Review: Ming's has a large selection of Cantonese and Szechuan dishes, including combination platters. The atmosphere is elegant and the service is first-rate. Ming's is the sort of place where you really feel like you've been out for dinner. When you walk in, you are greeted by a host who checks your coats and takes you to your table. Your teapot is always full and the tea always hot. Side plates are warmed before they are brought to you. After the meal, hot towels are provided to wipe your hands. A beautifully carved entrance arch and two huge fishtanks add to the exotic but comfortable atmosphere. The restaurant is usually quite full, but it seldom seems rushed or crowded.
As for the food, the vegetarian selection is pretty good, particularly the salt and pepper tofu. Meat-eaters enjoy the various chicken and pork dishes, as well as the "King's Plate" and other very generous combination platters. If picky kids are in your party, french fries and a few other western dishes are available if you ask.
Although Ming's is slightly more expensive than many chinese restaurants, the portions are large and the service seems worth the price. Ming's is a great place to take out-of-town visitors. Be warned: you will need a reservation...Ming's is a very popular place.
