Recently, Western Subsea completed a benthic survey at the mouth of the Skeena river (northern British Columbia). The objective was to determine the impact of seine nets on the river bottom. This survey, using sidescan sonar and stereo ROV, was complicated due to the fast moving river water (4 knots). Western Subsea was able to obtain video footage of the bottom by determining the extent of the salt water wedge under the overlaying occluded river water.
