Personal computer history:

  • 1985 - Franklin Computer introduces the ACE 2000 series, compatible with Apple Computer systems. The three models range in price from US$700 to $1000.
  • 2001 - At the Demomobile conference in La Jolla, California, Microsoft unveils the Pocket PC 2002 operating system.
  • 2001 - The US Department of Justice announces it will no longer pursue the breakup of Microsoft, or the claim that Microsoft illegally integrated its browser with Windows.
  • 2006 - Advanced Micro Devices releases the Athlon 64 X2 Dual-Core 5200+ AM2 processor. Price is US$827 in quantities of 1000.

Walt Disney Company history:

  • 1926 - Film Booking Offices releases the Alice Comedy film Alice Charms the Fish to theaters.
  • 1966 - The Yacht Club food facility at Disneyland closes.
  • 1976 - The America on Parade show ends at Walt Disney World. It completed more than 1200 performances to a total audience of 25 million people.
  • 1982 - The Alice in Wonderland ride at Disneyland closes for a major remodelling.
  • 1984 - The nine "outside" directors of Disney meet, to decide the fate of Ron Miller as CEO. Despite Miller's personal plea to each member, they decide unanimously that the full board should ask for Miller's resignation.
  • 1986 - CBS airs its last show of The Wuzzles.
  • 1988 - The CBS TV network airs the show Tickets Please as a pilot for a series.
  • 1993 - The animated TV series Bonkers begins distribution in syndication.
  • 2002 - Buena Vista International re-releases the film Beauty and the Beast to theaters in Brazil.
  • 2005 - Disney releases the Toy Story 10th Anniversary Edition on DVD in the USA.
  • 2005 - Disney releases the Toy Story 2: Special Edition on DVD in the USA.
  • 2008 - The TV show At the Movies premieres.
  • 2010 - The Maliboomer ride closes in Paradise Pier area of Disney's California Adventure.

Chevrolet Corvette history:

  • 1957 - Production of 1957 model Corvettes ends, with a total of 6339 built.
  • 1981 - At the Grand Prix Molson Trois-Rivieres in Trois-Rivieres, Quebec, Canada, the CRC Chemicals Trans-Am Championship - Round 6 race is held.
    • Finishing 1st is the Swiss Chalet #94 Corvette, driven by Eppie Wietzes. Wietzes also set new course records for fastest race lap, and fastest average speed.
    • Finishing 6th is the Full-Time Racing #99 Corvette, driven by Phil Currin.
    • Finishing 9th is the Corvette America #46 Corvette, driven by Jack Broomall.
    • Finishing 11th is the Herb Forrest Racing #82 Corvette, driven by Herb Forrest.
    • Finishing 14th is the USA Racing #85 Corvette, driven by Richard Valentine.
    • Finishing 15th is the #93 Corvette, driven by Mike Oleyar.
    • Finishing 16th is the #75 Corvette, driven by Bard Boand.
    • Finishing 17th is the Wava Racing #49 Corvette, driven by Brian Utt.
    • Finishing 18th is the #41 Corvette, driven by Bill Craine.
    • In 24th place, but not finishing the race, is the Huffaker/Executive #98 Corvette, driven by Tom Frank.
    • In 25th place, but not finishing the race, is the Lamberts #70 Corvette, driven by Murray Edwards.

  • 1987 - In San Antonio, Texas, the Camel Grand Prix race is held, part of the IMSA Camel GT series. The Corvette GTP finishes 3rd.

World War II history:

  • 1939 - (0700 hour) German IV Panzer Division launches first assault on Warsaw.
  • 1939 - Germans capture Cracow, Poland.
  • 1939 - General Jan Christiaan Smuts becomes new Prime Minister of the Union of South Africa. He pledges to cooperate with Britain, and declares war on Germany.
  • 1939 - Sweden is partially mobilized for war.
  • 1939 - (evening) The Iraqi government breaks off relations with Germany, begins deporting Germans, and promises to fulfill treaty obligations of support to Britain.
  • 1940 - Since August 23, British fighter plane losses (destroyed or damaged) total 466; German aircraft losses total 352.
  • 1941 - Adolf Hitler issues Directive No. 35. Army Group South is to make a surprise movement north-west, and Army Group Centre is to launch an attack against the Russian Army east of Smolensk at the end of the month.
  • 1942 - In the Caribbean Sea, north-west of Netherlands Antilles, German submarine U-164 torpedoes and sinks Canadian merchant ship John A. Holloway.
  • 1944 - The C and D Companies of the 4th Canadian Armoured Division cross the Gent Canal, and establish a small bridgehead in Moerbrugge, Belgium.
  • 1944 - British Bomber Command makes a daytime air raid on Emden, Germany, causing enormous fires and severe damage.
  • 1944 - British Vice-Chiefs of Staff decide "that rocket attacks on London need no longer be expected".
  • 1944 - British General Bernard Montgomery tells Canadian General Harry Crerar to capture Boulogne, France, quickly.
  • 1944 - Kurt Meyer, commander of the German 12th Panzer Division is captured near Namur, Belgium.
  • 1945 - (1500 hours) In Prague, the Czech People's Court condemns Dr. Josef Pfitzner to death. He was German deputy lord mayor of Prague.
  • 1945 - (1830 hours) In Prague, Czechoslovakia, a public hanging is held for Dr. Josef Pfitzner, former German deputy lord mayor.
  • 1991 - The Soviet Union's new ruling council recognizes independence of Lithuania, Latvia, and Estonia.

Video game history:

  • 1966 - Ralph Baer completes schematic for spot motion circuitry on a TV set, to play a simple two-player chasing game.
  • 2005 - Square Enix releases the Radiata Stories video game for the PlayStation 2 in the US.
  • 2005 - Ubisoft releases the Tom Clancy's Rainbow Six: Lockdown video game for the PlayStation 2, Xbox, and GameCube in the US.
  • 2005 - Namco releases the Rebelstar Tactical Command video game for the Game Boy Advance in the US.
  • 2006 - Sony announces a delay of introducing the PlayStation 3 in Europe, Australia, and other parts of the world until March.
  • 2006 - EA Sports releases the NASCAR 07 video game for the PlayStation 2, PlayStation Portable, and Xbox in the US.
  • 2006 - Sony Computer Entertainment of America announces it will have 400,000 PlayStation 3 systems available for the North American launch in November, with 100,000 units available in Japan.
  • 2011 - Sony Computer Entertainment releases the Resistance 3 video game for the PlayStation 3 in the US.
  • 2011 - Deep Silver releases the Dead Island video game for the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 in the US.
  • 2011 - Ubisoft releases the Driver: San Francisco video game for the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 in the US.
  • 2017 - Activision Blizzard releases the Destiny 2 video game for the PlayStation 4 and Xbox One in the USA.

Swedish history:

  • 1813 - Prince Karl Johan's force attacks at Dennewitz.

Canadian coin history:

  • 2000 - In Montreal, the Royal Canadian Mint releases the September 25c Millenium coin.

  • 1946 - All-American Football Conference plays first game (Cleveland Browns 44, Miami Seahawks 0).
  • 1954 - New York Yankees use a record ten pinch hitters.
  • 1963 - Major league baseball's 100,000th game.
  • 1973 - New York Times reports almost all Superfecta harness racing run at Yonkers, Roosevelt and Monticello from January to March of 1973 were fixed.
  • 1980 - Chantal Langlace sets women's record for fastest 100km run (7:27:22).
  • 1980 - College football's longest losing streak of 50 games ends for Macalaster University of Saint Paul, Minnesota beating Mount Senario 17-14.
  • 1981 - Bob Lemon becomes the New York Yankees' manager for the second time.
  • 1987 - Saskatchewan Rough Riders' Dave Ridgway kicks a Canadian Football League record 60-yard field goal.
  • 1989 - Amateur Atheletic Federation strips Ben Johnson of all track records.
  • 1989 - England holds Sweden to a 0-0 draw in Sweden, qualifying for the 1990 FIFA World Cup. The game became famous after Terry Butcher sustained a deep cut to his forehead early in the game. He received stitches but played on the entire game. By the end of the game, the front of Butcher's white shirt and shorts where almost entirely covered in blood.
  • 1995 - Cal Ripken Junior of the Baltimore Orioles breaks the all time consecutive games played record in Major League Baseball with his 2131st game.
  • 2001 - Barry Bonds becomes the fifth major leaguer to hit 60 home runs in a season, reaching the milestone in the shortest time, just 141 games.
  • 2009 - In Oschersleben, Germany, round 9 of the FIA World Touring Car Championship is held. Race 1 is won by Andy Priaulx; race 2 is won by Augusto Farfus.
  • 2009 - In Australia, round 10 of the FIA World Rally Championship is won by Mikko Hirvonen.
  • 2009 - In Misano, San Marino, round 13 of the FIM MotoGP Championship is won by Valentino Rossi.
  • 2010 - New York Yankees' Alex Rodriguez reaches 100 RBIs for a record 14th season, passing Babe Ruth, Lou Gehrig, and Jimmie Fox, all tied at 13 seasons.
  • 2022 - At Dodger Stadium in Los Angeles, California, USA, Major League Baseball regular season game: Los Angeles Dodgers beats San Francisco Giants by score 6-3.
  • 2022 - At T-Mobile Park in Seattle, Washington, USA, Major League Baseball regular season game: Seattle Mariners beats Chicago White Sox by score 3-0.
  • 2022 - At RingCentral Coliseum, Oakland, California, USA, Major League Baseball regular season game: Atlanta Braves beats Oakland Athletics by score 10-9.
  • 2022 - At Petco Park in San Diego, California, USA, Major League Baseball regular season game: San Diego Padres beats Arizona Diamondbacks by score 6-5.

  • 2017 - (to September 10) The Caribbean and United States are struck by Hurricane Irma, a Category 5 hurricane that is the strongest hurricane ever recorded in the Atlantic basin outside the Caribbean and Gulf of Mexico. The storm causes at least 146 deaths and $64.2 billion in damage.
  • 2020 - Typhoon Haishen makes landfall on Japan and then South Korea as a strong category 2-equivalent typhoon.

USA history:

  • 1839 - Great fire in New York.
  • 1862 - CSA General Thomas Jackson occupies Fredrick, Maryland.
  • 1863 - After 59-day siege, Confederates evacuate Fort Wagner, South Carolina.

  • 1876 - Southern Pacific rail line from Los Angeles to San Francisco is completed.
  • 1901 - President William McKinley is shot by Leon Czologosz in Buffalo, New York (dies 8 days later).
  • 1943 - "Congressional Limited" train derails near Frankfort, Pennsylvania, USA, kills 79.
  • 1961 - In Bells, Texas, USA a meteorite strikes the roof of a house.
  • 1966 - Race riot in Atlanta, Georgia, USA.
