- 1980 - IBM meets with Microsoft again, to talk in general terms about their planned personal computers. IBM asks if Microsoft will develop some programming language interpreters/compilers for it. Bill Gates agrees to supply BASIC and other software development tools. IBM also asks for CP/M, but Gates says Digital Research would have to supply that.
- 1980 - Bill Gates calls Gary Kildall, to arrange a meeting between IBM and Digital Research regarding CP/M.
- 1995 - US District Court Judge Thomas Jackson holds the first and only hearing on the consent decree between Microsoft and the US Department of Justice. Within 17 minutes, he signs his approval of it. The decree will govern Microsoft's licensing practices of Windows for the next 6.5 years, barring the company from linking unrelated software licenses. The ruling comes after five years of investigation of monopolistic licensing practices.
- 1997 - Guernsey issues a 63-pence postage stamp depicting a computer network.
- 1992 - Disney releases the Touchstone Pictures live-action feature film The Gun in Betty Lou's Handbag to theatres.
- 1995 - The PeopleMover attraction at Disneyland closes.
- 2004 - The Disney Channel premieres the TV series Brandy & Mr. Whiskers.
- 2006 - The Disneyland Monorail closes for remodelling of the submarine attraction.
- 1962 - At the GM Proving Grounds, Chevrolet presents the 1963 model Corvette to news reporters.
- 1976 - At the Mosport Park raceway, in Ontario, Canada, the Player's SCCA Trans-American Championship - Round 7 race is held.

- 1987 - At the Laguna Seca Raceway in Monterey, California, the 14th Annual Monterey Historic Automobile Races are held, over three days. About 50,000 people attend. Chevrolet holds its official 75th birthday party. Many historic Corvettes are on display and 34 participate in races, including the 1957 Corvette SS, 1960 Le Mans Corvette, CERV I, CERV II, 1959 Stingray, 1970 Manta Ray, 1977 Aerovette, two 1956 Corvette SR-2s, 1969 Owens-Corning Fiberglas Corvette, 1971 ZR-2 Corvette, 1963 Z06 Corvette, 1956 Sebring Corvette, 1962 Sebring coupe, and two 1963 Grand Sports (#003 and #004). Attending the event are Zora Arkus-Duntov, Ed Cole, Dave McLellan, Dick Thompson, Phil Hill, Jim Hall, Joe Pike, John Fitch, Augie Pabst, Roger Penske, Bill Mitchell, Hap Sharp, and Bob D'Olivio. Rich Mason is awarded the Phil Hill Monterey Cup for outstanding entry / race car of the meet, for his 1956 Corvette SR-2, originally owned by Jerry Earl. In the 1952-57 2000+ cc class race, 10 of 21 entries are Corvette.

- 1987 - At an auction of the Rick Cole Auction Company in Monterey, California, Les Bieri and Howard Kirsch buy unrestored 1953 Corvette number 003 from Ed Thiebaud, for US$37,000. The car does not have its original frame, so there are concerns about its originality.
- 1992 - At the Laguna Seca Raceway in Monterey, California, the Monterey Historic Automobile Races are held, over three days. Noel Park wins in his class in a 1958 Corvette.
- 2004 - At the Road America raceway in Elkhart Lake, Wisconsin, the Road America 500 race is held, round eight of the SCCA Pro Racing Speed GT Championship series.

- 1939 - Adolf Hitler reads a telegram from Josef Stalin, acknowledging agreement on a non-aggression pact. Hitler responds by banging his fist on the supper table, exclaiming "I have them! I have them!".
- 1939 - Berlin announces that Germany and Russia are concluding a treaty of non-aggression.
- 1941 - Adolf Hitler decides against concentrating attacks on Moscow, and orders central forces south to help capture Kiev.
- 1942 - The German flag is planted on the highest mountain of the Caucasus.
- 1944 - In the English Channel, German submarine U-480 hits Canadian corvette Alberni with an acoustic torpedo, sinking the ship. 59 die, 31 survive.
- 1944 - In France, US 20th Corps under Walton Walker captures Melun, Montereau, and Fontainebleau on the upper Seine River.
- 1944 - In France, US 12th Corps under Manton Eddy captures Sens and Troyes.
- 2001 - Capcom releases the Resident Evil Code: Veronica X video game for the PlayStation 2 in the US.

- 2007 - 2K Games releases the BioShock video game for the Xbox 360 in the US.
- 2009 - At the gamescon video game convention in Germany, Microsoft gives public demonstration of its new "Natal" technology hands-free Xbox 360 video game controller. The controller uses a microphone combined with visual and infrared cameras to control the onscreen action.
- 1632 - King Gustav Adolf crosses Rednitz river, and begin forming another camp.
- 1772 - The Riksdag is assembled in the state hall. King Gustav III explains the coup, and presents a new constitution. It is immediately accepted. The King appoints Council, and they are responsible to him alone. The King and Estates are responsible for making laws, each with a veto. Consent of parliament is requires for taxation, wars of aggression, and declaring war.
- 1810 - In Örebro, the Riksdag elects Jean Baptiste Bernadotte crown prince of Sweden.
- 1968 - The Federal Finance Minister reports that the U.S. Mint will produce 75 million 10c coins to help relieve the current shortage.
- 1980 - In Cincinnati, Ohio, US Secret Service agents seize a Canadian 1970 Manitoba centennial dollar apparently struck in gold, from an auction. The piece may have been illegally struck inside the Royal Canadian Mint.
- 1952 - Louis Eliasberg surrenders his 1933 $20 gold coin to the government.
- 1887 - Mighty (Dan) Casey strikes out in a game with the New York Giants.
- 1901 - Joe McGinnity is suspended from the National League for punching and spitting on an umpire.
