  • A complete fiberglass model of the next generation Corvette is completed. [79.49]
  • American Custom Industries begins production on Duntov Turbo Corvettes. They start with new 1980 model Corvettes, modifying them with wide aerodynamic bodies, wide tires, new interior, and a range of turbocharging performance modifications. Phase I, I, and III models are produced, ranging from US$26,000 to US$65,000. A 4.0-psi boost turbocharger adds about 70-hp to the L48 engine. (A total of 31-86 are built and sold over three years.)
