Since 1995, I have been collecting information on a variety of topics, creating several timelines of history. Personal computer history:

  • 1982 - Texas Instruments and IBM enter a joint agreement for Texas Instruments to produce chips for cards for networking office machines with computers.
  • 1986 - Apple Computer introduces the Apple IIGS computer. It features a 16-bit Western Design Center W65C816 microprocessor operating at 1 MHz or 2.8 MHz, 7 expansion slots, built-in ports, QuickDraw II in ROM, Apple Desktop Plus, and Apple 3.5 Drive. Compatibility with Apple II software is about 90 percent. Base price is US$1000, with a full system priced at US$1900. "GS" stands for Graphics and Sound.
  • 1995 - United Artists releases the film Hackers to theaters in the US. Various personal computers are used throughout the film to control television programming, a supercomputer, traffic lights, building lights, and more. Apple Computer products appear (3.5-inch disk drive, portable computer, windowing software).
  • 1997 - Apple Computer announces several Power Macintosh 6500 systems with 275 to 300 MHz PowerPC 603e processors, and the Mac OS 8 operating system.
  • 1998 - Microsoft releases Office 97 Service Pack 2.

Walt Disney Company history:

  • 1925 - M.J. Winkler Productions releases the Alice Comedy film Alice the Jail Bird to theaters.
  • 1928 - Walt Disney hires an orchestra in New York to record the soundtrack for Steamboat Willie. The session cost over $1000, but is a complete failure.
  • 1944 - The Goofy film How to Play Football is released to theaters.
  • 1958 - The Viewliner Train of Tomorrow attraction is permanently closed, to make way for new attractions. In its 15-month operational life, it carried 1,430,683 passengers.
  • 1980 - Togo issues eleven postage stamps depicting various Disney characters, for the 50th anniversary of Pluto.
  • 1981 - Disney releases the 16-mm film Popeye.
  • 1984 - The Circle-Vision film American Journeys opens in Tomorrowland in the Magic Kingdom at Walt Disney World.
  • 1986 - The Character Shop in Tomorrowland at Disneyland closes.
  • 1990 - The NBC TV network airs a second preview of the series Hull High.
  • 1991 - The NBC TV network begins airing the series Pacific Station.
  • 1994 - Michael Eisner meets with Peter Rummell to discuss the Disney's America project. Projections of revenues and expenses show that the park would operate at a loss. Disney decides to abandon the idea to build the historical theme park in Virginia, for financial reasons and due to negative press.
  • 1995 - The Café des Visionnaires restaurant in Discoveryland at Disneyland Paris closes.
  • 1995 - Buena Vista Pictures makes a limited release of the feature film Unstrung Heroes to theaters in the USA.
  • 1995 - The ABC TV network previews the TV series Maybe This Time.
  • 1995 - The Buena Vista Television - Syndication TV series The Stephanie Miller Show debuts.
  • 1996 - The WB Network begins airing a new season of Brotherly Love.
  • 1996 - The Universe of Energy pavilion in EPCOT Center at Walt Disney World is updated, incorporating Ellen's Energy Adventure.
  • 1997 - The Candy Cauldron shop opens at Downtown Disney West Side at Walt Disney World.
  • 1998 - Sierra Leone issues fourteen postage stamps depicting characters from The Lion King II: Simba's Pride.
  • 1999 - For the first time in its 28-year history, most of Walt Disney World is closed for the day, due to the threat of Hurricane Floyd. Disney's Animal Kingdom re-opens at 12:00 PM for resort guests.
  • 2000 - Disney releases the Hollywood Pictures live-action feature film Duets to theaters in the USA.
  • 2000 - The TV series The Ainsley Harriott Show ends.
  • 2005 - Disney releases the Platinum Edition DVD of Cinderella.
  • 2006 - Disney releases the film The Guardian to theaters in the USA.
  • 2010 - La Hacienda de San Angel dining area opens adjacent to Cantina de San Angel in the Mexico pavilion in Epcot center at Walt Disney World.

Chevrolet Corvette history:

  • 2001 - In Effingham, Illinois, Mid America Designs hosts the Funfest Corvette gathering, over two days. 6500 Corvettes and almost 30,000 people attend.
  • 2002 - At Le Circuit Mont-Tremblant in Mont Tremblant, Quebec, Canada, Round 9 of the Grand American Rolex Sports Car Series is held.
    • Finishing 2nd in AGT class and 9th overall is the ACP Motorsports #19 Corvette, driven by Kerry Hitt, Doug Mills, and Owen Trinkler.
    • Finishing 3rd in AGT class and 10th overall is the Morgan Dollar Motorsports #46 Corvette, driven by Andrew Richards, Stephen Richards, and Rob Morgan.

  • 2006 - In Effingham, Illinois, Mid-America Motorworks hosts the 13th annual FunFest Corvette show, over three days. A record 45,000 people and 14,063 Corvettes attend.
  • 2007 - At the Miller Motorsport Park in Tooele, Utah, the Sunchaser 1000 race is held, round thirteen (final) of the Grand-Am Rolex Sports Car Series.
    • Finishing 9th in GT class and 26th overall is the Team Sahlen #43 Corvette driven by Joe Nonnamaker, Will Nonnamaker, and Wayne Nonnamaker.
    • Finishing 13th in GT class and 30th overall is the Beachman Racing #56 Corvette driven by Bruce Beachman, Michael Fitzgerald, and ? McClure.
    • Finishing 15th in GT class and 32nd overall is the Stevenson Automotive #57 Corvette driven by Dominic Cicero, Marc Bunting, and James Gue.
    • Finishing 22nd in GT class and 42nd overall is the Team Sahlen #42 Corvette driven by Joe Sahlen and Will Nonnamaker.

  • 2019 - At the WeatherTech Raceway Laguna Seca in Monterey, California, USA, the Monterey SportsCar Championship race is held, round 11 of the IMSA WeatherTech Sportscar Championship series.
    • Finishing 3rd in GT Le Mans class and 14th overall is the Corvette Racing #3 Corvette C7.R driven by Jan Magnussen and Antonio Garcia.
    • Finishing 4th in GT Le Mans class and 15th overall is the Corvette Racing #4 Corvette C7.R driven by Tommy Milner and Oliver Gavin.

World War II history:

  • 1938 - British Prime Minister Neville Chamberlain meets with Adolf Hitler in the Berghof in Germany. Chamberlain agrees to Hitler's demand to annex the Sudetenland.
  • 1939 - Japan calls for a ceasefire in its local conflict with the Soviet Union at Nomonhan near the shared border with Mongolia. During the fighting since mid-May, Japan suffered 50,000 casualties. Both sides conclude the Soviet tanks were better in quality and quantity.
  • 1939 - Soviet Russia and Japan agree to an armistice in the war on the Manchukuo - Outer Mongolia border.
  • 1939 - In Canberra, Australia, Prime Minister R.G. Menzies announces the creation of a six-man War Cabinet, and an increase in taxes on companies and gold production.
  • 1939 - The government of Paraguay formally declares neutrality.
  • 1939 - The Argentine Minister of Marine announces the entire Argentine naval fleet is ordered to patrol the coast to protect the country's neutrality.
  • 1940 - In the mid-Atlantic, south-east of Iceland, a submarine sinks Canadian merchant ship Kenordoc en route to Bristol, England.
  • 1940 - During the day, Germany sends 1700 planes against Britain. Eighty are shot down, with British losses of 35 fighters.
  • 1941 - German armored columns meet up at Lokhutsa, 125 miles east of Kiev, surrounding about 500,000 Soviet forces inside.
  • 1941 - Japan begins preparations for war to the south, to secure oil supplies.
  • 1941 - British Prime Minister Winston Churchill receives a reply from Soviet leader Josef Stalin, proposing 25-30 British divisions land in Archangel or be sent through Persia to southern USSR.
  • 1943 - Allies launch 1900 air sorties against German positions and communications near Salerno, Italy.
  • 1943 - The British 7th Armored Division begins landing on the British bridgehead at Salerno, Italy.
  • 1943 - British battleships Warspite and Valiant and a destroyer flotilla begin bombarding enemy targets at Salerno, Italy.
  • 1943 - United States 101st Airborne Division troops arrive in England.
  • 1943 - A German guided aerial bomb hits SS James Marshall off Salerno, Italy.
  • 1943 - (evening) British Bomber Command drops its first 12,000-pound bomb, against the Dortmund-Ems Canal.
  • 1944 - Canadian forces begin attacks on fortifications west of Calais.
  • 1944 - Canadian 4th Division troops occupy Maldegem, Belgium.
  • 1944 - 28 British Lancaster bombers take off from Yagodnik, Russia, to attack the German battleship Tirpitz. They score one hit with a 12,000 pound bomb, causing serious damage.
  • 1947 - Paris peace treaty is ratified between Allies and Italy.
  • 1948 - Greece issues a postage stamp marking the 7th anniversary of the Battle of Crete.
  • 1990 - Belize issues six stamps marking the 50th anniversary of the Battle of Britain.
  • 1990 - Marshall Islands issues four postage stamps marking the 50th anniversary of the end of the Battle of Britain.
  • 1990 - St. Kitts issues two postage stamps marking the 50th anniversary of the Battle of Britain.
  • 1994 - Marshall Islands issues a postage stamp marking the 50th anniversary of the American Marines landing on Peliliu.
  • 1994 - Philippines issues four postage stamps marking the 50th anniversary of American landings at Leyte Gulf.
  • 2000 - Jersey issues six postage stamps marking the 60th anniversary of the Battle of Britain.
  • 2005 - In London, England, British Prince Charles unveils a new granite monument memorial to participants of the Battle of Britain. The monument lists names of 2936 British and Allied pilots and crew.

Video game history:

  • 1995 - United Artists releases the film Hackers to theaters in the US.
    • A prototype of the PlayStation game Wipeout is played in a nightclub.
    • The PlayStation logo appears in the game.
    • A Nintendo Powerglove appears.
    • The Atari Virtuality SU2000 virtual-reality arcade system is shown.
    • A character says "A wake-up call for the Nintendo generation".

  • 2005 - In Chiba, Japan, the Tokyo Game Show is held, over four days. Nintendo shows a prototype wireless controller for its next console video game system. It is shaped like a television remote controller, interacting with sensors attached to the television to detect movement. An expansion slot allows for add-on devices.
  • 2009 - EA Games releases the Need for Speed: Shift video game for the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 in the USA.
  • 2009 - Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment releases the Scribblenauts video game for the Nintendo DS in the USA.
  • 2009 - EA Sports releases the NHL 10 video game for the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 in the USA.
  • 2010 - Sony releases the PlayStation Move motion sensing system for the PlayStation 3 in the US and Europe.
  • 2017 - Bethesda releases the Dishonored: Death of the Outsider video game for the PlayStation 4 and Xbox One in the USA.
  • 2017 - Sega releases the Sonic Mania video game for the PlayStation 4 and Xbox One in the USA.
  • 2017 - Nintendo releases the Metroid: Samus Returns video game ror the Nintendo 3DS in the USA.

Swedish history:

  • 1541 - At Brömsebro, the Kings of Sweden and Denmark conclude a treaty of friendship and alliance between their countries.
  • 1650 - Queen Kristina proposes to the Riksdag that Karl Gustav be accepted as hereditary prince, and his male children succeed him.
  • 1973 - King Gustav VI Adolf dies.
  • 1974 - Swedish Prime Minister Olof Palme describes the military government of Chile as "despicable crooks".
  • 1991 - General elections are held for Parliament. Carl Bildt is elected new Prime Minister, the country's first Conservative leader in 63 years. The government is a coalition with Moderates, Liberals, Centre Party, and Christian Democrats. The Social Democrat party and allies received 154 seats, the Moderate coalition 170, and the New Democrats 25.
  • 2000 - (to October 1) The 27th Olympic Games are held in Sydney, Australia. Sweden wins 4 gold, 5 silver, and 3 bronze medals.

Canadian coin history:

  • 1953 - A Proclamation sets the composition of the 5c coin of steel and chromium.
  • 1982 - The Charlton Press releases the 35th edition (Winter 1983) of The Charlton Standard Catalogue of Canadian Coins. Price is $3.50.

USA coin history:

  • 2008 - The Superior Pre-Long Beach Elite Coin Auction is held in Beverly Hills, California. Some highlights:
    • 1876-CC Seated Liberty 20-cent, MS-62 PCGS: US$260,000.

  • 2008 - The US Mint announces the motto "IN GOD WE TRUST" on Presidential dollars will be move from the edge to the obverse beginning with 2009 coins.

Sports history:

  • 1912 - Boston Red Sox' pitcher Joe Wood ties record of 16 straight wins.
  • 1928 - Saint Louis Cardinals set National League record of 18 men left on base beating Philadelphia Phillies 8-6.
  • 1938 - Only time brothers hit back-to-back home runs (Lloyd and Paul Waner, Pittsburgh Pirates).
  • 1940 - Third American Football League plays first game (Milwaukee 14, Columbus 2).
  • 1940 - Chicago Tribune sponsors Ted Lyons Day (Chicago White Sox pitcher).
  • 1946 - Brooklyn Dodgers beat Chicago Cubs 2-0 in five innings, games called because of gnats.
  • 1947 - New York Yankees clinch pennant #15.
  • 1950 - Longest game in Philadelphia's Shribe Park, Philadelphia Phillies beat Cincinnati Reds 8-7 in 19 innings.
  • 1950 - New York Yankees' player Johnny Mize hits three homers (sixth time he has done that).
  • 1953 - Boxing's NBA adopts 10-point-must-scoring-system (10 points to round winner).
  • 1957 - San Francisco Seals (Pacific Coast League) play their last game.
  • 1962 - Australia's first entry in America's Cup yacht race (US wins).
  • 1962 - Kansas City Athletics' Bill Fischer sets record of 69 1/3 innings without a walk.
  • 1969 - Saint Louis Cardinals' pitcher Steve Carlton strikes out nineteen batters of the New York Mets, establishing a new a new major league mark for strikeouts in a single game.
  • 1978 - Muhammad Ali beats WBA heavyweight champion Leon Spinks.
  • 1978 - New York Yankees beat Boston Red Sox 4-0, Guidry wins number 22, Yankees lead 2.5 games.
  • 1979 - Boston Red Sox player Bob Watson is first to hit for the cycle in American League and National League (Houston Astros).
  • 1985 - European team beats US team for golf's Ryders Cup (first since 1957).
  • 1988 - Lillehammer, Norway upsets Anchorage, Alaska to host 1994 Winter Olympics.
  • 1991 - South Dakota State freshman Marshall Faulk sets NCAA rushing record of 386 yards.
  • 2000 - (to October 1) The Games of the XXVII Olympiad are held in Sydney, Australia.
  • 2003 - Barry Bonds walks for the 2,063rd time in his career, passing Babe Ruth on the all-time walks list to become number two on the list.
  • 2019 - At the WeatherTech Raceway Laguna Seca in Monterey, California, USA, the Monterey SportsCar Championship race is held, round 11 of the IMSA WeatherTech Sportscar Championship series.

  • 1947 - First four-engine jet-propelled fighter-plane tested, Columbus, Ohio.
  • 1948 - F-86 Sabre sets world aircraft speed record of 1080 kph.
  • 1958 - Commuter train crashes through drawbridge, killing 48 (Newark, New Jersey).
  • 1959 - Soviet Premier Nikita Khrushchev arrives in US to begin a 13-day visit.

  • 2021 - A trilateral security pact between Australia, the United Kingdom, and the United States is formed, to counter the influence of China. This includes enabling Australia to build its first nuclear-powered submarine fleet.
