Personal computer history:

  • 1999 - The Fox Broadcasting Company airs The Simpsons TV show in the US. A man is kicked out of a movie theater for having a computer with him: desktop unit, CRT monitor, keyboard, and mouse. In a later theater showing, the man leaves the theater typing a review on a laptop computer.
  • 2004 - Yemen issues three postage stamps depicting computer chips and a computer.
  • 2006 - Microsoft releases Service Pack 1 for Visual Studio 2005 for Windows in the USA.
  • 2010 - The Fox Broadcasting Company airs The Simpsons TV show in the US. A laptop computer appears to access web sites.

Walt Disney Company history:

  • 1927 - The Colony Theater in New York City premieres the seventh Oswald the Lucky Rabbit film, The Ocean Hop.
  • 1930 - The Silly Symphony film Monkey Melodies is released to theaters.
  • 1936 - The Silly Symphony film Three Blind Mouseketeers is released to theaters.
  • 1937 - Camera work begins on the film Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs.
  • 1953 - Walt Disney discusses his plans for Disneyland with Herb Ryman, convincing him to help draw a visual image of the park. Over 42 hours, the two create a 43x70 inch detailed aerial view.
  • 1956 - The ABC TV network airs the Disneyland TV show, entitled Searching for Nature's Mysteries.
  • 1962 - Buena Vista releases Disney's live-action film Almost Angels to theaters. It is released in the United Kingdom as Born to Sing.
  • 1965 - The NBC TV network airs the Walt Disney's Wonderful World of Color show, entitled The Further Adventures of Gallegher: A Case of Murder.
  • 1971 - The NBC TV network airs The Wonderful World of Disney show, featuring Hacksaw, part one.
  • 1975 - The National Broadcasting Company airs The Rockford Files TV show in the USA. A character says to others "Why don't you guys go back to Disneyland and leave me alone, huh?"
  • 1981 - Disney's weekly TV show moves to CBS, making it the first prime-time series to have appeared on all three major networks. The show is renamed Walt Disney, airing on Saturdays from 8:00 to 9:00.
  • 1986 - The syndicated TV show Today's Business premieres. The early-morning show airs on 133 stations.
  • 1986 - The ABC TV network debuts the Disney-produced Sidekicks show.
  • 1991 - The Dinosaurs Live parade begins at the Disney-MGM Studios Theme Park at Walt Disney World.
  • 1991 - The Mama Melrose's Ristorante Italiano restaurant opens at the Disney-MGM Studios Theme Park at Walt Disney World. Former name of the restaurant was Studio Pizzeria.
  • 1991 - Hyperion Books publishes its first book: Amazing Grace.
  • 1994 - The Tomorrowland Terrace restaurant in Disneyland closes.
  • 1995 - Michael Eisner recommends the Disney board approve the appointment of Michael Ovitz as president. The board unanimously approves.
  • 1997 - The ABC TV network begins airing the Teen Angel show.
  • 1997 - The ABC TV network debuts the series You Wish.
  • 1999 - The Fox Broadcasting Company airs The Simpsons TV show in the US.
    • At a movie theater special screening, an audience member asks: "Will there be any Flubber in this movie?", a reference to Disney's 1997 film Flubber.
    • Herbie the Love Bug appears in an automobile museum.

  • 2000 - Disney premieres the Walt Disney Pictures film Remember the Titans in Washington, D.C.
  • 2001 - The ABC TV network premieres the According to Jim TV show.
  • 2003 - Disney releases the live-action feature film Under the Tuscan Sun to theaters in the US.
  • 2007 - The ABC TV network premieres the TV series Dirty Sexy Money.
  • 2010 - The Fox Broadcasting Company airs The Simpsons TV show in the US. The episode title, "Elementary School Musical", is a play on Disney's film High School Musical.
  • 2011 - The ABC TV network premieres The Chew series.

Chevrolet Corvette history:

  • 1959 - At Watkins Glen, the SCCA holds a National car race.
      Finishing 1st in B-Production class and 1st overall is the #99 Corvette driven by H. Turiskey. Finishing 2nd in B-Production class and 2nd overall is the #119 Corvette driven by Harold Keck. Finishing 3rd in B-Production class and 3rd overall is the #18 Corvette driven by Ben Moore. Finishing 4th in B-Production class and 4th overall is the #7 Corvette driven by L. D. Morrisett. Finishing 5th in B-Production class and 5th overall is the #84 Corvette driven by Ed Myers. Finishing 6th in B-Production class and 7th overall is the #39 Corvette driven by Richard W. Jalbert. Finishing 7th in B-Production class and 8th overall is the #159 Corvette driven by Robert Mouat. Finishing 8th in B-Production class and 15th overall is the #100 Corvette driven by Trevor McKenna. Finishing 9th in B-Production class and 17th overall is the #10 Corvette driven by Laura Dasey. Finishing 10th in B-Production class and 18th overall is the #22 Corvette driven by Robert Ruth. Finishing 11th in B-Production class and 19th overall is the #51 Corvette driven by Tom Kerr. Finishing 12th in B-Production class and 22nd overall is the #201 Corvette driven by Don Yenko.

  • 1964 - Chevrolet unveils the 1965 Corvette.
  • 1969 - The Tour de France in Nice, France, ends. Finishing 1st in Group 3 Grand Touring class and 2nd overall is the Greder Racing Team #143 1968 Corvette L-88 T-Top driven by Henri Greder/André Vigneron. They scored wins at Nürburgring, Rouen, Le Mans, Charade, Albi, Cap Frehel, and Tourmalet. They finish 2nd overall behind a factory-backed Porsche 911R.
  • 1991 - Callaway Engineering completes its 500th Twin-Turbo Corvette conversion.

World War II history:

  • 1938 - The British Foreign Office issues a statement saying if Germany attacks Czechoslovakia, France would assist, and Great Britain and Russia would stand by France.
  • 1938 - Adolf Hitler says that unless Czechoslovakia acquiesces by 2 PM September 28, troops will march into the Sudetenland on October 1.
  • 1938 - Adolf Hitler makes speech to the Nazi party in Berlin, saying that once the Czech/German problem is solved, there would be no more territorial problems for Germany. And once Czechs settle with minorities peacefully, he will have no more interest in the Czech state. Quote by Adolf Hitler, on the desire to annex part of Czechoslovakia: "It is the last territorial claim which I have to make in Europe, but it is the claim from which I will not recede.".
  • 1939 - The French Government issues a decree dissolving the Communist party in France.
  • 1940 - US President Franklin Roosevelt imposes an embargo on the export of aviation fuel, scrap iron, and steel to Japan, citing American defence needs.
  • 1941 - Adolf Hitler orders an attack commence on Moscow.
  • 1943 - German forces in Italy withdraw from the hill barrier between Salerno and Naples.
  • 1944 - (evening) 227 British Lancaster bombers attack Kaiserlautern, Germany, destroying one third of the town.
  • 1994 - Nicaragua issues six postage stamps marking the 50th anniversary of the D-Day landings in Normandy.

Video game history:

  • 2001 - Sony CEA releases the Ico video game for the PlayStation 2 in the US.
  • 2005 - EA Sports releases the NBA Live 06 video game for the PlayStation 2, Xbox, and GameCube in the US.
  • 2006 - Namco Bandai releases The Fast and the Furious video game for the PlayStation 2, PlayStation Portable, and Xbox in the US.
  • 2006 - Square Enix releases the Valkyrie Profile 2: Silmeria video game for the PlayStation 2 in the USA.
  • 2006 - Ubisoft releases the Splinter Cell: Double Agent video game for the PlayStation 2 in the US.
  • 2008 - THQ releases the de Blob video game for the Nintendo Wii and Nintendo DS in the US.
  • 2010 - The Fox Broadcasting Company airs The Simpsons TV show in the US. A bus driver plays a handheld video game while driving, looking like the Nintendo Game Boy Advance.

Swedish history:

  • 1598 - The Treaty of Linköping is signed, ending the dispute with King Sigismund, who returns to Poland.

Canadian coin history:

  • 1980 - In Calgary, Alberta, the Fall CAND show is held, over three days.
  • 1991 - A Royal proclamation, effective December 1, specifies that the design of a 1992 25c nickel coin have "1867-1992" on obverse, and "Northwest Territories" on the reverse.
  • 1991 - A Royal proclamation, effective January 1, 1992, specifies that the design of a 1992 25c nickel coin have "1867-1992" on obverse, and "Newfoundland" on the reverse.

USA coin history:

  • 1890 - The Mint Act abolishes the $1 and $3 gold coins and 3-cent piece. Coinage designs must be used for a minimum of 25 years before they can be redesigned without special congressional approval.
  • 1978 - The Commission of Fine Arts approves Frank Gasparro's Susan B. Anthony dollar coin designs.
  • 1978 - The US Congress passes the Susan B. Anthony dollar legislation by vote of 368 to 38.
  • 1997 - Senator John Chafee introduces S. 1228 in the US Senate, seeking a 50-State circulating quarter dollar program.
  • 2007 - An 1804 gold $10 coin, one of four known in Proof, graded PR-65 ultra cameo by NGC, sells for $5 million in a private transaction.
  • 2008 - A fire at the Denver Mint forces evacuation of the facility for two hours, after sparks from workers grinding the top of an annealing furnace create a small fire and smoke in the ductwork. There are no injuries, and no damage is done to any coinage or coinage equipment.

Sports history:

  • 1906 - Pittsburgh Lefty Leifield no-hits Philadelphia Phillies, 8-0 in six-inning game.
  • 1926 - Shortest double header, New York Yankees lose 6-1 in 72 minutes and lose again 6-2 in 55 minutes to the Saint Louis Browns. New York Yankees had already clinched pennant.
  • 1947 - Happy Chandler announces Ford and Gillette to sponsor World Series.
  • 1948 - Boston Braves win first National League championship since 1914.
  • 1952 - New York Yankees clinch pennant #19.
  • 1958 - Columbia (US) beats Sceptre (England) in 18th America's Cup.
  • 1959 - San Francisco Giants' Sam Jones second no-hitter, beats Saint Louis Cardinals, 4-0.
  • 1961 - New York Yankees' Roger Maris hits home run number 60 off Jack Fisher, tying Babe Ruth's record.
  • 1962 - Maury Will is first to steal 100 bases in a season (goes on to 104).
  • 1968 - Saint Louis Cardinals' Bob Gibson's 13th shutout, ends with 1.12 ERA.
  • 1973 - Wilt Chamberlain signs with ABA San Diego Conquistadors.
  • 1975 - Philadelphia Phillies and New York Mets play a doubleheader that ends at 3:15 AM.
  • 1976 - Philadelphia Phillies clinch their first National League East Division title.
  • 1979 - 1984 summer Los Angeles Olympic coverage sold to ABC for US$225 million.
  • 1981 - Nolan Ryan sets a Major League Baseball record by throwing his fifth no-hitter.
  • 1981 - Houston Astros' Nolan Ryan's fifth no-hitter, beats Los Angeles Dodgers, 5-0.
  • 1983 - Ali Haji-Sheikh kicks New York Giants' record 56-yard field goal.
  • 1983 - Australia II wins America's Cup yacht race (first non-US winner).
  • 1983 - Saint Louis Cardinals' pitcher Bob Forsch second no-hitter beats Montreal Expos, 3-0.
  • 1984 - 5,251 turn out to see the Philadelphia Phillies play the New York Mets at Shea Stadium.
  • 1988 - Canada's Ben Johnson stripped of his Olympic 100m gold for failing drug test.
  • 1998 - The Adelaide Crows defeat the North Melbourne Kangaroos in the AFL Grand Final to become the first club to win back-to-back premierships since the VFL became the AFL in 1990.
  • 2021 - At T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada, USA, NHL pre-season game: San Jose Sharks beats Vegas Golden Knights by score 4-2.
  • 2021 - At Scotiabank Saddledrome in Calgary, Alberta, Canada, NHL pre-season game: Edmonton Oilers beats Calgary Flames by score 4-0.
  • 2021 - At Spokane Veterans Memorial Arena in Spokane, Washington, USA, NHL pre-season game: Seattle Kraken beats Vancouver Canucks by score 5-3. This is the first NHL game played by the new Seattle Kraken team.
  • 2021 - At Honda Center in Anaheim, California, USA, NHL pre-season game: Anaheim Ducks beats San Jose Sharks by score 6-3.
  • 2021 - At Canada Life Centre in Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada, NHL pre-season game: Ottawa Senators beats Winnipeg Jets by score 3-2.
  • 2021 - At Madison Square Garden in New York, New York, USA, NHL pre-season game: New York Islanders beats New York Rangers by score 4-0.
  • 2021 - At FLA Live Arena in Sunrise, Florida, USA, NHL pre-season game: Florida Panthers beats Nashville Predators by score 3-1.
  • 2021 - At Capital One Arena in Washington, D.C., USA, NHL pre-season game: Boston Bruins beats Washington Capitals by score 3-2.
  • 2021 - At FLA Live Arena in Sunrise, Florida, USA, NHL pre-season game: Florida Panthers beats Nashville Predators by score 5-4.
  • 2022 - At MetLife Stadium in East Rutherford, New Jersey, USA, National Football League regular season game: Dallas Cowboys beats New York Giants by score 23-16.

Space exploration history:

  • 1980 - Soyuz 38 returns to Earth.
  • 1983 - Cosmonauts Titov and Strekalov are saved from exploding Soyuz T-10.

Extreme weather history:

  • 1954 - Typhoon strikes Kakodate Bay, Japan, killing over 1,600.
  • 2009 - Typhoon Ketsana hits the Philippines, causing 246 deaths and nearly US$100 million in damage. More than 3,000 houses are either damaged or destroyed. Worst flooding in 40 years, 300,000 people are left homeless.

USA history:

  • 1777 - British troops occupy Philadelphia during the American Revolution.
  • 1789 - Thomas Jefferson is appointed first US Secretary of State; John Jay is appointed first chief justice; Samuel Osgood is appointed first Postmaster; Edmund J Randolph is appointed first Attorney General.
  • 1789 - US President George Washington appoints Sanuel Osgood as first Postmaster General of the US.
  • 1861 - US President Abraham Lincoln appoints William L. Hodge as interim Treasury Secretary during absence of Secretary Salmon P. Chase.
  • 1890 - US stops minting $1 and $3 gold coins and 3-cent piece.

  • 1984 - US President Ronald Reagan vetoes sanctions against South Africa.
  • 1986 - Antonin Scalia becomes a US Supreme Court Justice.
  • 1986 - William Rehnquist becomes Chief Justice of the US Supreme Court.
  • 1988 - New York City's Rockefeller Center is declared a national landmark.
  • 1990 - Motion Picture Association of America creates new NC-17 rating.
  • 1991 - Two-year experimental Biosphere 2 in Oracle, Arizona begins.
  • 2005 - U.S. Army Reservist Lynndie England is convicted by a military jury on six of seven counts in connection with the Abu Ghraib prisoner abuse scandal.

Other history:

  • 1687 - Parthenon destroyed in war between Turks and Venetians.
  • 2007 - First confirmed deaths resulting from the Myanmar military's crackdown on weeks long anti-government protests. Buddhist monks are arrested and Internet access is cut from the public.
