  • Charles "Chub" Feeney replaces Warren Giles as president of American baseball's National League. Giles held the position for 18 years, and Feeney will hold it for the next 16. [1] [56]

  • Kansas City Chiefs beat Oakland Raiders 17-7 in AFC championship game. [1]
  • Minnesota Vikings beat Cleveland Browns 27-7 in NFC championship game. [1]

  • Super Bowl IV: Kansas City Chiefs beat Minnesota Vikings, 23-7 in New Orleans; Most Valuable Player: Len Dawson, Quarterback. [1]
