- 1980 - IBM representatives meet at Microsoft again. Bill Gates signs a consulting agreement for US$15,000 to develop the software specifications for IBM's personal computer. Jack Sams asks about alternatives to CP/M-86. Gates says he might find one.
- 1991 - The first email message is sent from space to Earth, sent by the crew of space shuttle STS-43 Atlantis, using a Macintosh Portable computer and AppleLink software.
- 1998 - Apple Computer releases the iMac in Japan. Price is 178,000 yen (US$1227).
- 2000 - Think Outside releases a portable keyboard for Hewlett-Packard's Jornada 540 Pocket PC.
- 2000 - Advanced Micro Devices begins volume shipments of its 1.1 GHz Athlon processor.
- 2000 - Intel temporarily ceases production of its 1.13 GHz Pentium III processor, and recalls those that have been shipped, due to the discovery of system hangs under certain conditions.
- 2003 - Canadian software maker Corel announces its US$98 million acquisition by Vector Capital of San Francisco, California, has been completed.
- 1928 - The Mickey Mouse film Gallopin' Gaucho is previewed in Los Angeles.
- 1929 - Disney completes the Mickey Mouse film Mickey's Follies. It includes the first Disney song co-written by Walt Disney, "Minnie's Yoo Hoo".
- 1957 - Disney releases the animated short film The Truth About Mother Goose to theaters.
- 1957 - Buena Vista releases Disney's first and only animated and life-action True-Life Fantasy feature film Perri to theaters. The film is based on the book by Felix Salten.
- 1957 - Disney releases the live-action featurette film Niok to theaters.
- 1966 - The 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea Exhibit display at Disneyland closes.
- 1989 - Michael Eisner and Jim Henson announce that Disney will acquire Henson Associates for US$150 million. Jim Henson is to remain as a consultant, and produce TV shows and films for Disney. Disney would acquire publishing and licensing rights to all Muppet characters except Sesame Street characters.
- 1991 - The Gambia issues twelve postage stamps depicting various Disney characters in Rudyard Kipling's "Just So Stories".
- 1991 - Judson Green is named new president of Walt Disney Attractions, succeeding Richard Nunis, who is promoted to chairman of Walt Disney Attractions.
- 1994 - The Art of Disney shop opens in the Disney Village Marketplace at Walt Disney World.
- 1995 - The last episode of Disney's The Shnookums and Meat Funny Cartoon Show airs.
- 1995 - The UPN TV network airs a preview of the TV show Nowhere Man.
- 1998 - Buena Vista releases the Touchstone Pictures live-action feature film The Horse Whisperer to theaters in Great Britain.
- 2006 - Time magazine shows a picture of dwarfs Dopey and Doc from Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs accompanying the results of a recent survey showing that 77% of Americans polled could name two of the dwarfs, far higher than the number who could name two of the US Supreme Court judges.
- 1992 - The 11th Corvettes at Carlisle is held, at the Carlisle Fairgrounds in Carlisle, Pennsylvania, over three days. Nearly 40,000 people attend.
- 1992 - Chevrolet announces that Corvette chief engineer Dave McLellan would take early retirement.
- 1998 - The Corvettes at Carlisle show is held in Pennsylvania over three days. 53,700 participants attend, with 6,000 Corvettes. 35 famous Corvette race car drivers are brought together, including Dick Thompson, Bob Spooner, Dave Morgan, Delmo Johnson, Paul Reinhart, Ed Lowther, and Bob Johnson. The 1959 Corvette "Purple People Eater" Mk III is shown.
- 2002 - The National Corvette Museum holds the 8th annual Corvette Celebration over five days.
- 2015 - (to August 30) Corvettes at Carlisle show. Over 5000 Corvettes and over 50,000 people attend.
- 2016 - At the Virginia International Raceway in Alton, Virginia, USA, the Michelin GT Challenge race is held, round 10 of the IMSA WeatherTech Sportscar Championship series.
- Finishing 1st in GT Le Mans class and 1st overall is the Corvette Racing #3 Corvette C7.R driven by Jan Magnussen and Antonio Garcia.
- Finishing 9th in GT Le Mans class and 18th overall is the Corvette Racing #4 Corvette C7.R driven by Tommy Milner and Oliver Gavin.
- 1939 - Adolf Hitler abrogates the German-Polish non-aggression treaty of 1934.
- 1941 - Eighteen British Blenheim bombers attack Rotterdam port, hitting at least two ships, but eight planes crash.
- 1942 - In the Caribbean Sea, Royal Canadian Navy corvette Oakville sinks German submarine U-94.
- 1942 - (evening) A British Pathfinder bombing force leads about 192 bombers in an attack on Nuremberg, Germany. The town is heavily damaged. 25 planes are shot down.
- 1944 - In Paris, France, Charles de Gaulle orders the Free French I and all other Resistance organizations to disband.
- 1944 - Four Waffen Sturz Staffel German divisions are sent into Slovakia, under command of SS General Gottlieb Berger.
- 1967 - The Solomon Islands issues two postage stamps marking the 25th anniversary of the American Guadalcanal campaign.
- 1975 - The USSR issues a postage stamp marking the 30th anniversary of North Korean liberation from Japanese occupation.
- 1992 - A US Court of Appeals reverses the decision in Sega Enterprises versus Accolade, which was ruled in Sega's favor in April. The new ruling in the game cartridge copyright infringement suit accepts Accolade's claim of "fair use" of Sega's copyrighted games, to learn how to create other games for the Sega game console, which were then created without knowledge of the disassembled object code. This ruling allows software developers to learn from hidden software interfaces, when no other means is available.
- 2000 - Nintendo releases the Mario Tennis video game for the Nintendo 64 in the US.
- 2006 - Nintendo releases the Star Fox Command video game for the Nintendo DS in the US.
- 2007 - Microsoft Game Studios releases the Blue Dragon video game for the Xbox 360 in the USA.
- 2009 - Microsoft cuts the price of the Xbox 360 Elite by $100 to US$299.99. The Xbox 360 Arcade version will remain at US$199.99, and the Pro model will be phased out. In Europe, the Elite will drop to 249.99 euros and 199.99 pounds in the UK.
- 2017 - Ubisoft releases the Mario and Rabbids: Kingdom Battle video game for the Switch in the USA.
- 1971 - At the CNA convention, the Wark uncirculated 1921 50c coin sells at auction for $8937, to a mail bid from New York City.
- 2012 - The Royal Canadian Mint releases the 2012 $1 circulating coin celebrating the centennial of the Grey Cup trophy of the Canadian Football League. Mintage limit is 5 million.
- 1933 - US President Franklin Roosevelt issues Executive Order 6260, allowing exemptions to the gold ownership ban for up to $100, and for gold coins of recognized collector value.
- 1878 - The Manifesto on the All-Round Development of Russian Lawn Tennis is adopted in Saint Petersburg, on completion of the All-Russian Tennis Fair.

- 1970 - Philadelphia Phillies' Larry Bowa steals home for second time in 1970.
- 1976 - New York Cosmos beat Seattle Sounders 2-1 for NASL cup.
- 1977 - New York Cosmos defeat Seattle Sounders, 2-1, at Civic Stadium in Portland Oregon, winning their second North American Soccer League championship.
- 1977 - New York Yankees' pitcher Ron Guidry faces just 28 men and beats Texas Rangers 1-0.
- 1978 - Donald Vesco rides 21-foot long Kawasaki motorcycle at 318.598 mph.
- 1981 - Sebastian Coe of United Kingdom sets 1-mile record of 3:47.33.

- 1991 - Five die in a New York City subway's third worst accident.
- 2003 - In the USA, Brian Douglas Wells wears a time bomb explosive fastened to his neck, and dies. The event stands out as the most bizarre event in the history of the Federal Bureau of Investigation.
- 2006 - A Greyhound Lines bus from New York City to Montreal, carrying 52 people, crashes at mile 115 on Interstate 87 near Elizabethtown killing five people including the driver, and several are seriously injured.
