial US$10,000 for planning, the final construction cost was US$17 million. 15,000 guests were invited, but attendance for the day is 28,000-33,000.
  • 1955 - Mouseketeers, the actors of the upcoming The Mickey Mouse Club TV show, make their first official TV appearance at Disneyland.
  • 1955 - The Santa Fe and Disneyland Railroad attraction opens in Disneyland. The two engines are the #1 C.K. Holliday, and the #2 E.P. Ripley.
  • 1955 - The Fire-Wagon horse-drawn Main Street vehicle begins operating at Disneyland.

  • 1962 - The Aunt Jemima's Kitchen restaurant opens in Frontierland at Disneyland. Former name was Aunt Jemima's Pancake House.
  • 1963 - Buena Vista releases Disney's live-action feature film Savage Sam to theaters. The film is a sequel to the film Old Yeller, and is based on the book by Fred Gibson.
  • 1985 - The Disney Channel airs Dateline: Disneyland, documenting the opening of the park thirty years ago.
  • 1987 - Disney re-releases the film Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs to theaters.
  • 1989 - PSA ends sponsorshop of the World Premiere Circle-Vision theater at Disneyland.
  • 1989 - The Splash Mountain attraction opens in Critter Country at Disneyland, after five years of planning. The ride features 103 Audio-Animatronic characters, some from the former America Sings attraction. This is the longest flume chute ride in the world.
  • 1989 - The Brer Bar opens in Critter Country in Disneyland. Formerly this location was the Mile Long Bar.
  • 1992 - Disney releases the Hollywood Pictures live-action feature film A Stranger Among Us to theatres.
  • 1992 - The Splash Mountain attraction opens in Frontierland in the Magic Kingdom at Walt Disney World.

  • 1999 - At Knebworth House in Essex, England, the 20th Annual Corvette Nationals of the Classic Corvette Club United Kingdom is held, over two days. 120 Corvettes take part in the longest convoy of Corvettes ever in England. 344 cars in total take part in the main event.
  • 2005 - At the Infineon Raceway in Sonoma, California, the Infineon Grand Prix of Sonoma race is held, round five of the American Le Mans Series.
    • Finishing 1st in GT1 class and 7th overall is the Corvette Racing #3 Corvette C6-R driven by Ron Fellows and Johnny O'Connell.
    • Finishing 2nd in GT1 class and 8th overall is the Corvette Racing #4 Corvette C6-R driven by Oliver Gavin and Olivier Beretta.
    • In 6th place in GT1 class and 21st overall, but not finishing the race, is the Corvette C5-R driven by Ryan Dalziel and Alex Figge.

  • 2021 - At the Lime Rock Park raceway in Lime Rock, Connecticut, USA, the Northeast Grand Prix race is held, round 7 of the IMSA WeatherTech Sportscar Championship series.

World War II history:

  • 1940 - Britain agrees to close the Burma Road to China for three months.
  • 1941 - First Spanish troops arrive in Bavaria, Germany, to begin training with the Wehrmacht for fighting against Soviet forces.
  • 1944 - Field Marshal Erwin Rommel's staff car is attacked near Livarot by British fighter planes. Rommel is severely wounded and hospitalized. Adolf Hitler removes him from command of Army Group B, replacing him with Field Marshal Günther von Kluge.
  • 1944 - Convoy HXS-300, with 167 ships, sails from New York bound for Ireland, under Canadian escort. It is the largest convoy of the war, and no ships are lost in transit.
  • 1945 - The British Pacific Fleet joins the US Third Fleet in attacks on Japan.
  • 1945 - American President Harry Truman, Soviet leader Josef Stalin, and British Prime Minister Winston Churchill meet at Schloss Cecilienhof in Potsdam near Berlin, Germany, beginning a 17-day conference. Partway through the conference, Chruchill is replaced by the newly elected British Prime Minister Clement Attlee. Peace terms are drafted, and discussions are held on Germany, Poland, and Japan. Stalin tells Truman that he believes Adolf Hitler did not commit suicide, but probably escaped.
  • 1985 - The USSR issues a postage stamp marking the 40th anniversary of the Potsdam Conference.

  • 1981 - Two skywalks filled with people at the Hyatt Regency Hotel in Kansas City, Missouri, USA collapse into a crowded atrium lobby, killing 114, injuring 200.
  • 1981 - Israeli aircraft bomb Beirut, destroying multi-storey apartment blocks containing the offices of PLO associated groups, killing approximately 300 civilians and resulting in worldwide condemnation and a U.S. embargo on the export of aircraft to Israel.
  • 1987 - Ten teens die in Guadalupe River flood (Comfort, Texas).
  • 1987 - The Dow Jones Industrial Average closes above the 2,500 mark for the first time, at 2,510.04.
  • 1988 - Highest temperature ever recorded in San Francisco, California: 103 degrees F (39 degrees C).
  • 1989 - The Splash Mountain attraction opens in Critter Country at Disneyland, after five years of planning. The ride features 103 Audio-Animatronic characters, some from the former America Sings attraction. This is the longest flume chute ride in the world.
  • 1989 - The B-2 Spirit Stealth Bomber first flies.
  • 1995 - The Nasdaq Composite stock market index closes above the 1,000 mark for the first time.
  • 1996 - Paris-bound TWA Flight 800 (Boeing 747) explodes off the coast of Long Island, New York, killing all 230 on board.
  • 2008 - American investment bank Merrill Lynch & Company posts a US$4.89 billion quarterly loss after writing down bad debts, and unveils plans to sell billions of dollars of assets.
  • 2016 - In Baton Rouge, Louisiana, three police officers are ambushed and killed by ex-serviceman Gavin Long.
