MARLA WILSON - The Artist
As a child, Marla Wilson spent many hours wandering the hills behind her Alberta home with her dog, Mickey, for the sheer joy and wonderment of it. These spiritually inspiring times of her youth gave impetus to her desire to develop her artisitic talents and today one sees the result of her hard work in her exquisitely rendered landscape and wildlife paintings. Marla's work is done with dedicated attention to authenticity which has come about through intense study of animal anatomey, plant life and land forms.
Her search for a new image to paint begins with a field trip to the country in her van. She usually stays two or more days in a location taking pictures for the overall composition and sketching in pencil the important details. From here she refers to her own wide collectin of books and photographs, the library and game farms to ensure form, texture and colour are accurate. Returning to the location each weekend to double check details is not unusual.
Marla ha become quite proficient in all painting mediums but finds acrylics best suits what she wishes to portray. She begins a painting with wider brushes and gradually works up layers of paint to fine-haired ones. She usually works on one image at a time and it will take a month of long hours to complete it. Marla is currently seeking new inspiation in the forest depths and coastal regions of Vancouver Island.
