Personal computer history:

  • 1996 - Djibouti issues a 150 franc postage stamp for World Telecommunications Day, depicting a personal computer.
  • 2002 - The Fox Broadcasting Company airs The Fairly Oddparents TV show in the US. A personal computer is used to access the Internet; when it is too slow in downloading information, a character throws it out the window: system unit, monitor, and keyboard.
  • 2009 - The Fox Broadcasting Company airs The Simpsons TV show in the USA.
    • A character says "do you know where you can buy ink for an Amiga brand fax machine?".
    • Laptop and desktop computers appear.

Walt Disney Company history:

  • 1924 - Disney ships the Alice Comedy film Alice and the Three Bears to M.J. Winkler Productions.
  • 1947 - RKO Radio Pictures releases Disney's animated feature film Fun and Fancy Free to theaters. It includes the animated films Bongo, and Mickey and the Beanstalk (with Mickey Mouse, Donald Duck, and Goofy).
  • 1964 - The NBC TV network airs the Walt Disney's Wonderful World of Color show, featuring Nikki, Wild Dog of the North, part one.
  • 1967 - The first draft screenplay of Disney's animated version of Hansel and Gretel is completed.
  • 1970 - The NBC TV network airs The Wonderful World of Disney show, featuring The Boy Who Stole the Elephant, part two.
  • 1984 - The Show Biz Is show in the Magic Kingdom of Walt Disney World gives its last performance.
  • 1985 - Buena Vista releases the Walt Disney Pictures live-action feature film The Journey of Natty Gann to theaters.
  • 1991 - Disney releases the film Simply Mad About the Mouse on videocassette.
  • 1991 - Disney releases the Touchstone Pictures live-action feature film Deceived to theatres.
  • 1992 - The Disney Channel airs The Making of Sgt. Pepper, about The Beatles' album of the 1960s.
  • 1992 - The Fox TV network debuts the series Woops!.
  • 1993 - The Listen to the Land boat ride ceases operation in The Land pavilion in EPCOT Center.
  • 1993 - The Tomorrow's Harvest tour in The Land pavilion in EPCOT Center closes.
  • 2005 - The ABC TV network premieres the Commander-in-Chief TV show.
  • 2005 - Disney releases the film Lilo & Stitch 2: Stitch Has a Glitch on videocassette and DVD in Hungary.
  • 2007 - The Walt Disney Company announces it will cease operating its mobile phone service in the USA at the end of the year.
  • 2008 - All six nightclubs close in Pleasure Island at Walt Disney World. The areas are to be replaced by other shops and dining restaurants.
  • 2014 - The Studio Backlot Tour at Disney-MGM Studios at Walt Disney World closes.
  • 2015 - The ABC TV network premieres the Blood & Oil TV series.

Chevrolet Corvette history:

  • 1952 - General Motors first begins officially using the name Corvette for its new sports car.
  • 2003 - At the Downtown Miami Raceway in Miami, Florida, the Grand Prix Americas race is held, round eight of the American Le Mans Series. Finishing 4th in GTS class and 27th overall is the Corvette Racing #3 Corvette C5-R, driven by Ron Fellows and Johnny O'Connell. The #4 Corvette C5-R was badly damaged in pre-race warm-up.
  • 2020 - At the Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course in Lexington, Ohio, USA, the Acura Sports Car Challenge race is held, round 7 of the IMSA WeatherTech Sportscar Championship series.
    • Finishing 1st in GT Le Mans class and 8th overall is the Corvette Racing #3 Corvette C8.R driven by Jordan Taylor and Antonio Garcia.
    • Finishing 2nd in GT Le Mans class and 9th overall is the Corvette Racing #4 Corvette C8.R driven by Tommy Milner and Oliver Gavin.

World War II history:

  • 1938 - British Prime Minister Neville Chamberlain makes a national radio broadcast, announcing that Britain was ready to fight any power seeking to dominate the world by force, but essentially saying that Britain would not go to war over Czechoslovakian independence.
  • 1939 - (2010 hours) Warsaw, Poland, surrenders to German troops after a 21-day siege.
  • 1939 - Adolf Hitler announces to the commanders of the three military services that he intends to attack the West this year crossing Belgium and Holland to attack France and isolate Great Britain. Despite protests, Adolf Hitler orders that Plan Yellow should be mounted on November 12.
  • 1939 - The Government of Bulgaria outlaws membership in Nazi-like organizations.
  • 1939 - A German destroyer stops Swedish Johnson Line's motorship Kronprincessen Margareta just outside Swedish territorial waters, ordering the transfer of crew of eleven from the torpedoed British trawler Caldes.
  • 1939 - For the first time, German guns of the Westwall fire over the Maginot line on villages behind French fortifications.
  • 1939 - (1800 hours) A submarine torpedoes and sinks Soviet steamer Metallist in Narva Bay, off the coast of Estonia.
  • 1940 - In Berlin, Germany, Japanese premier Prince Fumimaro Konoye and Italian and German officials sign the Tripartite Pact defensive alliance. Each nationpledges mutual support in the event of attack by a power not presently involved in the European or Chinese-Japanese conflict. The intent is to keep the United States out of the war.
  • 1941 - The US launches the first "Liberty Ship", the SS Patrick Henry. This type of ship is built for single use, to transfer cargo to England.
  • 1941 - SS-Obergruppenfuhrer Reinhard Heydrich arrives in Prague, as new commander of Czechoslovakia.
  • 1942 - In London, England, the film In Which We Serve premieres at the Gaumont Haymarket theater. The film is based on the sinking of HMS Kelly off the west coast of Greece.
  • 1971 - Saint Pierre and Miquelon issues three postage stamps marking the 30th anniversary of rallying the Free French forces.
  • 1975 - France issues a postage stamp marking the 30th anniversary of the liberation of concentration camps.
  • 1990 - Marshall Islands issues a postage stamp marking the 50th anniversary of the signing of the Tripartite Pact.
  • 2004 - Guyana issues twenty postage stamps marking the 60th anniversary of D-Day.

Video game history:

  • 1992 - Enix releases the Dragon Quest V video game for the Super Famicom in Japan.
  • 1998 - The Fox Broadcasting Company airs The Simpsons TV show in the US. A videogame arcade includes various stand-up and sit-in machines, with some names visible: "Larry the Looter", "Touch of Death", "Pack Rat Returns", "Shark Bait", "Satans Funhouse", "Time Waster".
  • 2000 - Acclaim releases the Dave Mirra Freestyle BMX video game for the PlayStation in the US.
  • 2000 - Sony announces it has cut initial US shipments of the PlayStation 2 from 1 million to 500,000, due to shortages of components.
  • 2000 - Atlus releases the Ogre Battle 64 video game for the Nintendo 64 in the US.
  • 2005 - Midway releases The Suffering: Ties That Bind video game for the PlayStation 2 and Xbox in the US.
  • 2005 - EA Sports releases the FIFA Soccer 06 video game for the PlayStation 2, Xbox, and GameCube in the US.
  • 2005 - Midway releases the Midway Arcade Treasures 3 video game for the PlayStation 2, Xbox, and GameCube in the US. Games included: Badlands, Hydro Thunder, Super Off Road, S.T.U.N Runner, Off Road Thunder, Race Drivin'.
  • 2005 - Capcom releases the Capcom Classic Collection video game for the PlayStation 2 and Xbox in the US. Games included: Super Ghouls 'n Ghosts, 1942, 1943, Bionic Commando, Commando, Final Fight, Forgotten Realms, Ghosts 'n Goblins, Ghouls 'n Ghosts, Gun.Smoke, Legendary Wings, Mercs, Section Z, Street Fighter II.
  • 2009 - Nintendo drops the price of the Nintendo Wii system in the US by $50 to US$199.99.
  • 2011 - Sony Computer Entertainment releases The Ico & Shadow of the Colossus Collection for the PlayStation 3 in the US.
  • 2011 - EA Sports releases the FIFA 12 video game for the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 in the US.
  • 2011 - Konami releases the Pro Evolution Soccer 2012 video game for the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 in the US.
  • 2011 - Capcom releases the Resident Evil Code: Veronica X video game for the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 in the US.

Swedish history:

  • 1939 - A German destroyer stops Swedish Johnson Line's motorship Kronprincessen Margareta just outside Swedish territorial waters, ordering the transfer of crew of eleven from the torpedoed British trawler Caldes.
  • 1977 - In New York City, New York, USA, Canada and Sweden sign an agreement concerning uses of nuclear material, equipment, facilities, and information transferred between the countries.
  • 1994 - (near midnight) In a storm on the Baltic Sea, the bow door of the ferry Estonia is torn off and the ship sinks. 137 survive, 852 die. The death of 551 Swedes is the largest single loss of Swedish life in modern history.
  • 1996 - In Pretoria, South Africa, the Truth and Reconciliation panel holds hearings before the Supreme Court. Secret Service Colonel Eugene de Kock, former head of Operation Long Reach, testifies that his office planned the Olof Palme killing, and that Craig Williamson coordinated the assassination.

Canadian coin history:

  • 1980 - Coin auction highlights of the CAND show:
    • 5 cents 1921: $1900;
    • 25 cents 1875 H AU: $2400;
    • 50 cents 1888 Uncirculated: $3000;
    • 50 cents 1911 BU: $3000;
    • 50 cents 1947 ML CR7 VF/EF: $2400.

Sports history:

  • 1881 - Chicago Cubs beat Troy Trojans 10-8 before record small "crowd" of 12.
  • 1905 - Boston Red Sox' pitcher Bill Dinneen no-hits Chicago White Sox, 2-0.
  • 1919 - Pitcher Bob Shawkey sets New York Yankees' record with 15 strike-outs.
  • 1921 - New York Yankees beat Cleveland Indians 21-7 in Polo Grounds stadium.
  • 1930 - Bobby Jones completes the Grand Slam of Golf.
  • 1930 - Chicago White Sox' first baseman Bud Clancy doesn't handle the ball at all in a 9-inning game versus Saint Louis Browns.
  • 1931 - Lou Gehrig completes his 6th straight Major League Baseball season, playing in every game.
  • 1942 - New York Giants beat Washington Redskins 14-7 without making a first down.
  • 1942 - Saint Louis Cardinals win National League pennant on last day of the season.
  • 1950 - Heavyweight champion Ezzard Charles defeats Joe Louis.
  • 1953 - Bert Bechichar, Baltimore Colts, kicks a 56-yard field goal.
  • 1964 - Philadelphia Phillies seventh straight loss sends them into second place.
  • 1967 - Philadelphia Phillies' Jim Bunning ties National League record of five 1-0 losses in a year.
  • 1970 - Ken Boswell sets second baseman record of 85 games without an error.
  • 1972 - First game at Nassau Coliseum, New York Rangers beat New York Islanders 6-4 (exhibition).
  • 1973 - California Angels' pitcher Nolan Ryan establishes a major league record striking out 383 batters in a season.
  • 1977 - Philadelphia Phillies clinch second straight National League East Division title.
  • 1991 - First scheduled NHL exhibition game in Saint Petersburg, Florida, is cancelled due to poor ice conditions (New York Islanders versus Boston Bruins).
  • 1997 - The Adelaide Crows win the AFL Premiership for the first time in their 7th season, beating Saint Kilda who have only ever won one premiership in their 100 year history.
  • 1998 - In the season finale, Mark McGwire ends the historic Major League Baseball season hitting his 69th and 70th home runs in the Saint Louis Cardinals' 6-3 win over the Montreal Expos.
  • 2000 - The United States Olympic team beats the favored Cuban team to win the country's first gold medal in baseball.
  • 2009 - In Singapore, round 14 of the FIA Formula 1 World Championship is won by Lewis Hamilton.
  • 2020 - At the Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course in Lexington, Ohio, USA, the Acura Sports Car Challenge race is held, round 7 of the IMSA WeatherTech Sportscar Championship series.
    • Finishing 1st in DPi class and 1st overall is the ACURA TEAM PENSKE #7 Acura DPi driven by Helio Castroneves and Ricky Taylor.

  • 2021 - At Gila River Arena in Glendale, Arizona, USA, NHL pre-season game: Arizona Coyotes beats Los Angeles Kings by score 2-1.
  • 2021 - At Enterprise Center in Saint Louis, Missouri, USA, NHL pre-season game: Saint Louis Blues beats Dallas Stars by score 2-1.
  • 2021 - At Bell Centre in Montreal, Quebec, Canada, NHL pre-season game: Montreal Canadiens beats Toronto Maple Leafs by score 5-2.
  • 2021 - At PPG Paints Arena in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, USA, NHL pre-season game: Columbus Blue Jackets beats Pittsburgh Penguins by score 3-0.

Space exploration history:
