- 1984 - IBM makes a major software announcement of 31 programs for its personal computers. There are two series of programs, the IBM Business Management Series, for US$695 each, and the IBM Personal Decision Series, for US$150-250 each.
- 1996 - IBM launches OS/2 Warp 4, in San Francisco, California. New features include Java technology, voice recognition software, and Open32 Win32 APIs. Price is US$249; upgrade is US$149. It is the first operating system to include built-in speech navigation and recognition.
- 1996 - Microsoft releases DirectX 3.0 to software developers. Included is support for multimedia, multiplayer online games, 3D positional sound, and more input device support.
- 1998 - National Semiconductor announces it will terminate its processor manufacturing agreement with IBM by the end of the year. As a result, IBM will lose access to Cyrix 6X86 designs, compatible with Intel x86 processors.
- 2000 - Intel releases 800 and 850 MHz mobile Pentium III processors. Prices are US$508 and US$722 each in 1000-unit quantities.
- 2000 - Intel releases the 700 MHz mobile Celeron processor. Price is US$181 each in 1000-unit quantities.
- 2001 - Romania issues a postage stamp that depicts the first microprocessor, in 1971.
- 1924 - Bard's Hollywood Theater previews the ninth Alice Comedy film, Alice and the Three Bears.
- 1931 - The Mickey Mouse film Fishin' Around is released to theaters.
- 1942 - The Donald Duck film The Vanishing Private is released to theaters.
- 1953 - Marvin Davis completes his second-generation "hub" layout of the proposed Disneyland.

- 1966 - The NBC TV network airs the Walt Disney's Wonderful World of Color show, entitled The Legend of El Blanco.
- 1975 - The NBC TV network airs The Wonderful World of Disney show, entitled The Outlaw Cats of Colossal Cave.
- 1980 - Grenada issues ten postage stamps featuring scenes from Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs.
- 1980 - Turks and Caicos Islands issues ten postage stamps with scenes from Disney's film Pinocchio.
- 1984 - Nearly 1800 disgruntled Disneyland workers stage a strike.
- 1991 - The ABC TV network premieres the Disney TV series Good and Evil.
- 1992 - Buena Vista generally releases the film Sarafina! to theaters in the US.
- 1994 - The Fox Broadcasting Company airs The Simpsons TV show in the US. A character says "Romance is dead. It was acquired in a hostile takeover by Hallmark and Disney...".
- 1996 - Walt Disney Home Video releases Oliver and Company to the home video market.
- 2001 - Disney Interactive releases the Ultimate Ride software for Windows in the US. The player can build and ride virtual roller coasters.
- 2005 - Disney holds the premiere of the live-action feature film The Greatest Game Ever Played at the El Capitan theater in Hollywood.
- 2005 - Disney releases the film Lilo & Stitch 2: Stitch Has a Glitch on videocassette and DVD in Venezuela.
- 2005 - The Fox Broadcasting Company airs The Simpsons TV show in the US. A plan to re-split up reconciled parents is referred to as a "reverse Parent Trap", a reference to the Disney film.
- 2006 - Time magazine runs an article on films coming to computer via legal downloads, and shows a picture from Disney's Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man's Chest.
- 2007 - The CBS TV network premieres the Cane TV series.
- 1978 - Chevrolet introduces the 1979 model Corvette.
- 1980 - Chevrolet introduces the 1981 model Corvette.
- 1983 - At the Riverside International Raceway in Riverside, California, the SCCA Budweiser Trans-Am Championship - Round 11 race is held.
- Finishing 9th is the Pickett Racing #9 Corvette, driven by Mark Wolocatiuk.
- Finishing 12th is the Pickett Racing #6 Corvette, driven by Darin Brassfield.
- Finishing 15th is the Park Performance #79 Corvette, driven by Larry Park.
- Finishing 23rd is the Commodity Refining Exchange #99 Corvette, driven by Doug Hooper.
- In 28th place, but not finishing the race, is the Automotive Enterprises #27 Corvette, driven by Rich Sloma.

- 1988 - At the Mosport Park raceway in Bowmanville, Ontario, Canada, the 9th race of the SCCA Corvette Challenge series is held. Finishing 1st is Stuart Hayner.
- 1988 - At the Mosport Park raceway in Bowmanville, Ontario, Canada, round 12 of the SCCA Escort Trans-Am Championship is held. Finishing 15th is the Deman Racing #22 Corvette, driven by Peter Deman.
- 1992 - Chevrolet announces it would limit production of the ZR-1 to 380 cars for the 1993 model year.
- 2004 - At the Road Atlanta raceway in Braselton, Georgia, the Petit Le Mans race is held, round eight of the American Le Mans Series.
- Finishing 1st in GTS class and 4th overall is the Corvette Racing #4 Corvette C5-R, driven by Oliver Gavin, Olivier Beretta, and Jan Magnussen.
- Finishing 2nd in GTS class and 5th overall is the Corvette Racing #3 Corvette C5-R, driven by Ron Fellows, Johnny O'Connell, and Max Papis. This win gives Chevrolet its fourth straight manufacturer's title.
Top GTS drivers for the series are Ron Fellows and Johnny O'Connell. Ron Fellows becomes the first driver in American Le Mans Series history to win three championships in any class.
- 2021 - At the Grand Prix of Long Beach raceway in Long Beach, California, USA, the Grand Prix of Long Beach race is held, round 10 of the IMSA WeatherTech Sportscar Championship series.
- Finishing 1st in GT Le Mans class and 6th overall is the Corvette Racing #4 Corvette C8.R driven by Tommy Milner and Nick Tandy.
- Finishing 2nd in GT Le Mans class and 7th overall is the Corvette Racing #3 Corvette C8.R driven by Jordan Taylor and Antonio Garcia.
- 1939 - (0830 hours) Off Stavanger, Norway, a German submarine sinks Swedish freighter Silesia, carrying cargo to England.
- 1939 - The German High Command orders commencement of systematic attack on Warsaw.
- 1939 - Adolf Hitler issues Directive No. 4 "for the Conduct of the War", concerning the final steps in Poland: secure the Demarcation Line with Russia, halt the flow of refugees west of the Line. No attacks on or over land are to be made in the West. Attacks on English and French merchant shipping are to be made.
- 1939 - Guns of the French Maginot Line and German Westwall along the 80-mile front from Lauterbourg to Basle exchange fire for 24 hours.

- 1944 - (1910 hours) The German V-2 rocket attack on England is resumed, as a rocket lands at Hoxne in Suffolk, twenty miles from the target Norwich in Norfolk.

- 1598 - The forces of Duke Karl defeat the royal army of King Sigismund near Linköping.
- 1629 - Sweden and Poland sign a six-year truce at Altmark, near Danzig. Sweden retains control of Livonia and the mouth of the River Vistula. Poland regains other Swedish gains since the 1625 invasion. Sweden will receive all shipping tolls at ports of Poland and Prussia for the six years.

- 1962 - Sonny Liston knocks out Floyd Patterson in first round for heavyweight title.
- 1962 - Weatherly (US) beats Gretel (Australia) in 19th running of America's Cup.
- 1965 - At age 34, Willie Mays becomes the oldest Major League Baseball player to hit 50 home runs in a season. The Giants' center fielder was also the youngest to accomplish the feat hitting 51 homers in 1955.
- 1966 - Smallest Yankee stadium crowd, 413 see Chicago White Sox win 4-1.

- 1976 - Montreal Expo's last game at Montreal's Jarry Park.

- 1998 - Sammy Sosa hits homerun number 66 to take the lead in the Major League Baseball homerun race. Less than an hour later Mark McGwire also hits his 66th.
- 2004 - Port Adelaide Power win their first premiership against Brisbane Lions in AFL Grand Final.

- 2004 - Hurricane Jeanne makes landfall near Port Saint Lucie, Florida, near location Hurricane Frances hit two weeks earlier. Jeanne kills over 3,030, mostly in Haiti.
- 2006 - The Louisiana Superdome in New Orleans re-opens 13 months after Hurricane Katrina with extensive repairs, including the largest re-roofing project in the United States.
- 2007 - Microsoft releases the Halo 3 video game for the Xbox 360 in the USA.
- 2008 - U.S. regulators seize bank Washington Mutual, the biggest bank failure in the nation's history, and sell its assets to JPMorgan Chase & Company for US$1.9 billion. Washington Mutual was the largest savings and loan bank, with $307 billion of assets and $188 billion of deposits.
