- 1987 - At the Macworld Expo show, Apple Computer introduces HyperCard (with script language HyperTalk), MultiFinder 5.0 co-operative multitasking, and AppleFax Modem for the Macintosh. The Hypercard software allows users to create database applications with "cards" containing text, graphics, sound, and animation, linked to each other via hypertext links. The software will ship for free with new Macintosh computers, and costs US$49 for existing Macintosh owners.
- 1987 - Advanced Micro Devices introduces its own processor compatible with Intel's 80286. AMD claims its processor is 28% faster.
- 2003 - The MSBlast computer worm is released to the Internet. It exploits a flaw in Microsoft Windows. Despite the existence of a software patch 26 days earlier, 9.5 million computers are affected.
- 2009 - Malaysia issues a 30-cent postage stamp depicting a personal computer.
- 1934 - The Mickey Mouse film Orphan's Benefit is released to theaters. Donald Duck, Goofy, Horace Horsecollar, and Clarabelle Cow also appear.
- 1939 - The Donald Duck film Donald's Penguin is released to theaters.
- 1943 - Disney produces the film Defense Against Invasion for the Coordinator of Inter-American Affairs.
- 1950 - The Pluto film Food for Feudin' is released. Chip 'n' Dale also appear.
- 1955 - The Casa de Fritos restaurant opens in Frontierland at Disneyland.
- 1991 - The Disney TV special Queen: The Days of Our Lives airs.
- 1993 - Disney releases the film Homeward Bound - The Incredible Journey on laserdisc for US$30.
- 1994 - The Center Court unit of the All-Star Sports Resort hotel opens at Walt Disney World.
- 1995 - Buena Vista Pictures releases the Hollywood Pictures live-action feature film Dangerous Minds to theaters in the USA. The film is based on the book My Posse Don't Do Homework.
- 1995 - Buena Vista releases the Mickey Mouse film Runaway Brain to theaters in the US.
- 1995 - Buena Vista releases the Walt Disney Pictures live-action feature film A Kid in King Arthur's Court to theaters in the USA.
- 1997 - Buena Vista Pictures releases the Walt Disney Pictures live-action feature film Air Bud to theaters in the USA.
- 2004 - Disney releases the live-action feature film The Princess Diaries 2: The Royal Engagement to theaters in the US.
- 2014 - The Disney XD TV channel airs the final Crash & Bernstein episode.
- 1956 - In Bremerton, Washington, the Seattle Seafair Class C/Production race is held. Finishing 1st overall is the #106 1956 Corvette driven by Richard Thompson.
- 1973 - MCA/Universal Pictures releases the film American Graffiti to theaters in the USA. A 1961 Corvette sits outside a 1950s diner. A used car lot has three Corvettes for sale.
- 2007 - At the Road America raceway in Elkhart Lake, Wisconsin, the Generac 500 at Road America race is held, round eight of the American Le Mans Series.
- Finishing 1st in LMGT1 class and 12th overall is the Corvette Racing #4 Corvette C6.R driven by Oliver Gavin and Olivier Beretta.
- Finishing 2nd in LMGT1 class and 13th overall is the Corvette Racing #3 Corvette C6.R driven by Johnny O'Connell and Jan Magnussen.
- 1942 - In England, the Pathfinder Force is officially created. It is designed to be used as lead bomber squadrons specialized in finding targets and marking their locations for following bombers.
- 1942 - Operation Bellows: 38 RAF Spitfire fighter planes from aircraft carrier HMS Furious in the Mediterranean depart for Malta.
- 1942 - (1200 hours) In the Mediterranean, German submarine U-73 sinks escort carrier HMS Eagle, which sinks in eight minutes with a crew of 200.
- 1942 - (2000 hours) Italian planes from Sardinia attack convoy Pedestal, but hit no ships.
- 1944 - (morning) Bernard Montgomery orders the First Canadian Army and Second British Army to capture Falaise, then secure Argentan, to capture German armies in the "Falaise Pocket".
- 1944 - The United States grants the French Committee of National Liberation status of temporary authority in civil affairs in France.
- 1945 - The United States' reply to Japan: the Emperor must be subject to the Supreme Commander, and the form of government in Japan would be established by the free will of the people.
- 1945 - The London Daily Telegraph reports that Britain prepared for an atomic bomb attack by Germany in August 1944.
- 1994 - Uganda issues three postage stamps marking the 50th anniversary of the D-Day invasion of Europe.
- 1995 - Square Soft releases the Chrono Trigger video game for the Super NES in the USA.
- 2001 - Nintendo releases the Mario Kart: Super Circuit video game for the Game Boy Advance in the US.
- 2001 - At Jackie Gaughan's Plaza Hotel in Las Vegas, Nevada, the Classic Gaming Expo 2001 is held, over two days.
- 2011 - (to September 10) The SUPER iam8bit art show is held in Los Angeles, California.
- 1813 - The armistice with Napoleon is denounced. Austria declares war.
- 1987 - The A & W Concentrate Company is granted a registered trademark of the A & W logo on soft drinks, potato chips, non-dairy creamer, chicken, cheese sandwiches, hamburger sandwiches, hot-dog sandwiches, instant coffee, salt, sugar, catsup. (first use October 21, 1963)
- 1992 - The A & W Concentrate Company is granted a registered trademark of an image with text "FROSTY MUG TASTE" as applied to soft drinks.
