FISH STOCK ASSESSMENT

Fish stocks in many areas of the world are being rapidly depleted due to over fishing and management decisions based on a lack of baseline data.

Western Subsea has developed efficient, cost effective means with which to obtain benthic data to enhance knowledge of local coastal habitats. Graphics show a recent habitat survey in Goletas channel (north coast of Vancouver Island) using sidescan sonar and other remote sensing tools.

Current investigations are focused on the acquisition of baseline survey data for commercially under-utilized species such as geoduck, sea urchins, and Venus clams.
